David Hogg is one of my heroes. He is a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida who went on with several classmates to organize the March For Our Lives.
He is now encouraging young people not just to vote but to run for federal and state office. He co-founded an organization called Leaders We Deserve to help younger progressive candidates.
This is not an attempt at generational or institutional war. As David explained, Leaders We Deserve (LWD) wants to create an intergenerational coalition for change within the progressive community. LWD furthers this by supporting younger progressive candidates who wish to run against older rightwingers. The advisory board of LWD includes veteran progressives such as Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09) and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD-08).
One of many reasons to support LWD is that much of the emphasis will be on state legislatures. The LWD site says, "At least 80% of the candidates we support will be running for State Legislative seats.". I have frequently encouraged people to take a lot more interest in their state legislatures. Until recently, liberals have badly neglected state politics – and we've seen the results of such neglect in states like Florida.
For more information about Leaders We Deserve, check out their site. Leaders We Deserve | Invest in Young People
To make a contribution, you do so via ActBlue. Leaders We Deserve — Donate via ActBlue
Surprisingly, one of the biggest success stories ever for electing young people to office is Joe Biden. He had not yet reached his 30th birthday when he upset incumbent Republican J. Caleb Boggs for US Senate in Delaware. Get involved now and you could go way far.

BONUS TRACK: Consider running for state legislature in your state this decade. In some states the minimum age is 18 – though 21 and 25 are more common. Look up the eligibility requirements for your state.

Enemies, a Love Story: Inside the 36-year Biden and McConnell Relationship
The two 78-year-old deal-makers have been parties to the collapse of Capitol culture. Now they’ll need to make Washington work again.
By ALEX THOMPSON    01/22/2021
The last time Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell faced off, Biden blinked first.
It was the winter of 2012. Then, as now, Democrats had just won a presidential election, had a narrow Senate majority, and Biden was earnestly proclaiming that the election would break the Republican “fever” of opposing the Democratic agenda.
The first test came immediately.
A cascade of deadlines on December 31, 2012, set up a world economy-level battle known as the “fiscal cliff.” Without any action by Congress, the next year would bring about $700 billion in combined tax hikes and budget cuts—extreme austerity measures that could cripple the recovering economy.
The Democratic Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, was willing to go over the cliff if McConnell didn’t agree to tax increases for the highest earners, one of Democrats’ signature campaign promises. Reid reasoned that if taxes were to rise automatically, McConnell would have to negotiate from a weakened position. Obama and Biden, however, feared an adverse reaction from the markets and a potential recession.
In a move that angered Reid, Biden took over the negotiations with Obama’s blessing. The outcome—a continuation of the Bush-era tax cuts with a relatively modest hike of 1.8 percent, weighted toward higher earners—was the kind of deal both negotiators could celebrate.
McConnell did, crowing to his fellow Republicans that “in a government controlled two-thirds by the Democrats, we got permanency for 99 percent of the Bush tax cuts.”
Biden did, boasting in a June 2019 debate that “I got Mitch McConnell to raise taxes $600 billion by raising the top rate.”
But many Democrats weren’t celebrating at all and still haven’t gotten over it. At the same 2019 debate, Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado called it “a complete victory for the Tea Party. It extended the Bush tax cuts permanently. The Democratic Party had been running against that for 10 years.”
Now, eight years later, Biden and McConnell are entering a new phase of their 36-year relationship, and the Democratic left fears a repeat of the 2012 dynamic. Once again, their party wields most of the levers of government. They control the White House and Senate, albeit by the slimmest possible margin. Unlike 2012, they have a slim majority in the House, as well. Nonetheless, they seem destined to be bargaining for half a loaf, at best, for anything that requires 60 votes in the Senate, the level necessary to defeat a filibuster.
That’s because between them and their agenda stands McConnell, an acknowledged master of Senate procedures, famed for his ability to block presidential agendas.
Even as McConnell has seen some of his power ebb away—losing his Senate majority on the clay fields of Georgia, breaking with Donald Trump in the final days of his presidency—he still finds himself an essential figure in Biden’s Washington.
He is the key to the new president’s ability to turn the page from the Trump years. After years of legislative stasis, Biden is betting big that the Senate can return to the deal-making body he and McConnell came of age in. He hopes that he and his 2012 negotiating partner can plumb their shared history to locate a workable middle in a hyperpolarized time.
That’s a special challenge for McConnell, who is already at odds with the Trumpian wing of the Republican Party after defying Trump on Biden’s victory and even privately being open to impeaching him. Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Tuesday called for a new leader in the Senate and said McConnell had revealed himself to be the “king of the establishment Republicans.”
Even if McConnell wanted to cut deals with Biden, any compromise could further undermine his and his members’ position with the Republican base ahead of the 2022 midterms and the next presidential election. Several Republican senators eyeing their own runs in 2024 are already signaling unapologetic opposition to the entire Biden agenda.
Meanwhile, Biden’s allies are loudly insisting that finding common ground is possible and exactly what the American people want after the past decade of partisan warfare. The Biden team is aware that many in their own party are rolling their eyes but argue that it’s just the latest instance of the Democratic establishment underestimating Joe Biden.
“People said it was naive, you know, 18, 19 months ago as he was running, he was criticized for it. But you know what? It's one of the reasons he won,” said a senior Biden White House adviser. Other Biden allies argue that voters will punish Republicans in 2022 if they look like they are being obstructionist in the middle of a crisis.
“A majority of senators have never served in a functional Senate,” said Delaware Sen. Chris Coons, a close Biden ally and friend. “This is the best chance the Senate will have in our lifetimes to get more functional, because we have an incoming president who knows and respects the Senate.”
But what constitutes functionality may be considerably less than Biden’s ambitious campaign promises.
“There are many examples of things that are just really beyond partisanship,” the senior adviser said. Asked for examples, the adviser pointed to second-tier issues like infrastructure spending and broadband internet access.
Jason Furman, who chaired President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers and is an occasional outside adviser to the Biden team, lowered expectations. “I’m not sure they can accomplish big things together, [but] I do think they can work together to keep the wheels on the bus,” he said.
McConnell, Furman believes, could be a willing partner in the basics—getting budgets passed in a timely manner, not playing chicken with the debt ceiling, and other incremental, good government measures.
Most skeptical of all is Obama himself, no fan of McConnell and someone who has chafed at the idea that his vice president might be able to achieve things that he himself could not.
“I’m enjoying reading now about how Joe Biden and Mitch have been friends for a long time,” the former president quipped to the Atlantic shortly after the 2020 election. “They’ve known each other for a long time.”
Washington friends aren’t normal friends. While some outliers like Ted Kennedy or John McCain genuinely relished their personal relationships across the aisle, the more enduring bond between long-serving senators is having belonged to such an exclusive club, and respect for its unwritten rules. Among these institutionalists, outsiders just don’t get it, whether they’re an earnest reformer like Obama or an imperious novice like Trump.
Biden, who joined the Senate in 1973, won his third term in the same year a former Senate staffer named Mitch McConnell won his first.
Like Biden, who began his Senate career by surprising the pundits with a razor-thin, upset win over two-term Republican Sen. J. Caleb Boggs, McConnell surprised much of the political world by edging out two-term Democrat Walter “Dee” Huddleston in the 1984 Senate race in Kentucky.
Despite being born nine months apart and sharing an interest in Senate history, the two men weren’t initially close during the 24 years they overlapped in the chamber, according to aides to both men.
“They are both good politicians, but they couldn't be more different as politicians and that was from the get go,” said Janet Mullins Grissom, who managed McConnell’s 1984 race against Huddleston and was one of the Senate’s first female chiefs of staff when McConnell appointed her in 1985.
Biden was loquacious, while McConnell was a man of few words. Biden had the grip and grin of a salesman, while McConnell displayed a tactician’s discipline climbing up the leadership ladder. Biden was a people pleaser, while McConnell at times reveled in criticism, even decorating an entire wall of his office with negative newspaper cartoons about himself.
In high school and college, Biden had been a popular kid, a jock and senior class president. McConnell was more of a nerd—he wore an “I Like Ike” button in his 5th-grade school picture—but with an enormous drive to figure out how to win over his peers in elections.
When facing off against a popular kid to be his school’s senior-class president, McConnell outmaneuvered him by courting the endorsement of other popular students. “I was prepared to ask for their vote using the only tool in my arsenal, the one thing teenagers most desire. Flattery,” he wrote in his memoir.
But there are some similarities, too.
Both have clan loyalties. Biden’s are mainly to members of his family, such as his sister Val, who managed all seven of his political campaigns before 2020. In later years, his sons joined his inner circle, as well, along with longtime aides like Ted Kaufman and Mike Donilon.
McConnell regards his political team as family. “He has a posse,” said Mullins Grissom. “It’s like the opposite of Donald Trump, but I think that that speaks to the person, and that he is an incredibly, incredibly loyal person.” Aides say that, for decades after they have left his office, they still refer to him as “boss.” And while McConnell’s daughters seem to be liberals like their mother and shun his politics, his second wife, two-time GOP Cabinet member Elaine Chao, is a Washington power broker and a political partner as well as a romantic one.
“When I picked Elaine up at her apartment at the Watergate, I was taken by her beauty, and proud to have her on my arm that evening,” McConnell wrote of their first date, a party for then-Vice President George H.W. Bush hosted by Saudi Arabia’s ambassador, Prince Bandar bin Sultan.
Former aides note that Biden and McConnell are also similar in that they are ideologically flexible: Each started off as a moderate and then moved left and right with their parties.

Has anybody else noticed a repeating trend amongst the Republican party?
I'm talking about the "One Blind Eye" bullshit some of these ass-clowns pull.
I'm back again fuckwits, and I'm more pissed than ever. Let's jump into the world of politics today since I have nothing better to do and don't have to worry about ripping someone's asshole out of their asshole.
Here we are, one year into Joe Biden's presidency. Gas prices are taking their annual rise with spring break coming up, international tensions are the highest they've been in 20 years, and the Republicans (specifically the people who worship the ground Donald Trump thinks he owns) are losing their fucking shit, as they do every time a Democrat is elected into office.
Let's start with a bit of disclosure from yours truly. I'm not political. I take no sides, I have no interest in either political party, and I could really give a rats rancid ass less about who is elected into office as long as they do their fucking job and do it right. We clear on this? If you forget these facts, I urge you to fuck off in a direction of your choosing and quit clogging my inbox with your half baked conspiracies and complaints.
With that in mind, let's look at what's been going on with our country's political cluster fuck over this last year. Specifically, the bullshit that the Republican party has been pulling.
Over the course of the last year, I have seen more and more complaints about Joe Biden from the Republican party than I have ever seen in my life regarding any other random ass topic. I don't have the time, patience, or blood pressure medication to go over all of it, so I'm just gonna focus on the ones that make my migraine a bit more noticeable.
First off, let's take a look at both parties presidential qualifications, and what they brought to the table (or in the Republicans case, what Donald Trump thought he was bringing).
We'll start with college education, since I don't give a fuck about elementary or high school bullshit. For the sake of chronology, we'll have a look-see at Donald Trump first. In 1968, Donald Trump graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science Economics. During his time at UPenn, he took undergraduate classes at Wharton School of Business, yet failed to obtain his MBA. Despite this, he repeatedly claimed to have graduated "First in his class", yet in a statement given by Forbes, Trump graduated without honors, which means he graduated with less that a 3.40 GPA. For those who don't know, that means he was a C student at best. Keep this in mind, as this is one in a long list of lies he's told so far. We might go in to this list at a later post, but not today.
Now on to Joe Biden. Now Joe earned two Degrees throughout his academic career. In 1965, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, three years before graduating and receiving his Law School diploma, and in 1968, having double majored in History and Political Science and minoring in English during his time at the University of Delaware, he received his Law degree. From that point, he eventually went on to form his own law firm before being elected for Delawares County Council while still practicing law until 1972. Shortly after, Biden would become a US Senator, despite being the underdog in a run against Republican J. Caleb Boggs.
So there's academic and practical career. But wait Uncle Fuck-Off! What about Donald Trump's practical career? Well little shitlings, the thing is he didn't have one. Despite obtaining a bachelor's degree in economics, he didn't really do anything with it, other than hide under his daddy's coat tail with his "small loan of a million dollars". He wouldn't go on to apply that bare minimum degree until the mid 80's where he inherited half his father's business estates, and inevitably running them into the ground with poor business practices and illegal labor exploits. "But he was a TV star!" On a show that got cancelled four months after it's release, as well as his shining 4.2 seconds of fame when he appeared in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Now let's look into the shady side of things. All that nasty crap that you only seem to care about when it's not targeted at something you support.
This time, we're gonna start with Biden. Oh Biden, you nasty child sniffing bastard. What else can I think of? Anything else?
Nope, that's about it. That's the only thing people have been able to target, other than the fact that he looks delirious and tired all the time, but come the fuck on! The dudes almost 80. You'd be fucking exhausted too if you were that old and had to run a country
Now Trump on the other hand. This orange menace has a fucking laundry list of bullshit pinned on him. Let's focus on the most heinous.
No less than 25 CONFIRMED allegations of sexual harassment and rape have been made against Donald Trump, including Ivanka Trump (his then-wife), Jill Harth (a fellow businesswoman), and Summer Zervos. And as if these notable figures aren't bad enough, there are numerous allegations of child rape that hold actual merit. And not helping his case at all, there are multitudes of audio and video recordings of this tanning salon abomination making statements such as "Grab 'em by the pussy" and "When you're as famous as I am, you don't even have to ask."
Is this seriously the kind of toxic waste you want to support? A lying, tax dollar stealing, failure of a businessman that looks like Adolf Hitler did a swan dive into a vat of Cheeto dust? What am I saying? Of course he is. Since you made the conscious decision to vote on him twice, odds are you're just like him.
Fuck it, I don't care that it's 10 a.m., I'm going back to bed.

Biden raised same slogan as Trump but showed different path
Tumblr media
Joe Biden in his election campaign sold a dream of reviving American industry. He projected a flourishing American economy and asked the followers to use this opportunity of industrial turmoil. He was focused about system equality and unveiled a $700 billion ‘Buy American’ proposal. Soon after this news was covered throughout political blogs around the world, critics termed it as a plagiarism in electoral campaign. White House trade advisor Peter Navarro said that the Democratic presidential candidate ‘ripped off’ the campaign of Donald Trump from 2016. Navarro said that this ‘Buy American’ was followed more by president Trump than his predecessor Obama by signing many such orders. Even former Vice President Biden himself was far behind.
 Same slogan, different policies
President Trump also alleged Biden for plagiarism the day after he unveiled the plan of promoting American manufacturing. Trump did not specify the exact portion of plagiarism in Biden’s speech though. It evident that that he was referring to the similarity with his campaign named ‘America first’. Despite the similarities in slogans, the political and economical approaches of both of them are vastly distinct. Biden in his campaigns called for ‘Build Back Better’. This is an economic plan that includes a “Buy American” module which will eventually generate $400 billion in government funds. The plan also includes $300 billion in research and development for a four year plan that will amalgamate research institutes and business establishments. In response to Trump’s comment, Biden called his plan as antithesis of Trump’s.
Biden with a distinguished political career
Biden became the Vice President on 20th January 2009. He was assumed to have playing a role of a background counselor to Obama. Obama often called him the soldier of the team who fights but never shows up. He worked as a lawyer before getting into government and politics. His skills on law and negotiation made important addition to the Obama government. Biden was Delaware’s longest serving senator before becoming vice president. In 1972 during his attorney career in Delaware; Delaware Democratic Party almost insisted him to contest against the already popular Republican candidate J. Caleb Boggs for the senate. Biden was 29 then. After a low profile campaign Biden made the biggest upset and defeated Boggs. It marked the beginning of youngest ever senator of Delaware. 1972 was a year of personal losses for him as well. He lost his daughter and wife in a fatal car accident. His two sons were also seriously injured. To spend time with injured children, he never moved to Washington as a senator. He took public transport to reach office. It continued for his whole term as the senator.
Need to work on those promises
Biden is one of those American senators who gained respect throughout his chair form 1973 to 2009. Foreign relations, policies are his forte. Trump claimed that he would not be able to execute the ‘Buy American’ proposal. With his approach and image as a politician, he never stared as a favorite in anything.  But it will be interesting to see what he does with this ambition in the race of White House.

It’s week 3 of our weekly look through the Boardgame Geek Top 100 to see what games I’ve played and which ones I may be interested in playing.
Last week I got educated about Dominion, maybe even enough to try it again some day.
What will this week bring?
Maybe a treatise on train games?
You got that in you, Dave? (let’s see if he reads this…)
I picture Dave like this.
Tumblr media
Let’s see if he even sees this…if so, I’m sorry.
Anyway, this week there are a lot more that I’ve played, and some good stuff in here.
And some…well, not so good stuff. At least for me.
So let’s get started!
#80 – Roll for the Galaxy (Rio Grande Games) – 2014
Tumblr media
Designers: Wei-Hwa Huang, Thomas Lehmann
Artists: Martin Hoffmann, Claus Stephan, Mirko Suzuki
Roll for the Galaxy is the dice version of Lehmann’s Roll for the Galaxy, but it is so much more than that.
Tumblr media
No screenshots of the app yet, so have to make do with boring pictures of the tabletop game
Each player will get a set number and type of dice depending on their starting world development that they choose at the beginning of the game. These dice will then be rolled and secretly used to activate actions.
You get points based on the points on the tiles that you build, whether they are developments or worlds that you colonize (just like the card game) but you have to assign dice to these tiles on your player sheet. Each tile takes the number of dice equal to the point value to put them into your tableau. If you don’t build it in one shot, those dice are trapped until you do.
When you assign your dice, you have to choose one action to activate (Explore, Develop, Settle, Produce and Ship). You can use any die to activate an action, but all subsequent dice assigned to that action have to actually have that action’s symbol (there are ways around that, of course).
If somebody else chose an action that you have dice for, you get to use those dice as well, but if nobody did, they go back into your cup.
Tumblr media
I really like this game a lot, and it’s a shame that I haven’t played it since 2017. It just hasn’t come out to the table since then and the one guy who owns it hasn’t been to our game day in quite a while.
I have played some games on Boardgame Arena, though, which is nice.
Here’s hoping I do get it to the table again soon!
#79 – Russian Railroads (Z-Man Games) – 2013
Tumblr media
Designers: Helmut Ohley, Leonhard “Lonny” Orgler
Artists: Martin Hoffmann, Claus Stephan
Two entries in a row with Hoffmann & Stephan art!
Russian Railroads is a game that breaks my brain, though part of that is because I tried to figure it out on Boardgame Arena a few times.
It never really made that much sense to me, but I think I have an inkling of what’s going on in the game.
I’m just terrible at optimizing actions.
Needless to say, I’ve never played it on the table, though it has shown up at a couple of game days in the last year or so.
There’s just been something else I wanted to play instead.
Essentially you’re trying to build the best railway network in Russia (I assume, based on the name).
From BGG:
“The development of simple tracks will quickly bring the players to important places, while the modernization of their railway network will improve the efficiency of their machinery. Newer locomotives cover greater distances and factories churn out improved technology. Engineers, when used effectively, can be the extra boost that an empire needs to race past the competition.”
There are three tracks that you’re trying to extend, but you’re also trying to make them good tracks, as well as doing other things. There are multiple paths to victory (so they say) and like most games where that’s the case, I always found myself doing a little of everything and thus falling way behind.
I wouldn’t mind trying this once just to see if I can wrap my head around it when I can physically manipulate the pieces.
However, it’s not that urgent.
If I never get the chance to play it, I won’t be that heart-broken.
Fans of the game, tell me why I should play this as soon as possible.
And then maybe I’ll do it.
#78 – Codenames (Czech Games Edition) – 2015
Tumblr media
Designer: Vlaada Chvátil
Artists: Stéphane Gantiez, Tomáš Kučerovský, Filip Murmak
I’m not big into party games for some reason. Maybe I’m just an anti-fun guy, I don’t know.
Codenames is a party game in that there are two teams of multiple players and they’re both trying to make contact with their agents by using the clues that the clue-giver on the team says to try and identify the words on the table that match their agents.
A number of cards with words are laid out in a 5×5 grid. The clue-givers on each team have a layout of which cards are their agents and which ones aren’t. They give one-word clues and say how many of the cards they are referencing with that clue.
The other players have to then try to guess, but if they choose one of the opposing team’s agents, they their turn ends and that helps the other team because they have fewer agents to identify. If they choose an innocent bystander, their turn just ends.
If they choose their own, then they can keep guessing. If either team accidentally chooses the assassin, they lose.
The starting team has 9 agents to identify while the other team has 8.
Whoever identifies all of their agents first wins!
Codenames is a fun little game but it’s not something that really grabbed me that hard. I’m not that great at deduction games and I am a terrible clue-giver in this one. I haven’t played it since 2016 (back when I was less diligent taking pictures, as I couldn’t find one!) and I have no aching desire to do so either.
Of course, it’s moved on now with multiple variations of the same thing (Marvel, Disney, etc), including a 2-player cooperative game!
So many Codenames, so little time.
#77 – Architects of the West Kingdom (Renegade Games Studios/Garphill Games) – 2018
Tumblr media
Designers: Shem Phillips, S J Macdonald
Artist: Mihajlo Dimitrievski
On the other hand, how about one of my Top 10 games played of all time?
Yeah, that would be Architects of the West Kingdom, a game that I’ve reviewed here (and people really seem to gravitate towards it as it now has my second-highest view count on this blog)
Tumblr media
Blue didn’t build much, I see…
Go check out the review if you want to know how to play, but why do I like it so much?
I love the “place workers to get resources and the more workers you have there, the more you get but somebody might come and capture all of them to weaken you again” mechanic (say that 3 times fast!). I love the apprentices and how they work to make your actions even better, or at least help you build more buildings.
I love the Black Market and how Virtue can get you points but also can affect whether you can either build in the Church or visit the Black Market (though come on, in reality if you are too virtuous to visit the Black Market you would find a way to get somebody to go for you).
Everything just goes together so well and it’s a blast to play. And it doesn’t even take that long either.
The University adornment gets you a new building card and 2 more points! The Smithy adornment gets you three stone immediately and also 2 more points.
I only have one play of the game with the Age of the Artisans expansion, but I think it will make this game go up even higher in my esteem (if that’s possible).
After you’re done reading this review, go try a game of this however you can. See if you think I’m right.
Because I am.
#76 –Marvel Champions: the Card Game (Fantasy Flight Games) – 2019
Tumblr media
Designers: Michael Boggs, Nate French, Caleb Grace
Artists: N/A
I first (and only) played this game at OrcaCon in January and while it ain’t no Marvel Legendary it is kind of fun in its own right.
It’s a totally cooperative game where you all play a Marvel hero (I believe there are 4 in the basic box?) that will be teaming up with other heroes to defeat the nasty villains and their schemes.
Tumblr media
The base box comes with Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Iron Man but you can buy multiple expansion packs with new cards, new heroes, new villains, and stuff like that.
It was a fun game and I liked how it scales based on the number of players (basically each player draws a card from the villain deck at the end of their turn and has to face what happens, so fewer players means that fewer cards come out.
Tumblr media
I just have a thing about Living Card Games (LCGs). I don’t want to be constantly buying new stuff, even though I do like that you know what the new stuff will be rather than buying random Magic: the Gathering packs.
The Marvel Champions packs seem to just add new scenarios and heroes and stuff. I don’t think they add cards for the original heroes (though maybe they do? Somebody please tell me).
The other LCGs that I took a look at, namely Arkham Horror: the Card Game, while you can play with the suggested decks it also has deck customization options as well. I don’t want to construct a deck before each scenario/story and that along with having to buy more and more stuff to get the varied content has just turned me off to the whole concept.
However, as a standalone experience, Marvel Champions was a fun game to play and I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to play it again.
LCGs just don’t really appeal to me in general as far as playing multiple times.
Somebody tell me what I’m missing.
#75 – Aeon’s End (Indie Boards & Cards) – 2016
Tumblr media
Designer: Kevin Riley
Artists: Gong Studios, Stephanie Gustafsson, Scott Hartman, Daniel Solis
Aeon’s End is a cooperative card game where you are trying to defend a town from ancient evil (or maybe just evil in general).
You will choose a Nemesis which will come with its own card deck and then up to 4 players.
There are a couple of interesting-sounding twists to this.
First, there is no shuffling. When you discard your hand, you choose the order it goes in. When you are out of cards, you just flip your discard pile over and start playing again. So you know exactly what cards are coming and when.
Secondly, who acts first, second, etc, is completely randomized. The bad guys could go twice in a row, or maybe it will end up being in order.
Who knows?
Tumblr media
From the app, since I haven’t played this before
I have only played the Steam version of Aeon’s End and I know I’m having a devil of a time trying to figure out how to play this and win. I know the basic rules (or can pick them up again, as I haven’t played in a while), but I get my ass kicked every time I play.
It’s starting to hurt.
I wouldn’t mind trying this on the table once, especially with somebody who’s played it before and can coach me.
Because otherwise, there’s no way to win.
When a village sees me coming to protect it, they start setting up their wills and everything because they know they’re going to die.
#74 – Patchwork (Lookout Games) – 2014
Tumblr media
Designer: Uwe Rosenberg
Artist: Klemens Franz
Patchwork is a 2-player tile-laying game where you are trying to fill a grid (quilt) with a bunch of different misshapen pieces of cardboard (fabric). You are collecting buttons that will then enable you to take one of up to three pieces that are available to you (depending on how many buttons they cost).
At the end of the game, your points will be the number of buttons you have minus points for any missing squares on your grid.
I have to say that tile-laying “Tetris-shaped pieces” games don’t really do a lot for me.
When I first (and only time) played it on the table back in March 2016, I didn’t really care for it that much.
I don’t like spatial puzzles and this was the ultimate in spatial puzzles.
Then I played the app.
Tumblr media
Wow, man, I fell in love with it.
Sure, I still suck at it and probably will never win a game.
But I decided that it didn’t matter. I really really like it.
So much so that I have finally bought a copy (when 401 Games is able to get it to me).
I’ll be able to let you know more a little later whether the game on the table holds up or not.
I’m really looking forward to it, actually.
#73 – Agricola – Revised Edition (Lookout Games) – 2016
Tumblr media
Designer: Uwe Rosenberg
Artist: Klemens Franz
It’s a Lookout Games/Uwe Rosenberg/Klemens Franz twofer!!!!!
Yes, we have another Uwe game with Klemens art but they couldn’t be any more different.
Agricola is the first of Uwe’s many “place workers (family members) somewhere to get something, and then don’t forget to feed them at the end or bad things will happen” games (For some reason I have trouble shortening these descriptions).
In it, you’re running a family farm, trying to build up your farmhouse, raise many sorts of animals and plant your crops.
Each round an additional space opens up for you to place your worker, where you can get resources, food, animals or crops to then sow in your plowed fields.
At the end of a certain number of rounds, you have to have enough food to feed all of your family members.
Don’t worry, nobody dies. You just have to beg for food (and lose points).
Might be more fun if somebody did die.
It would be an Ameritrash game then!
I have never played this game on the table, but I have played the app of the original version (this revised edition came out in 2016).
I’m honestly not really sure what the Revised Edition does.
I really don’t enjoy this game that much. The idea of feeding your family is ok (and has been done in many games since) but it’s a very punishing game.
I have never been able to figure this one out. I have played its sister game, Caverna, and it’s much more pleasurable to me (though I still haven’t played it in a long time). Caverna isn’t quite as punishing with the feeding mechanism and that makes me feel less trapped.
I’ve played this on the app recently and unfortunately it still doesn’t agree with me.
Sorry to you fans.
#72 – Troyes (Pearl Games) – 2010
Tumblr media
Designer: Sébastien Dujardin, Xavier Georges, Alain Orban
Artists: Sébastien Dujardin, Xavier Georges, Alain Orban, Alexandre Roche
I played this game once on the table but have played many games on Boardgame Arena since then.
This is a dice rolling and drafting (kind of) game where you are managing your own section of the population of this famous city (pronounced “Twah” for those uninitiated). This population is in the form of dice depending on what regions you have your people stationed: Religious, Civil or Military.
You roll your dice and then the first thing everybody has to do is beat off invasions using some of their dice.
Remaining dice are then used to do various actions around the city (or out in the countryside where you may use them to cancel bad stuff that’s sitting out there). You can even buy your opponents’ dice because you need more and you don’t want them to have them.
That can be a mean thing.
It’s a game I enjoy but don’t love, and I haven’t had much of an urge to get it to the table again (not that I could without buying it, as I don’t think anybody I know has it anymore).
It’s fun enough, though, and I’m always willing to play an asynchronous game on BGA, but it’s not something I’m burning to play again any time soon.
I do like the dice drafting mechanics and how you can place your workers in a bunch of different areas to make actions more efficient (as well as possibly get points for them at the end of the game).
I really like how you can buy other players’ dice too.
Overall, I think it’s worthy of its spot in the Top 100 even if it wouldn’t be in mine (well, maybe it would since I’ve only played something like 350 games, but you know what I mean).
#71 – Battlestar Galactica: the Board Game (Fantasy Flight Games) – 2008
Tumblr media
Designer: Corey Konieczka
Artists: Kevin Childress, Andrew Navaro, Brian Schomburg, WiL Springer
And now we come to almost the ultimate hidden traitor game, a game that sounds so cool that I really want to play it.
Sadly, I never have.
And it’s not for lack of opportunity, because I have seen it being set up at conventions and stuff.
It just intimidates the crap out of me, partially because of the deduction aspect and partially because it can take 2-3 hours to play. Every time I’ve had the opportunity, something has just told me “no, you need to leave yourself open to other stuff” and I back away slowly.
Maybe I’m a Cylon in disguise and I just don’t know it?
It’s a semi-cooperative game because you are trying to get the Humans to safety, but some of you (at least one, I think, and perhaps more than one?) are Cylons hidden for years without even knowing about it, programmed to doom humanity.
Do you hide the fact that you’re a Cylon or do you just go balls to the wall and try to kill everybody?
Those sound like exciting decisions.
If I ever get back to a con and I see this being set up (or if it’s a scheduled game), I need to sit down and play it.
Scratch that itch, fulfill that dream, kill that human get the humans to Earth.
Crap, that was supposed to be a “delete,” not “strikethrough”
I have revealed myself.
Run for your lives!!!!
So we’ve reached the end of another week. I’ve played 6 this week with one on Boardgame Arena and one on Steam (also an iOS app if you don’t count the Revised Edition). Not too bad.
That makes 13 that I’ve played “officially” (on the table) out of the bottom 30. Almost 50%
Will that go up or down next week?
I guess you’ll have to tune in and find out.
What do you think of these games? Love them? Hate them? Good enough for Cylons but not you?
Is there something I really need to play in there?
Let me know in the comments.

  Raymond Howard Caldwell, age 58
Raymond Howard Caldwell, age 58, of North Wilkesboro, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, March 8, 2019. He was surrounded by his family and love ones as he peacefully met Jesus and entered his eternal home. Raymond was born August 23, 1960 in Oxford, Pennsylvania to Oscar Howard and Esta Stanley Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dallas Gene Caldwell and James David Caldwell.
He served in the United States Army National Guard, where of many values he developed a superb work ethic. Raymond was known to work hard for his family and love ones during his lifetime. He was selfless. Many times he would sacrifice his needs and wants to make sure his kids and family were taken care of first. His jobs ranged from installing siding and windows to selling auto parts and working at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Raymond was an avid softball player, with a wall full of trophies. As wells as a coach for local county little league for many years. He enjoyed working on and restoring old cars. Anyone who knew Raymond was well aware of his "itch" to find an old 70's car and bring it back to its luster.
His love of people was evident by just meeting Raymond. "Everyone Loves Raymond" wasn't a joke, because if you met Raymond he infected you with his laughter, jokes and his love of life. He never met a stranger and would talk to you about his love for the Lord Jesus, as well as, listening to your stresses to help lift your burdens. Raymond was always ready with an uplifting word. He always had a joke handy, one of which was to send a new siding installer to the truck for the "siding stretcher"(think about it , "can you stretch siding?) He was blessed to work many years with two of his sons and his longtime friend, Randy Little, in the siding business. He had an infectious smile, since of humor, love of life and love for his Lord Jesus which he was entrusted his family with to carry forward.
Raymond's love of animals brought many rescues to his home, two of which were a small scotty dog named "Razor" that went everywhere Raymond went tucked in an inner jacket pocket or under a shirt to go "bye-bye" for a truck ride. Razor passed years ago and his affections were taken over by a tail-less kitten that he nursed to health. McKenna became his loyal companion and would not leave his side. She even played fetch with him as he would throw a pencil and she would run get it, flip it in her mouth and bring it back to him. She calmed him in later months of his illness and she was at his side as Raymond passed.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa McLeese-Caldwell of the home; sons, Jeffrey Allen Caldwell and wife Kristy of Wilkesboro, Phillip Nathan McLeese and wife Sarah of Jefferson, Jeremy Scott Osborne and wife Samantha of Boomer; daughter, Erica McLeese Billings and husband Jonathan of North Wilkesboro; brother, , John Richard Cardwell of North Wilkesboro  his "grands", Joshua Scott Osborne, Bryson Lee Osborne, Eliana Grace Caldwell, Adilyn Bell Caldwell, John Thomas "J.T." Billings and "J.T.'s baby sister Audrey Kate Billings, due in June; brothers, Donald Franklin Walter and wife Nancy of North Wilkesboro; sisters, Della Kathleen Osborne and husband David, Wilkesboro, Debra Ann Jones of Mtn. View, Esta Marie Caldwell of Hiddenite; and one of his best pals Jerry Call, who was like a father to him.
Funeral service were held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Church, Rev. Matthew Jones and Rev. David Wellborn officiating. Burial will follow in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at Miller Funeral Service from 3:00 until 4:00 on Tuesday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miller Funeral Service to help with funeral expenses or to the American Liver Foundation, National Office, 39 Broadway Suite 2700, New York, New York, 10006. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.millerfuneralservice.com

BBC bildirdi.Weiss'in ofisinin Yargıç Maryellen Noreika tarafınca talep edilen durum raporuna gore, yasadışı alev ateş tabanca bulundurmak ve uyuşturucu kullanmak sebebiyle federal soruşturma altında olan Hunter Biden'a planlanan yeni iddianame için 29 Eylül'e kadar süre verildi.Hunter ek olarak iş anlaşmaları sebebiyle federal soruşturma altında.Kısa sürede meydana getirilen bir mahkeme başvurusunda hukuk ekibi, müvekkillerinin denetimli serbestlik ofisi tarafınca verilen sözde oyalama anlaşmasının koşullarına uyduğunu ve iki yıl süresince beladan uzak durmasını gerektirdiğini belirtti.Avukatı Abbe Lowell şunları söylemiş oldu: "Biden'a yönelik genişleyen beş senelik soruşturmanın siyasal baskı haricinde değil, kanıtlara ve hukuka dayanarak adil bir halde çözülmesini bekliyoruz."Temmuz ayında Hunter Biden, Yargıç Noreika'nın, Federal Hükümet tarafınca denetlenen "alışılmadık" bir müdafa anlaşmasını onaylayamayacağını söylemesinin arkasından, 2017'den 2018'e kadar senelik 1,5 milyon doları (1,2 milyon £) aşan gelir üstünden iki kez federal vergi ödememe suçlamasını kabul etmedi. Weiss, bu onu hapis cezasından kurtarırdı.Cumhuriyetçiler, Başsavcı Merrick Garland'ın, Trump'ın atadığı Weiss'i Hunter Biden'ın soruşturması için hususi danışman olarak atamasını eleştiriyor ve onun "tatlım" müdafa anlaşmasına aracılık etme rolünü ve Biden'ın Wilmington, Delaware'deki merhum oğlu Beau ile daha önceki ilişkisini öne sürüyor.Kurultay'deki Cumhuriyetçiler, Başkan Biden'ı oğlunun dış işlerine karışmakla suçlayan bir azil soruşturması açmayı düşünüyor. Geçen ay, Temsilciler Meclisi nezaret komitesi, Biden ailesinin ve ortaklarının, Biden'ın 2009-2017 yılları arasındaki başkan yardımcılığı esnasında Rusya, Kazakistan ve Ukrayna'daki oligarklardan 20 milyon dolar yararlandığını ortaya koyan banka kayıtlarına atıfta bulunmuş oldu.Buna gore Fox HaberTemsilciler Meclisi Sözcüsü Kevin McCarthy kısa süre ilkin şunları söylemiş oldu: "Şu ana kadar toplayabildiğimiz tüm bilgilere bakarsanız, azil soruşturmasına gitmek zorunda kalmanız ileriye doğru atılmış organik bir adımdır."
