For one of my finals this semester I’m going to (try) following an 1867 guidebook on making hair jewelry :)

Also probably gonna write up an essay on Victorian mourning art in America (tho not all hair jewelry is an expression of mourning!), I’m excited to dive in

#it’s gonna be hard like the guide casually said something like separate 16 piece of 80 (?) strands each like SIR #that’s so many strands of hair to count out!! also I imagine modern hair has a different texture given we usually wash our hair much more #than white Victorians did. tho who knows that calls for like a very specialized history book #I’m going to tie it back to my family tree looking at my great great great (possibly third great) grandparents since they line up with the #1860s when this guidebook came out.
