Two things I've noticed about the Count in the last two entries I didn't realise before-

He would not move across the threshold of his own house to touch Jonathan until after John had said that he would enter willingly. This is a reversal - or continuation - of the 'vampire can't enter your house unless you let them' trope. Who knows what would have happened if John had tried to enter without saying anything.

His insistence on learning unaccented English and its customs, that he might blend in seamlessly. So he couldn't be picked out of a crowd. So he wouldn't stand out. So a shadowy encounter might not be traced back to him.

The transylvania locals are too wary; to clever. They know what he is and how to survive. #The British don't have that protection. In fact they're actively dismissive of the supernatural with the recent boom in industry and wealth #News has reached even his distant corner of the world. They're ripe for the taking.
