It may seem like a really minor nitpick but one of the things I really loved about Ninja Gaiden 1 was that it felt like you were organically making your way through the city, unlocking new areas once you find certain key items or as old areas get destroyed. Even before that, you see how Ryu got into the city via the airship level.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Ryu just goes all over the globe. For example the first level is in Tokyo, 2nd level is in Hayabusa Village. 3rd level is New York. Ryu is just in these places at the start of the levels. The rest of the game is pretty much that same formula with Ryu just suddenly appearing wherever the bad guys happen to attack like some kinda Spider-Man cartoon.

Another even more egregious example is in the first level you are suppose to make it to the top some twin skyscraper. When you reach the base of the building, you get a cutscene of Ryu suddenly on the tippy top of the wrong tower and he does like a ninja thing and lands like half way up the correct building.

Idk it’s just kinda shitty and disjointed compared to the first game where once you reach Tairon City the story has pretty much zero time skips and with only one exception (the train cutscene in the military base) you always feel like you are in control of Ryu’s journey.
