By • Olalekan Fagbade Why we chose Naira Marley for drug abuse advocacy — NDLEA   The spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Femi Babafemi, has explained why the agency intentionally enlisted controversial artiste, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, for its drug abuse advocacy. It will be recalled that criticisms trailed a video of Naira Marley advising youths to stop taking illicit substances. This was particularly so because the singer is known to glorify and encourage drug abuse. In an interview with The PUNCH, Babafemi said, “It is an advocacy engagement with him. It is what we do as part of the responsibilities of the agency to promote advocacy messages that would discourage people from substance abuse. It is about the message. “Don’t forget that he has a lot of young followers— Marlians— that look up to him. The idea is for the leader of the movement (Marlians) to come out and ask people to stop substance abuse, and live a new life.” The drug agency’s spokesperson also noted that using Marley as an advocate did not mean that the agency won’t arrest him if he was caught with illegal substances. He said, “Last year, we arrested some of his artistes (Zinoleesky and Mohbad). That is to show that we are not closing our eyes. If the same Naira Marley is caught with illicit substances tomorrow, he will face sanctions.” Babafemi added that critics should consider the message and not focus on the messenger. One of the people who had criticised the choice of Naira Marley was actress, Tonto Dikeh. She wrote on social media, “NDLEA, you are looking like a disgrace. This is not an insult, but this is from a daughter of the soil speaking out on your misconduct. “I don’t involve myself in rubbish, especially that of other people. This, I must say, is the biggest embarrassment from any government agency/drug law enforcement agency. I would like to say more, but I’ll wait for NDLEA to pick me up for an interview/drug test/or just a chat. You know my address. I ask you to do it respectfully; otherwise we’ll have a problem. And, if I am replied I would gladly respond disrespectfully.” In a Facebook post, Ossai Success, an aide to a former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, vowed to take legal action against NDLEA if he saw Naira Marley smoking again after his visit to the agency. He wrote, “I will sue NDLEA if I see Naira Marley or any of the artistes signed to his record label smoking in his music video or on ground. I am watching him carefully because I am happy with this campaign.” An instagram user, Joshua Ominuta, also wrote, “So you guys couldn’t find a responsible human being to promote your stuff?” #drugabuse #drugadvocacy #Drugs #NairaMarley

The Warri-born Internet sensation said he was a staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu and the APC but decamped to the camp of the former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 elections, after he came across a portion of the bible that talks about correcting one’s wrongs. Mocking Nigerians over the current hike in fuel price and general economic hardship, Mr Jollof said he warned the citizens to stop supporting APC after decamping but many didn’t take his advice seriously. “APC used me”- Mr Jollof pic.twitter.com/VgQXl2YJ9D— 🐬 @𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗷𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗯𝗼𝘆 (@OneJoblessBoy) July 22, 2023 He stated this in a video trending on the internet. DELTA STATE PDP CAMPAIGN REALLY IN UGHELLI SOUTH AND ETHIOPE WEST LOCAL
2023: PDP will revive nation’s economy – Okowa
*** I Will Complete Orere Bridge, Construct Okwagbe Modern Market - Oborevwori
News updated on Jan 5, 2023
Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday assured Nigerians that Atiku Abubakar presidency would rebuild the nation’s economy, if elected.
Governor Okowa gave the assurance at Otu-Jeremi during the party’s campaigns in Ughelli South and Ethiope West Local Government Areas of the state, and said that PDP knew how to revive the economy as was the case in 1999 when it came into power after years of military rule.
He, therefore, urged the people to vote massively to cross the one million votes mark to ensure victory for the party, adding that the more the votes, the stronger his voice would be in Abuja.
He said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had destroyed Nigeria’s economy, with many multinational companies and organizations relocating to Ghana.
The Governor said “we did it when we came in 1999 and took the country to greater heights until APC came with their negative change that brought hunger, poverty, insecurity and unemployment.
“We were doing well as a nation until APC came with their bad change but I am very much convinced that we will win because other parties are struggling.
“All the problems brought into the country by the APC-led Federal Government would be addressed by the PDP presidency, when elected.
“The APC has destroyed the very fabrics of our national development, with insecurity and hunger everywhere in the country. The Atiku-Okowa presidency will ensure that the current challenges facing the nation will become things of the past.
“Atiku will revive the economy of Nigeria because PDP as a formidable political party, knows how to revive the economy.
“When the PDP government came on board in 1999 after long years of military rule, we restored the lost glory of the country by resuscitating the economy to an enviable status.
“Regrettably, when the APC-led Federal Government came on board, they destroyed the economy which the PDP had carefully and passionately built.
“By the grace of God, this time around that l am working with Atiku Abubakar and with the collective support of all of you, we will make Nigeria great again by repositioning the
