3. Favorite memes?
Damn this is a tough one. I'll always have a soft spot for The Ancient Ones, like old lolcats and YouTube poops. I love vine references, especially "Road work ahead", "So no head?", "Haha I do that!", "hey I'm lesbian", etc. Be Gay Do Crime, *blank* said *blank* rights, and other such queer memes are always fantastic. Literally anything the Mcelroy family, BDG, the Game Grumps, Achievement Hunter, or the Snapcube team have ever said are memeable and I adore with every fiber of my being. And then there are ones that are just words that have worked their way into my daily vernacular, like oh, worm or mood.
It's a lot, bro.
15. Favorite fictional characters?
Oh geez I have a lot of those too! There's pretty much the whole cast of Mob Psycho 100 (except resident Garbageboy Stinkman, Bad Dad McShitty Eyebrows whose name I shall not speak). There's the Elric Bros, Winry, Riza, Maes, Roy, the Armstrong siblings, and ESPECIALLY Ling and Paninya from Fullmetal Alchemist. Almost every Steven Universe character is delightful (except Ronaldo holy shit). The girls in Team RWBY, Qrow (especially now that he isn't voiced by a gross asshole anymore), Nora, Ilia and Maria from RWBY (I haven't watched season 7 yet so I don't know any new characters, sorry!) are excellent. Literally every Undertale character is an easy favorite. Guzma and Lillie from Pokémon Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are my faves in any Pokémon game. Zim and Gaz from Invader Zim have been faves since I was a kid. Same goes for Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg from the old Teen Titans, Candace and Doofinsmirtz from Phineas and Ferb, and Annabeth and Grover from the Percy Jackson books.
I know there's a ton more but my shit brain can't think rn oops.
22. A professional accomplishment that you're proud of?
I'm still in college and my health has been too unreliable for me to have an actual job yet so I don't really have any professional experiences.
35. A random memory you remember with strange clarity?
If this is for any time in my life, then a nightmare I had when I was six after watching Jame and the Giant Peach for the first time is still incredibly clear to me. I was being chased through my house (which was on fire for some reason???) by the giant peach. Literally just a fucking huge peach rolling through my house and crushing everything beneath it. I woke up just as it had me backed against a wall and was about to crush me. Idk why but I woke up terrified and couldn't watch that movie again for years! Maybe that's why I still hate peaches...
Anyway, if it's just the past decade, there was one time like seven years ago where my best friend at the time was over at my house and we were in the middle of a conversation when she suddenly interrupted herself to point at the wheels of the computer chair I was sitting in and just stated "shrimp in the wheel". When I asked what she just repeated herself with the exact same tone and inflection. She did it again until I got up and looked and sure enough, a shrimp from when my family had had Chinese take out a few days previously was stuck in the wheel and somehow no one, not even the dogs, had noticed it until then.
40. An important personal revelation?
I was 11 when this decade began, so pretty much every personal revelation I've ever had has been this decade. Probably my most important and most personal was my gradual realization that I'm a lesbian, as well as the realization that, despite my incredibly homophobic family and upbringing, that I was "wrong" to be not straight. It was over the course of several years, and came with a lot of strife, but I'm happy and proud of it now, and have tons of LGBTQA+ friends who I love and who love me back!
44. An observation about this decade you haven't heard anyone else make yet?
I'm not gonna lie; I'm not especially original and don't really have any Hot Takes™ that probably hasn't already been made. I will say that it feels like everything I've heard that's come out this decade that is categorized as rock music doesn't really sound like rock? Like, especially Top 40 stuff? It mostly sounds like pop. Like there are rock bands I love that have been around since the 2000s or 90s that are still releasing music, or have returned from long hiatuses this decade (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Bring Me The Horizon, Halestorm, and A Day to Remember to name a few) but they seem like outliers, and, to my knowledge, haven't really topped charts in a while. Other older bands I really adore seem to have shifted more into a pop sound this decade (like Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and Paramore) which is fine, I still love their new music just as much as their older stuff, and I'm certainly not saying pop is an inferior genre! It just seems like rock isn't really as big of a genre as it had been in previous years. I mean, for fucks sake, Imagine Dragons topped rock charts this decade! Idk maybe I'm just getting older and, at age 21 am already becoming crotchety and all "kids these days and their music!" but I haven't heard any songs that sound at all like rock chart in the past few years. There are some gems like PVRIS and Neck Deep that formed this decade that still sound like rock and that I really like, but they're still relatively obscure. If anyone knows any other newish rock bands let me know!
Thank you so much, and happy new year!
