remembered wayne&co were doing a thing today & after watching a bit I just had the thought 'maybe its supposed to be unfunny to subvert expectations even more' which surely is a sign this just isn't for me

Wow! Thanks for the long answer. My grief with the alleged "love" triangle is how so many people then go and treat Sora like her only point of intrest is what goes between her legs. I actually think one of the reasons both sorato and taiora were so platonic is so that come Loss, the creators could show us that Sora is a capable, developed character who's life doesn't revolve around men. Btw, taiorato as a threesome is mostly popular on tumblr. I havn't seen any evidance of that in japan.
You are very welcome :) thank you for the ask. I enjoy giving long responses because I love reading long responses :P
I completely agree with you that she is often reduced tobeing just a character used for shipping purposes. This is unfortunate and Idon’t like it either.
Unfortunately, this is something many characters suffer, whether they be male or female, though females have it happen more oftenbecause their characters are more likely to be underdeveloped or even used forthe sole purpose of being a romantic interest by the original creators. ButSora was given respect by the her original creators, she was given just as muchdevelopment as say Mimi and Jyou, was very obviously third in command (arguablysecond in command) of the group and was not designed just to be a romanticinterest for Yamato, they just happened to be romantic interests for each otherwhich was very lightly foreshadowed. So, this should not have happened.
Also, side note, the character bashing that came out of (andis still coming out of) the ship wars is ridiculous! And so much of it wasaimed at Sora for allegedly breaking Taichi’s heart or for flip floppingbetween the two boys… or at Yamato for stealing his best friend’s girl… but Ieven see some shit talk about Taichi as to why he doesn’t deserve Sora or howthey make a bad couple. That, more than anything, makes me very angry.
So manypeople seem to only like Sora when she is romantically paired with anothercharacter. Oddly enough I think I sort of suffer from this myself but that doesn’tmean I think it is okay. I am not the biggest fan of Sora and yet I am a lowkey Taiorato shipper and to an even lesser extend a Taiora shipper. I like itwhen Taichi and Sora fight, I find it both amusing and realistic of female/malerelationships. I also love the dynamic between her, Yamato and Taichi in manyscenes. So yeah, I like her more when she interacts with them but I don’t hateher on her own or ship bash her for ending up with one and not the other. Sorahas many cute moments and I have a sort of weird relationship of both likingher and having major issues with her and I flip back and forth between thinking“she is a pretty cool character” and “can we please get rid of Sora… I reallyjust do not want to see her anymore”. So, I’m kind of really weird and maybenot the best person to be talking about this lol cause I’m sort of a hypocriteI think
I thinkpart of the reason the relationship is being shown so platonically is becausethey don’t want to alienate the Taiora fans or Sorato fans by showing either asmore romantic than the other. Tri seems to be very much trying to satisfy all primaryshipper pairings to a certain extent, as well as not anger any of the shippersof these pairings.
I doreally like that neither Yamato nor Taichi were able to make Sora feel betterand that she solved her problem on her own. But they still let her get saved bybeing caught out of the air by Jyou 😃 they both satisfied my need forstrong independent females as well as my love for girls being saved orprotected by males (some people may think this is an oxymoron but I think thetwo can go hand in hand wonderful)
Thank youfor the insight regarding Taiorato only being on Tumblr. I still feel myargument might stand though because I feel Digimon is well aware of theironline fan base (heck I think it’s hard for creators nowadays to not be awareof the online fanbase)
I know it’ssilly but I’m still curious as to what I said to prompt you to send theoriginal ask :P
