i'm here for a certain amount of renaming of things for greater defamiliarization but i gotta say "breasthalter" really loses me

#like i admit i'm glad enough to avoid 'bra' or variations thereupon—it doesn't feel very fantastical— #but i think i'd have preferred an alternative like 'breastband' which has the benefit of (a) some familiarity #and (b) not characterizing the breasts as equines in need of restraint #(like. i know a halter can be a kind of top. but we've entered the realm of weird neologism here‚ such that in casting about for meaning... #...one potentially hits upon other more jarring definitions of the word first) #(in any case i think something without this bizarre dual sense to it would have served better!) #language #bookblogging
