I would not really call Candy Claws shoegaze. Many of the reviews mentioned this - yes the vocals sound shoegazy, but the music isn't anywhere close.

"Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time was the 4th album from this Fort Collins, Colorado band. Members of the band later formed Sound of Ceres (Joyful Noise Recordings) with members of The Apples in Stereo and The Drums.

This album is a concept album developed with the help of poet Jenn Morea. The album tells the story of a white seal named Ceres and a little girl named Calypso traveling through the Mesozoic Era. The music does give one the sense of a wondrous world and story. To me the music does recall the work of any number of Elefant 6 bands (i.e. Of Montreal or The Apples in Stereo) and MGMT.

This is a 10-year anniversary release and comes with a bonus CD. It is being reissued by the original label - Twosyllable Records.

The final album by this dreamy noise pop group is a collaboration with poet Jenn Morea, following a young girl and her animal sidekick on an adventure through the Mesozoic era. An ethereal sound and lyrics influenced by natural history make this a transportive listen. "Pangaea Girls (Magic Feeling)" is a particularly lovely track, with infectious bass and fuzzy, distant guitar.
