thanks for asking!! from this
B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?
oh god yeah, a huge portion of what I write is direct projection and tbh that’s very cool of me. A game we deserve to play out loud is probably the most direct example; that premise is pulled pretty much directly from my life circa sophomore year of high school lmao
and the very first thing I ever said about what eventually became the don’t fall in love with a musician series was:
I don't know if this is a relatable experience at all but, esp before I started dating my gf, when I had friends who habitually dated shitty people I kept wanting to date them myself as a definitely not healthy effort to protect them and now that I'm saying this it feels like a weird thing to follow with "haha sounds like something a character I like would do" but my point was it has Bobby energy somehow
so. make of that what you will /lh
G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
Oh ALL over the place. Usually I write down (on paper bc it’s easier for my brain) a bulleted list of all the points I want to make sure to hit, and then all the little tiny snippets that pop into my head while I’m feeling Inspired about it, and then I just kinda . . . bounce around and write whatever comes easily for a while, until I have most of a fic and then I go back to the beginning and fill in the gaps where I got stuck/skipped over stuff.
R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?
okay okay so Leah Thomas is the author of some of my favorite books ever (everybody go read everything she’s published, especially Because You’ll Never Meet Me) and I think her work has definitely influenced my own--she does extremely well with creating unique character voices and hard-hitting emotional moments and just absolutely gorgeous prose and I’d love to claim I come close to replicating it.
and then Lauren Shippen, particularly with The Bright Sessions, had a huge impact on how I think about and write relationships (of every kind, but especially romantic ones) and I’m really grateful for that.
and this has less to do with general writing style or anything like that, but with JATP stuff specifically, the way I write Bobby is very very heavily influenced by @sunsetcurvecuddles, both via reading her fics and via just talking to her about all of my ideas all the time (also G from what I’ve seen you’ve been tagged in people’s answers for this game for various reasons like 12 times already so I’m sorry but only a little bit gnajhdsj)
thanks again for the ask, you’re great and I hope your day’s going well
