"So, take notes, Butcher Biden: The ancestors of the Ireland that you claim to be from disown you. Keep our country out of your mouth. And as for von der Leyen (President of the European Commission), and genocidal Germany with your words and deeds supporting Israel in the ICJ: Not in our name! The people of Europe stand with Palestine and with South Africa."
Clare Daly - Irish Politician and Member of the European Parliament - 16/01/2024

Ní thacaíonn roinnt daoine ach leis an bPalaistín toisc gur treocht é
Níor cheart go mbeadh orm é seo a rá fiú. Conas is féidir le daoine a bheith chomh cruálach sin?

2012 - final
originally posted 6/11/20
United Kingdom Objectively not a bad song. In fact, I'd even call it almost nice. Staging's alright too. The thing is, I think senior citizens should not sing about love in such a manner, like Engelbert is just creepy and so I kind of hate the song because of him alone. France In terms of song alone this is one of my favorites. Echo is just... it's good, it's so good in studio and it's not entirely lost onstage either. Staging was, as it always was in 2012, a little all over the place, but I liked parts of the staging, even though I maybe would have made some different costume choices. Italy Nina Zilli is one of those artists who's really performing on the Eurovision stage and I admire her just for that. It's a good song, seductive, and was subject to the same 2012 stage curse of all the other acts, enough so that when I originally ranked 2012 years ago this was my top song. I don't think I'd place it that high anymore, though; the key change between the verses and chorus is kind of disorienting and makes me lose some of my enthusiasm.
Azerbaijan Remember how I referenced making some a cappella covers of ESC songs in a previous post? Yeah, my When The Music Dies cover went the fuck off. It's such a beautiful song and Azerbaijan is the only other country besides Sweden who actually used the stage well. No wide shots! Ever! At all! Like, this is seriously so well done, so lovely, I think it might be one of my favorite Azerbaijani (Azeri? Which one is it?) entries. Spain Pastora's power vocals sell so much of the song for me. Quedate Conmigo is of course a strong song as it is, with good staging, but omg, her voice... it occurs to me that the autoqualifiers this year were for the most part really strong. Germany This is probably the most radio-friendly of the 2012 entries... not that that's a bad thing! It's nice to just listen to, and not bad to watch either, the staging actually isn't so bad. Something about the setup makes the stage feel a little smaller. My top 42

Voting/intervals I don't totally get this "superpostcard" thing. Like could they really not be bothered to do anything more interesting than just show all the postcards again with different music this time? (Yes, I know that's exactly what Israel did in 2019, but that was in the semifinal, this is the final y'all gotta step it up.) Lmao love how they introduce the interval act as being Emin and then Emin doesn't sing for like five minutes. Eastern countries hosting b like: this Eurovision can fit so much patriotism in it I mean other countries do this too but with Azerbaijan and Israel it's just... so much Thoughts after watching 2012 marks the start (or end, depending how you look at it) of a serious dip in quality that I think started around the mid-aughts. From here on out my rankings are gonna get WEIRD. That stage. Seriously. It killed so many songs that otherwise could have been very good, and the only two countries with genuinely good staging (Sweden and Azerbaijan) were those who never showed the scope of the stage at all.
