i'm not thrilled with wyll's quest in full release (wishing i had played EA just to see the full scope of differences) (this also comes with the caveat that i have only finished 1 playthrough and my character Hated him, so i know there's wyll quest stuff i haven't seen) and i have been entertaining myself with non-tadpole wyll ideas. because he is such a cool character and giving him a tadpole just seems to detract from his storyline (esp. when he's like. not even really concerned about it??? my guy got brainwormed and said "hold on i gotta teach these kids how to swordfight" which is amazing for the character and does nothing for the plot) (again this all comes with the caveat that I LOVE WYLL and my thoughts on his storyline may change once i finish my next playthrough, where he is a party main)
anyway. wyll ideas. wydeas
he was tracking karlach as normal it's just that neither of them got tadpoled and their fighting on the ship is partially the reason the nautiloid crashed
what if he showed up later in the story? what if he only showed up qfter you found karlach? what if mizora sought a warlock out specifically to hunt karlach after she escaped, and wyll was just the guy she chose?
what if he had been hunting escaped prisoners of zariel for the entire time he has been pacted. what if he was avernus' personal pest control. what if he realized after speaking to karlach that every monster he thought he'd slain was a victim of the archdevil. or not even all of them, just some of them, just karlach. that doubt growing in his mind/heart of "am i a good person? can i truly do good things if my power comes from a bad place?" is so juicy to me
and i wish so dearly there had been REAL CONFLICT for the player to navigate between wyll and karlach. i wish you had to persuade/intimidate him to not hurt her. i wish you would enter combat with him if you immediately sided with her (and if you knock him out he'd show up a couple days later and apologize like "mizora told me everything")
wyll turning hostile if you kill gandrel. again, gives more inter-party conflict that you as the player must try to navigate through (delicious, i wanted 20 more cutscenes about my companions trying to kill each other)
while we're at it, imagine if wyll was hunting astarion and not gandrel. something something "i'm used to keeping monsters out of the gate not taking them back to it" something something "if you think i'm the monster boy have i got news about your employer" something something enemies to reluctant comrades to ride or die friends. to lovers, perhaps
i JUST. i REALLY LOVE WYLL and he has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and i WANT TO SEE HIM BE BITTER AND STRUGGLE AND FIGHT AND GROW AND LEARN WITH THE OTHER COMPANIONS
