Reflection
As a team, we learned how impactful many different leaders can be. Upon researching impactful leaders for Apple, we learned about Steve Jobs, Tim Cook, and Angela Ahrendts. Based on the research conducted we realized that every manager has their own way or style of leading. Steve Jobs was a perfectionist who had a passion for achieving excellence. Steve Jobs preferred to lead employees who saw the same vision and had the same values as him. In my perspective Steve Jobs when his employees were skilled, engaged, and aligned with his organization's mission then he felt he could achieve the levels of excellence he sought after. Tim Cook was a leader who followed an employee-centered leadership. Tim Cook preferred to have a collaborative work environment and encouraged employees to be creative and take credit for the work they do. He is a humble leader and shares the spotlight with his employees to make them feel valued. His decisions for Apple are based on his ethical awareness and he believes that a collaborative respective and ethically driven leadership will lead to an organization's success. Angela Ahrendts leadership was very similar to Tim Cook’s. She is a leader who exhibits consideration behavior for her employees. She wanted her employees to feel like they had a sense of purpose in the organization as well as Apple's consumers. She had effective communication, empathy, and a clear vision for Apple. She followed a more transformational leadership and believed that “the more technologically advanced our society became the more we need to go back to the basic fundamentals of human communication.” She used this belief to transform Apple into a more collaborative space with employees and consumers by creating community hubs where employees and consumers can interact to have a positive Apple experience. What can be learned from Angela’s leadership is to always instill a sense of purpose in your employees and consumers to drive organizational transformation and success. We also learned many interesting facts about Apple. When first researching Apple, as a team we discovered that the only reason the company was named after apples was because Steve Jobs liked them. Another fascinating piece of information we learned was that Apple's touchscreen phones were not available until approximately 2007 and were the first ever smartphones to allow consumers to listen to music, provide internet communication, and a phone all at the same time. We also were fascinated by the success Apple established financially by being the first company ever to be valued at $1 trillion. Overall, we learned that an organization's success comes from a balance between the organization's mission and the organization as a whole. Effective leaders will have effective staff to then create effective services for consumers. Apple is a great company that is continuously growing due to the success in cohesiveness of their organization's mission, leaders, employees, and services.

Brands under attack – how did Burberry rebuild its brand image?
#2023MITSloanBrandingSB
Burberry's unique brand positioning can be traced back to its rich history and a series of strategic decisions made by the company over time.
Founded in 1856 as a British luxury fashion brand, Burberry specialized in outerwear and accessories. The company's signature check pattern was introduced in the 1920s and became a defining feature of the brand.
However, in the 1990s and early 2000s, Burberry experienced a decline in its brand image, becoming associated with the so-called "chav" culture in the UK, characterized by cheap and tacky fashion. This change in the brand reputation was attributed to lower-priced products, the proliferation of counterfeit goods, and the adoption of celebrities identified with “chav” culture.
Tumblr media
To address this, Burberry underwent a rebranding effort in the early 2000s. Under the leadership of CEO Rose Marie Bravo from 1997 to 2005, the company repositioned itself as a luxury fashion brand. Bravo focused on improving product quality, revamping distribution channels, and introducing new lines of clothing and accessories to appeal to a wider audience. One of her major accomplishments was the introduction of the Burberry “Prorsum” line, which showcased high-end runway collections and helped to elevate the brand's image
Tumblr media
While Bravo's efforts were successful in revitalizing Burberry's brand image and increasing revenue, it was under the leadership of Angela Ahrendts from 2006 that the brand truly became a global luxury icon. Ahrendts focused on expanding Burberry's digital presence, making the brand more accessible to consumers around the world, and emphasizing the brand's British heritage. She modernized its design aesthetic by collaborating with young British designers and introducing new product categories such as beauty and eyewear.
Under Ahrendts and Bailey's leadership, Burberry repositioned itself as a modern luxury brand with a focus on digital innovation and social media marketing. The company expanded into new markets, such as China, and invested in flagship stores and events, such as London Fashion Week.
Burberry's rebranding efforts were successful in reestablishing the brand as a global luxury icon, with a strong emphasis on its British heritage and distinctive design elements such as the check pattern. By building on its rich history while also adapting to changing consumer tastes and trends, Burberry was able to maintain its unique brand positioning.
Today, under the leadership of CEO Jonathan Akeroyd, who took the reins in November 2022, Burberry has unveiled an ambitious plan to double revenues to £5 billion in the long term. Akeroyd's focus is on revenue growth and acceleration by broadening Burberry’s brand appeal and emphasizing its Britishness. He plans to grow customer lifetime value and strengthen distribution across all channels and regions. The future looks promising for Burberry, and we'll have to wait and see how the company executes its new strategy.

A 20-Year Retrospective: Burberry
By the late 1990s, Burberry's iconic check pattern had become overused and overexposed, leading to brand dilution and the weakening of their 'luxury' status. At the same time, Burberry was suffering from a decline in revenue and plateaued growth. The case covers some of the strategies implemented by the CEO at the time, Marie Bravo, in attempting revitalize and transform the brand. This was nearly 20 years ago. So, what ended up happening, and what can we learn from Burberry's evolution?
The most important aspect is just how important an attitude of adaptability and constant reinvention can be. Even an iconic brand like Burberry can risk brand dilution and loss of relevance if it remains stagnant. This is particularly the case in fast-moving, ever-evolving markets, such as the fashion industry—especially the luxury segment—in the face of changing consumer preferences, industry trends, and the emergence of strong competitors.
Reinvention can be tough, however, when one of your key selling points is your distinctively British heritage. Burberry's challenge, then, was to somehow maintain its brand's identity while also incorporating modernity and contemporary design. With the benefit of hindsight, I'd say Burberry was ultimately successful in this respect: the onboarding of a new design team with Christopher Bailey as creative director (who went on to become Chief Creative Officer a few years later) was a pivotal moment in revitalizing the brand's collection, introducing new product lines, and ultimately creating an updated, compelling brand narrative.
Burberry's embracement of Digital also stands out. It began with Bravo's tenure, and continued to evolve under subsequent leaders (as those who took 15.900 Competitive Strategy will be keenly familiar with). A targeted focus on digital marketing, e-commerce, and new technologies (e.g. carefully curated Augmented Reality experiences in select flagship stores) played a significant role in connecting Burberry to younger, increasingly tech-savvy consumers.
To me, Bravo set a clear direction for a struggling brand. Since then, she was succeeded by Angela Ahrendts, Cristopher Bailey, Marco Gobbetti, and Jonathan Akeroyd. Riccardo Tisci and Daniel Lee have both been CCO's since Bailey's time. That's a lot of leadership changes in 20 years. Establishing and selling a compelling/clear vision from the get-go, then, was key to surviving these leadership changes. This ultimately underscores the need for long-term thinking, strategic planning, and—possibly toughest of all—consistency in execution, which relies on your successors believing in your vision in the first place.

Best practices for Managing a company like LinkedIn Page
- Angela Ahrendts (Senior Vice President, Apple)
Quick Summary: Managing the team efficiently is one of the challenging tasks for the organization. Managing the Employee does not only demands an appropriate work procedure but also requires rituals to incorporate proficient team management in it.
Linkedin is a global platform that everyone is aware of. As we all know that it comprises communication, lead generation, reporting, and analytics, improves your business profile, and most importantly cost-effective networking. Here we will discuss how one can manage the organization efficiently like a Linkedin page.
To run a successful business with influential management one needs to understand the operational areas of business like accounting, finance, management, marketing, and production.
Tumblr media
As a Team Leader, one needs to develop a positive working affinity with them, instruct them properly, and motivate them to be productive.
Running a Successful organization mandates business skills, Negotiation Skills, and Management. Managing the employee is an unmanageable task, but to achieve efficiency and profitably, everyone must be aligned towards the common vision.
Linkedin is one of the most popular platforms that every professional is aware of. If we closely observe the work process or the feature of Linkedin we can understand that managing the organization is similar to managing a Likined page.
Here we will discuss the resemblances of it and see how closely both coincided.
Tumblr media
If you have the right engaging content then definitely LinkedIn ranks you on google. Similarly, if the organization has effective team management, then it is appreciated praised, and admired by its competitors, clients, and customers. Thus effective team management is very much required in the organization.
Tumblr media
This indirectly creates a positive space for networking and brings new connections. Many platforms charge a good amount for listing the organization whereas LinkedIn facilitates this for free. Similarly when the organization has good team management than new employees always look forwards to joining the organization. This saves the cost of deploying the hiring and outsourcing agencies.
Tumblr media
On LinkedIn partners and customers can provide testimonials for your activities. Similarly, good team management builds trust among the competitors and referrals.
Tumblr media

Angela Ahrendts, Former Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores at Apple
Tumblr media
As Apple sought to redefine the retail experience and recreate its approach to customer engagement, Angela Ahrendts emerged as a pivotal leader in 2013. As the Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores at Apple, Angela Ahrendts brought a fresh perspective and innovative strategies to redefine the company’s retail division. She brought a wealth of experience from her previous role as CEO of Burberry, infusing Apple’s retail strategy with a keen focus on blending technology with exceptional customer service. One of Angela’s most impactful changes was the creation of Today at Apple which was created to showcase the array of creative things you can do with your Apple Devices. Today at Apple is a bridge between the real world and the retail space that provides free classes both in and out of Apple Stores to its consumers. (Simon, 2019) Angela was instrumental in her decisions to reimage Apple’s retail stores as community hubs and focal points. Angela Ahrendts believes that “The more technologically advanced our society becomes, the more we need to go back to the basic fundamentals of human communication.” (Reingold, 2015) This belief is directly related to Angela Ahrendt's leadership style. Angela Ahrendt's leadership could be described as more of a transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is the set of abilities that allows the leader to recognize the need for change, to create a vision to guide that change and to execute the change effectively. (Griffin, 2023, Ch. 12-2a) Angela emphasizes on creating a people-first culture believing that the success of a brand is directly tied to the happiness and well-being of its employees. Angela motivates her employees by fostering an inclusive and innovative work culture, promoting personal development, creativity, and commitment to exceptional customer experiences. She portrays traits such as effective communication and vision which has led to her employees embracing her leadership style. (Singh, 2023) Angela just like Tim Cook is a leader who also exhibits consideration behavior by being a leader who is concerned with her employees' feelings and respects their ideas. (Griffin, 2023, Ch. 11-2b) Apple employees immediately accepted her leadership style and raved about her ability to convey warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in her interactions with them. As big as Angela’s career has become, it seems she’s never forgotten to follow her instincts and stick by her values. Based on Angela Ahrendt's leadership impact on Apple and its employees leaders can learn to instill a sense of purpose, and collaboration in their organization’s teams. Possessing empathetic, innovative, and inclusive leadership can essentially drive organizational transformation.

By consciously planning them into your home’s overall design it can elevate your overall home decor by leaps and bounds. In the Apple book of interior design, open spaces have just as much furnishing value as a table or a chair. After all, space is luxury and Apple knows that well. Open SpacesĪ hallmark feature of Apple Flagship Stores including our local one is its sheer spaciousness. In terms of functionality, Ivan from Ideal Design recommends modular wardrobes, “if you expect to have a lot more clothes you can always add an extra compartment, like a drawer.” 2. For modular sofas, be inspired by Werner Aisslinger’s Bikini Island and make your very own from Ikea. In your home, you can also make use of modular furnitures like modular shelves, kitchens and sofas. These little chairs can easily be shuffled about, placed side by side, or even stacked on top of one another, which make them a kind of modular furniture. On the second floor of the Apple Store where the much hyped about Today At Apple program is held, you will find a vast screen flanked by two majestic rows of greens with a spread of cute little light brown squares of chairs in between. We have come up with 5 key elements of the Apple Store design that you can incorporate into your homes. “We view our stores as a modern-day town square, where visitors come to shop, be inspired, learn or connect with others in their community.”Ī huge part of creating that effect comes down to deliberate designing of the store interior. It is all about the experience.Īs Apple’s senior vice president of Retail Angela Ahrendts shared, It is a beautiful sanctuary that celebrates the love for all things Apple.
