Mastering Marketing

I was blind and now I can see is the only way to describe what I feel like at the end of this course. I was so blinded to marketing tools, techniques, and even terminology. My original goals for this course were to have a clear understanding of branding and how it affects business, to become better/stronger at building relationships; especially customer relations. Finally, to learn marketing strategies, promotional tools, and positioning. When I tell you, it was easier said than done.

In the very first week the course, I had computer trouble and had to turn my assignment in late. Then after I finally get the assignment in. Turns out I did it incorrectly. What a way to start a new course! After over-coming a horrible start, I slowly began to understand the assignments. Marketing is so much more than just posting a few flyers. It’s knowing who exactly you want to reach. Is your business for men or women? What age group? What is the financial standing?

After knowing who you want to reach. You have to decide how to reach them? What tools will you use? How will you track if your strategy is working? I have realized, even though this can seem a little taxing it is one of the most important parts of business. Knowing your customer and how to reach them is what set your business apart from all the rest. You aren’t looking for all people to buy into your company because that will never happen. However, you can control the target market you reach out to. Having clear cut goals is key. I understand now that marketing is not random. It’s not a wish or hope that someone sees your ad and come in. It is a systematic and deliberate plan of action.

I still have to learn how to work with groups of people. My personal life shows me that constantly. However, I am determined not to give up. To continue to step outside of my comfort zone as I prepare for the next phase of my life.
