Dancehall
After attending a night out with some friends at Club Caribbean. I actually got to witness how Islanders interact with one and another, as well as, learn a few moves. The music was very upbeat and vibrational. From the lyrics to the beat of each song, dancehall makes one want to get up and dance. No one was hugging a wall. I never witness a club full of people actually dancing the entire time. The song posted below is [PRESS PLAY!!!]  by Konshens- Bruk off yuh back, stood out the most to me, due to the catchy beat and chorus. The song is stating “Bruk off yuh back” in laminas terms to break off your back. The song is encouraging women to embrace their bodies and “shake what ya mama gave you!” Women of Western cultures are told that showing too much skin is disrespecting yourself; in Caribbean culture women believe that embarrassing their bodies is a way of showing self love. Women feel like there should be no shame in what God created. In the post below a few visionals of Carnival were provided to show the attire and a slight view of the festival. Carnival is a time of showing pride, as well as, celebrating life.
