Self-indulgent RPG nonsense: The thing that Lokara (the new security chief/ship enforcer/Avarel’s unofficial personal bodyguard) bonded with her over, when she slid onto the bench across from the pretty Ferasan and boldly struck up a conversation.
Namely, the battle in the Brea system, in which Hakeev is killed.
Specifically, because this is Ael’s universe and I’m just living in it, Lokara gives a wolfish grin and goes “Then you fought alongside the Romulan Eagle! I was in the First City the day the crew of Shikaen rallied the fleet. I only wish I had been on a ship to respond! That was an honorable battle.”
Listen. When a Romulan warbird slams into orbit from high warp and a Gorn, a Klingon scientist and a handful of Romulans storm into the High Council and demand to know where the hell their so-called honor is if they abandon a faithful vassal to captivity and torment, it tends to make waves.
