#I think about how similar 2003 mikey and rise leo are a lot they’re silly
Text
I think the turtles’s personalities in regards to 2003 vs ROTTMNT is really interesting just because of how different yet similar they are
Rise Leo and 2003 Mike are annoying stuck up battle nexus champions who need a little whack over the head every once and a while(I love bullying these little shits but I do also genuinely love them) and are also SUPER queercoded
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then 2003 Leo and Rise Raph are super stressed out leaders who also (SPOILERS) BOTH HAVE SHELL SCARS?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2003 Raph and Rise Don can both be a little dry and rude, but genuinely are caring people who feel bad when they unintentionally overstep, also if given access to firearms they would probably be a… public hazard to say the least
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the 2003 Don and Rise Mikey, who hold the team together- sometimes literally- and are absolute sweethearts but also I am incredibly terrified of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the correspondence but also how shaken up it is is wild to me

Febuwhump - Soft Words
Fandom: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003
Raph has a lot of questions about their guest. Since stewing on them in his own head isn’t doing any good he is, once again, recounting them to Leo.
“Are you absolutely sure he isn’t a Mikey?”
“Look, he says his name’s Leo. He’s wearing a blue mask. What more do you want?” Leo answers.
“Maybe for him not to be doing that?”
Raph gestures to where Mikey and ‘Leo’ are fighting over Mikey’s rocket powered hoverboard, ‘Leo’ licking Mikey’s hand where it’s flat over his face trying to push him off. This isn’t working because ‘Leo’ has all four limbs wrapped around the hoverboard. Mikey shrugs, puts one foot on ‘Leo’s’ shell and starts the hoverboard. It nearly crashes into Donnie’s workplace, rockets over Master Splinter’s head and finally tips upside-down from the weight depositing both turtles in the pool. They help each other climb out.
Leo shrugs. “He’s from a very different dimension?” he tries. “At least he’s not an evil duplicate.”
“Yeah, just a silly one.”
Leo grins and doesn’t deny it.
Raph returns to his second question. “And why is he my problem?”
“No one forced you to let him share your bedroom,” Leo says.
‘Leo’ comes up behind Raph and throws an arm over his shell. “Hey, Raphala, talking about me?”
“Yeah, I was wondering why I put up with you,” Raph grumbles, and it really is like talking to Mikey because ‘Leo’ just leans on him harder.
“My natural charm,” he chirps, flicking his mask tails.
“Yeah, right,” Raph says. “You finished terrorising the lair for today?”
Mikey thows his arm around Raph’s other side and says, “Never,” before sharing a high-three with ‘Leo’ over Raph’s head.
Donnie looks up and calls, “New Leo?”
‘Leo’ tenses up slightly and doesn’t stop leaning on Raph. “Hey, Donnie,” he calls. “You got an idea of how to return me to sender yet?”
“I might,” Donnie says. He holds up one of the two swords he was examining. “These have a similar signature to the transmatter device. I’ve put together an amplifier based on what I was able to glean from that.”
“Cool, cool, so you’re saying you turn your ampifier on and I just have to open a portal?” ‘Leo’ says, bounding over to inspect his swords. They’re wired up to what looks concerningly like a loudspeaker. “And that will boost me up to eleven?”
“Well, hopefully,” Donnie says. “Here.” He hands the swords to ‘Leo’, who takes them easily into his hands like they’re a part of him. That, at least, is familiar.
“We’re rooting for you, dude,” Mikey says.
‘Leo’ flashes him a grin. “Watch the master at work.”
It is really cool to watch ‘Leo’s’ sword cut a hole in reality. He’s used it to show off or steal snacks from Mikey multiple times, whenever Donnie doesn’t have the swords for study, and it’s still unfortunately cool. This time, though, ‘Leo’s’ face falls and the portal fizzles out before it’s formed.
“That wasn’t it, wasn’t far enough,” he mutters. He shakes his swords like he thinks they might have a connection loose. “Come on, come on, home, Raph, Donnie, Mikey, Dad, April. Come on.”
The next portal barely gets to more than a sliver of blue even as the amplifier starts to glow. Leo shakes his swords again, viciously.
“Don’t shake them,” Donnie says. “You’re going to break something in the amplifier.”
“I think I know how to make portals,” ‘Leo’ snaps. His next slash is wild, almost like he’s attacking the air in front of him, teeth bared in a snarl. “Just. Make. A. Portal.”
The last slash lights the whole lair up blue. For a moment Raph thinks it’s going to work, that the jagged tear in reality might hold, and then the amplifier makes a small popping sound and goes dull. After that the light fades from ‘Leo’s’ swords and lastly from his markings.
He drops the swords and takes two steps towards the wall, leaning his arm on it and pressing his face against that. Hiding from the concerned gazes of the turtles watching.
“Why am I so useless?” he says. “I’ve failed.”
The pose. The words. Suddenly Raph finds himself thinking, oh, this is Leo. He pictures Leo in space, thinking they’d lost Professor Honeycutt and their one chance to get home, saying they’d failed themselves and failed Master Splinter, the way he’d stood like this.
Raph does what he did then and walks over to put a hand on ‘Leo’s’ shell. “Hey, it’s not over yet. You can try again.”
“But it’s been so long already,” ‘Leo’ says. “I have to get back before Mikey does something stupid.”
“Yeah, well if he’s anything like our Mikey…”
“Not that kind of stupid! He can do portals too, but they… if he actually reaches me here he’s going to die. And I’ve just been playing around, trying not to think about it, because there’s nothing I can do except rely on Donnie.”
Raph looks back over his shoulder to Leo, hoping for some kind of help, but Leo’s just staring at his counterpart like it hurts to see this reflection of himself at his lowest.
“Me ’n’ Donnie are still there,” Raph tries. “We wouldn’t let Mikey kill himself.”
“Yeah, Raph’ll take care of him,” ‘Leo’ says. Then, just when Raph’s expecting him to relax and move on, find something practical to focus on, he throws his arms around Raph’s neck and buries his head against the top of Raph’s. Raph sighs and hugs him back. He feels so thin compared to Raph’s brothers, all long limbs and streamlined shell. “Thanks, big brother,” ‘Leo’ whispers. And only then does he turn away to pick up the swords, shaky smile back on his face.
“What were the readings like, Donnie?” he asks. “Did we get close?”
“Close enough I think we’re on the right lines,” Donnie says, taking the swords back. “I’ll have a new amplifier ready as soon as possible.”
Raph looks over at his own Leo, gaze fixed on the floor, and goes over to pat him on the shell too. “He’s not so bad,” he says. ”Guess he’s you after all.”
