Okay I’ve tried to hold this in to no avail: our penalties in the FA Cup final weren’t…good. Mendy got a hand to multiple ones and the winning one went in because he dove the wrong way, and Kostas wasn’t using the goalkeeper-dependent method, as far as I can tell from just one angle of the replay. It came down to luck that Mendy went the other way. Our pens in the league cup final were much better, understandably so since 3 of those usual takers (Mo, Fab, Virg) weren’t on the pitch this time. Let’s hit with power into the top corner or side netting, make them unsavable 🙏 And this tactic that neur11 (I assume) have us doing where our keeper takes the ball to the next-up shooter to circumvent opposing keeper mind games, I’m shocked it’s not already stolen by every other team since the league cup final where Kweeveen did it, let’s stick with that.

Mike Conway (Driver, car #7):
“It is a frustrating race for car #7 and another blow to our World Championship, unfortunately. We were leading and then within a few laps everything fell apart. I felt we had the pace to potentially win the race with a bit of luck, but the race was going backwards and forwards with the tyre strategies. The contact took us out of contention so third was the best we could do from that point. We have to live and learn, and keep working hard until the end of the season.”
José María López (Driver, car #7):
“In the end, second and third is not a bad result for the team because it was a challenging weekend. Unfortunately we had this contact and then the penalty, although we had already suffered by going a lap down due to the damage. After that, our race was lost. We were in the mix for the win and it was an exciting race, but it didn’t go our way. The competition will be strong for the rest of the season so we need to get used to close races like that. We will come back strongly in Fuji and try to win.”
Sébastien Buemi (Driver, car #8):
“It was an eventful race for both cars. I am bit disappointed to miss out on the win by so little because we had a chance today. I had the issue early in the race and I did the best I could to minimise the time loss but it was not easy as the car was not driving normally. We got a break with the safety car, which helped us catch up to the leader and gave us a chance. Brendon and Ryo did a good job trying to catch the Alpine so it was a good recovery in the end.”
Brendon Hartley (Driver, car #8):
“I think we did a very good race and it’s a bit annoying to miss the win by three seconds after six hours. Séb had the issue early in the race but he managed it very well and we didn’t lose too much time. The pace from all three drivers was strong all day, and the engineers and mechanics did a great job too. Alpine were quick today; we didn’t do much wrong but we still fell short so congratulations to them. Now we want to come back stronger in Fuji.”
Ryo Hirakawa (Driver, car #8):
“I am a bit disappointed to be second because I tried everything to get the win. The team reacted really well to the issue which Séb had and thanks to their efforts we were not so far behind and had the chance to come back into the race after the safety car. I was always very close to the Alpine but I couldn’t quite make it, which was frustrating. We only have two races remaining and the next one is our home track. We have to finish ahead of the Alpine to win the World Championship so the goal is clear. We will keep pushing to get back in the centre of the podium.”

Since the novel ended on Kakeru's 4th year what if you continued it? what would write about future lives of our kansei boys?
Tumblr media
*whispers*  thank you for this ask! ヽ(*>∇
I know this ended up being the tsunami wall of text that absolutely nobody asked for, but my feelings for the Aotake squad go really deep and I doubt I will ever get a Kazetsuyo ask as indulgent as this one again. It’ll make me very happy if someone enjoys all my headcanons (and then some).
Tumblr media
Akihiro cleaned himself up and graduated properly by the following spring (he bowed out of the ekiden on his fourth year to concentrate on his finals). After graduation, he pursued a career at a non-profit organization as a software developer engineer. At the reunion timeline, Version 2.0 of his tracking software* has just been slated for an international release. Akihiro became an active member of Namban Rengo (Tokyo’s International Running Club), and continues to participate in various running activities across the country with like-minded fellows.
*I didn’t mention this in my Q&A, but in the novel, Nico actually came up with a running simulator software program (with Yuki’s assistance), that was supposedly able to track, compare and calculate each runner’s speed and final positions in the race. It didn’t work very well though, because it was running so slowly that the rest thought it’s just faster to calculate with pen and paper, lol!
Tumblr media
Yohei was still out of work for a good six months after graduation, so he accepted a sales job at a Television network when it opened up. While it’s not his dream job, he did find that he was good at it so he stuck with it (he could keep a conversation going, and was good at making pitches to achieve a sale). Working at a TV station also has its perks, as it brought him closer to the variety shows that he enjoys watching. At the reunion timeline, he’s already at a senior rank where he gets to train new recruits. He still has difficulty connecting with people on an intimate level*, but recently, a new starry-eyed junior who just joined his team has showed interest in his favourite show, and his enthusiasm reminds Yohei of someone he knew back at Aotake…
*Yohei explained his thoughts a lot clearer to me in the novel than in the anime. Yohei sees the ekiden as also fulfilling his dream - to feel that intimate connection with others he never got in real life. And yes, even with the Aotake members, he has always felt left out until they started running together, and he admits that because of his pride and timidity, he’s not very likely to change, and he may never feel this closeness to others again when the ekiden ends (hence a dream he did not want to wake up from). But I wish for good things to happen to him, I really do. Don’t give up, Yohei!
Tumblr media
Yukihiko reconciled with his family shortly after the ekiden (he called his mother after the race was over to talk), and by the time graduation rolled around, he had already secured a job as an intern at a respectable law firm located in Roppongi, and was confirmed as a graduate associate within a year. At the reunion timeline, he is still ambitiously working his way up the corporate ranks to make partner (which he aims to succeed within six years or less).
Yuki never moved back in with his step family and still prefers to live on his own (a guy needs his own space to invite dates home, so he says), but now he contacts his mother regularly, and dutifully visits his step family every New Year’s Day. He is also fairly over-protective of his step-sister (whom all her potential suitors get rigidly screened by him).
Tumblr media
Takashi took over as captain of the Kansei U track and field team after Haiji left, and participated in the next ekiden running in the same section, where he ranked 6th. After graduation, he returned back to Yamagata to manage the family business, but still travelled regularly between Yamagata and Tokyo to visit his friends (he’s the one who diligently keeps in touch with everyone from Aotake). At the reunion timeline, his family has recently expanded into the sake export business, and Takashi is in talks with some of his dad’s partners to set up a business branch in Tokyo.
This year, instead of Musa coming to visit his hometown, it’ll be his turn visiting Musa’s family in Tanzania.
Tumblr media
Musa stayed on in the Kansei U track and field team, and took part in the ekiden on his third and fourth year (he ran in Section 2 and Section 9 respectively, averaging 5th position for both). Since his first trip to Yamagata, he’s been visiting Shindo’s family back in his hometown every year, and has learnt to ski! At the reunion timeline, Musa is pursuing another year of studies at Kansei U. He then went and studied some more, and eventually obtained his PhD. He also became very fluent in Japanese*, and a position as adjunct professor in Kansei U happened to open up, which he applied for and got accepted.
He served as club advisor to the Kansei U Track and Field team after Mr. Tazaki retired, and remains as the oldest member of Aotake who is still affiliated with Kansei U.
*More as an additional headcanon than footnote, but I’ve always pegged Musa as being bi- or trilingual when he arrived at Aotake - being fluent in English, Swahili and a third dialect (since he’s from Africa), just that none of those were useful when he was in Japan!
Tumblr media
Akane never participated in future ekiden races again, but remained in the Kansei U track and field team as a perfunctory member (so he could stay in Aotake till he graduated). He continued to dabble in all things manga for the rest of his uni years, but always made time to help out at the ekiden, mostly as Kakeru’s assistant in his section since he already has experience with it.
At the reunion timeline, he’s working as a Junior editor at the manga department of one of the top four publishing houses in Japan, where he handles shojo manga titles (he’s extremely popular among his female colleagues). Despite his constant complaints of tight deadlines and pressuring working conditions, he continues to remain in that industry, and in a couple of years he gets promoted to editor-in-chief and takes over managing the sports manga section.
Tumblr media
Jojiro found his affinity with running after his first ekiden experience, and opted to stay on with the track and field team to continue to pursue running seriously. He took over as vice-captain after Kakeru was promoted, and can be credited for pulling in a record number of members that year. After graduation, he was recruited into a prestigious corporation along with his brother and joined their Running Club, and meets Kakeru and Haiji’s team regularly as friendly rivals in the races held in the Kanto region. Although he has yet to best Kakeru’s time in the races, there is one thing he did win over Kakeru, and that’s being the first to confess to Hana-chan after graduation. He also goes on to be the first among his same-age peers to get married, and Kakeru was his second best man together with his brother Jota.
Jotaro left the Kansei U track and field team* in his second year (with Kakeru and Joji’s blessings) and went back to his first love, soccer. He joined the Kansei U Football Club and earned his spot as a regular, and even got to play in the Kanto league. Since their “separation”, the Jo brothers were closer than ever, and they discovered something interesting that came out of them doing different things – that they’ve had even more successes pranking juniors in their clubs, most of whom had no idea they came as a set! After graduation, he joins his brother Joji in the same corporation, but doing work in a different department (and the pranking continues, lol). The brothers and Kakeru remain very close friends.
*My headcanon of Jota obviously diverts from anime canon where they’re both still in track and field, but I’ve always had a stronger impression that Jota never planned to stay on in running after the ekiden, from what I had interpreted from his thoughts about his brother, as well as his conversation with Yohei before the run. Also, in the novel’s epilogue, a junior from the Kansei track and field team had only mentioned about “Joji-senpai”, but not Jota. While it doesn’t prove anything, it really does make me wonder if perhaps it was because Jota had chosen to move on from running. I never believe it’s a sad thing for them to divert on different paths though, because siblings are like that and their bond is strong.

Kakeru had been visiting Haiji in hospital daily after class since his operation, but by autumn, Haiji announced he was moving back to his hometown to recuperate, and his contact with Haiji naturally became less frequent. (Kakeru wondered if Haiji was deliberately avoiding him but he never asked. Knowing Haiji’s character, he’s not going to be honest about it anyway. Also, Kakeru was not good with texting or calling, a weakness he suspects Haiji knew and used it to put some distance between them). Kakeru felt hurt that there was nothing more he could do for Haiji, but chose to respect his decision for some space.
In response, Kakeru ran in Haiji’s section (Section 10) in the next ekiden, besting his own time from Section 9 and breaking records that were previously set. He believed that Haiji would not be able to resist watching the ekiden (because he knew Haiji’s weakness too), and that was his answer. His efforts to reach out finally paid off (Haiji sent him a very long text message scolding him for a minor flub he did in his run… but also “congratulations”.) Kakeru would continue to run in Section 10 for the remaining two ekidens, and on his final year, Haiji appeared out of the blue again, this time in person to recruit him into his running team.
Kakeru took over as vice-captain of the Kansei U track and field team from the second year, and later as captain after Shindo graduated. Since he’s been on the team, Kansei U has never failed to earn a seed in the ekiden for subsequent years, a legacy that would carry on long after Kakeru’s graduation.
Tumblr media
Haiji had to be rushed to surgery after the ekiden, and as expected, his injury had been aggravated and the damage was severe. A knee replacement surgery had to be done, and the year would prove to be a painful time for Haiji, who had to re-learn to walk all over again. In autumn that same year, he decided to move back to his hometown, citing family reasons (in truth, it was also because Kakeru wouldn’t stop visiting him in hospital, and it really was harder to be around Kakeru at this point in time than his family, so he picked the lesser of two evils).
Haiji would spend the next few months coming to terms with his situation while thinking about where to go from there. There were days where his mind wandered a bit too dangerously far, but his determination not to go back down that same path before manages to pull him back. Between his physiotherapy sessions, Haiji would often stop by his alama mater and watch his dad at work, lost in his own thoughts. And when he saw Kakeru running in the ekiden on TV again, his heart began to stir, as if a gust of wind had lifted his spirit and was pushing him towards the answer he was looking for.
He had found his second wind.
Haiji talked his father into letting him go back to school…. this time to pursue a sports degree (while their father-son relationship remained fairly complicated, the dad was more receptive to Haiji’s request since it’s to do with running, and Haiji was smart enough to leverage on his dad’s knowledge and connections to his advantage). His dad managed to pull a few strings and got Haiji enrolled into Rikudo (!!!) for a post graduate course, and Haiji moved back to Tokyo and threw himself into studying while nursing himself back to health. At the reunion timeline, he is armed with a sports coaching master’s degree, and has joined a relatively new corporation that hired him to set up a new running team. And Haiji knows exactly who he plans to recruit as soon as that person graduates.

Thank you for reading all the way and may your day be filled with wonderful thoughts!

Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Time, TV, streaming, betting odds for Premier League match
Tumblr media
There’s nothing like a Premier League rivalry match with massive stakes. That’s what fans will be treated to when Manchester United hosts Liverpool on Matchday 9 of the English Premier League season at Old Trafford.
The result will carry significant implications in the battle for the title, even with 29 matches left to go in the season. Manchester United (6th, 14 points) needs a win to stay within reach of Liverpool (2nd, 18 points) and league leaders Chelsea (1st, 22 points).
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure to deliver trophies this year and a recent spell of three winless matches in league play (0-2-1, 1 point) along with an early elimination in the Carabao Cup has only added to the scrutiny. In contrast, Liverpool has been flying to start the season, still undefeated after 12 matches in all competitions. That’s not all: Jurgen Klopp’s side was the highest scoring side in the Premier League entering Matchday 9, with two or more goals in 11 of the 12 games.
MORE: Manchester United season schedule & highlights
Both teams are coming off unconvincing group stage wins in the UEFA Champions League in midweek and their stars turned out to be the heroes. Cristiano Ronaldo came up with another big goal against Atalanta to rescue Manchester United — who knows where they’d be without the 36-year-old’s six goals in eight matches — while Mohamed Salah is on a club-record run of nine straight matches with a goal after netting twice against Atletico Madrid.
How to watch Manchester United vs. Liverpool
Date: Sunday, Oct. 24
Time: 11:30 a.m. ET
TV Channel: NBCSN
Spanish-language TV: Telemundo
Streaming: fuboTV
The match will air live in English and Spanish in the USA. NBCSN (English) and Telemundo (Spanish) will air the game and both channels are available to stream on fuboTV.

Manchester United vs. Liverpool lineups
Liverpool could be getting a Manchester United team missing several influential pieces. Red Devils star center back Raphael Varane is still out (groin), Bruno Fernandes and Fred are doubtful (undisclosed knocks), and it’s unclear whether Marcus Rashford will be ready after coming off the field in midweek with what his coach called a ‘dead leg.’
Manchester United projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): 1-David de Gea-GK — 29-Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 2-Victor Lindelof, 5-Harry Maguire (c), 23-Luke Shaw — 6-Paul Pogba, 39-Scott McTominay — 11-Mason Greenwood, 18-Bruno Fernandes, 10-Marcus Rashford — 7-Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United projected subs: 26-Dean Henderson-GK, 27-Alex Telles, 3-Eric Bailly, 20-Diogo Dalot, 34-Donny van de Beek, 31-Nemanja Matic, 17-Fred, 14-Jesse Lingard, 8-Juan Mata, 25-Jadon Sancho, 21-Edinson Cavani, 9-Anthony Martial
Liverpool looks to only be missing Harvey Elliott (ankle) and Thiago Alcantara (calf), though the Reds are likely to see the return of Curtis Jones, who has played well for them in recent matches.
Liverpool projected starting lineup (4-3-3 left to right): 1-Alisson — 26-Andrew Robertson, 4-Virgil Van Dijk, 32-Joel Matip, 66-Trent Alexander-Arnold — 17-Curtis Jones, 3-Fabinho, 14-Jordan Henderson — 10-Sadio Mane, 20 Diogo Jota, 11 Mohamed Salah
Liverpool projected subs: 62-Caoimhin Kelleher, 5-Ibrahima Konate, 21-Konstantinos Tsimikas, 12-Joe Gomez, 76-Neco Williams, 7-James Milner, 15-Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 8-Naby Keita, 18-Takumi Minamino, 9-Roberto Firmino
Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Betting odds & prediction
Odds courtesy of DraftKings
Pick: Liverpool over 5.5 shots on target -115
Picking a side is tricky in this spot. Liverpool is clearly the better side at the moment, but Man United is known to come up with great performances when the Red Devils have their backs to the wall. So playing a team prop is the alternative chosen here.
Entering Matchday 9, Liverpool has scored the most goals and generated the most shots on goal of any team in the Premier League and it’s no surprise why: In addition to Salah, its attacking players have been in strong form. They will face a Man United team that has allowed the 10th most shots on target in the league (34) with the third highest shots on target percentage allowed (34.7 %), per FBref.
MORE: Wild finish in Man United vs. Atalanta match
In the 12 matches played across all competitions, Liverpool has only failed to get six or more shots on goal on five occasions. Two of those came against Norwich City and the other three happened in the most evenly contested matchups of the season: at Brentford (4), vs. Manchester City (3) and at Atletico Madrid (5).
Given how porous Man United has shown itself to be — only one shutout in 12 matches — and especially without its top defensive signing Raphael Varane, the over 5.5 shots on target for Liverpool at -115 makes for an interesting play.
Prediction: Manchester United 1, Liverpool 2
Moneyline: Manchester United +205 / Draw +265 / Liverpool +125
Spread: Manchester United +0.5 (-145) / Liverpool -0.5 (+130)
O/U 2.5 total goals: Over -185 / Under +145
Both Teams To Score: Yes -225 / No +170

The Top % Owned Players you don't need in FPL.
It's GW8 in FPL and I am going to go through the Top 10 % Owned Players on FPL, and explain what players from this list you don't need.
At the top of the list is the Egyptian King Mo Salah (KEEP)
2nd place its Ronaldo. He didn't start in GW7 against Everton, is he now a rotation risk like Jota? There is 3 tough games coming up for Man Utd over the next 6 GW's - Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea. But 3 favourable games where Ronaldo could score - Leicester, Spurs and Watford. So I think there is better options out there in the forward line. (SELL)
In 3rd place, we have Antonio. West Ham have Everton, Spurs, Villa, Liverpool, Wolves and Man City over the next 6 GW's. You could argue he's not going to score in 3 or 4 of these fixtures. (SELL)
In 4th place its Lukaku, Chelsea have a great run. (KEEP)
5th place Benrahama, as we have already mentioned West Ham, I do think there is better options out there(SELL)
We are more than half way through this analysis now. In 6th place its Dias, you should all know about Pep Roulette by now. But Dias has played every minute of every game in the PL this season. Its Burnley, Brighton, Palace, Man Utd, Everton and West Ham over the next 6 GW's for City. I expect clean sheets. (KEEP)
In 7th place we have Luke Shaw, he had a terrific Euro's campaign with England and I think he was the most popular owned player at the start of FPL? I didn't have him as he looked slow and picked up needless yellow cards for Man Utd last season. I have already went through Man Utds next 6 fixtures, but let's go over them again from the defensive aspect - Vardy, Salah, Son, Man City, Sarr, LUKAKU. Shaw is my biggest tip to part ways with just now, so it's a (MASSIVE SELL)
8th place it's Fernandes, also a (BIG SELL)
9th place it's Alonso, it looks like Chilwell is back for Chelsea and is taking all the corners so it's a (SELL) and a simple swap to either Rudigier or Chilwell here.
And finally in 10th place we have Sanchez. Next for Brighton is Norwich, Man City, Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa, Leeds. So you could get some clean sheets here? But I think there is better options out there, how about Mendy or Sa?

Klopp Threatens To Withdraw Liverpool Players From World Cup Qualifiers

Klopp Threatens To Withdraw Liverpool Players From World Cup Qualifiers
Tumblr media
Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp has taken steps to pull out players from global matches this month if there is an opportunity they should isolate on their return under Covid rules.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Appearances in Britain from “Red List” nations are dependent upon 10 days’ inn constrainment, which would apply to Brazilian threesome Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho and Portugal forward Diogo Jota.
World overseeing body FIFA has given clubs administration to forestall players who might be influenced by the guidelines from getting together with their nations for the matches, which incorporate World Cup qualifiers.
Also, Klopp completely means to apply it, saying: “I think all the clubs concur that with similar issues we can’t simply release the young men and afterward sort the circumstance when they return by setting our major parts in a 10-day isolate in a lodging, it is simply unrealistic.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“I comprehend the requirements of the various FAs (football affiliations) however this is a period where we can’t make everybody glad and we need to concede the players are paid by the clubs so it implies we must be primary goal.”
Alisson is set to get back to the side for the visit of Chelsea on Thursday subsequent to missing the success at Sheffield United as he was grieving the demise of his dad in a swimming mishap in Brazil, while Fabinho could likewise get back to an exhausted guard after four games out through injury.
6th put Liverpool, who are one point behind Chelsea in the race for top-four spots, have not succeeded at home since mid-December as their title protection has imploded.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Chelsea are as yet unbeaten under new supervisor Thomas Tuchel and Klopp knows about the size of the assignment confronting his side.
Tuchel was Klopp’s replacement at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund and there is a lot of reverence between the German mentors.
“We’ve known each other for quite a while, he worked for Mainz as I did, he worked for Dortmund as I did, so a many individuals we know are the equivalent,” said Klopp.
“I think he is an exceptional mentor and it will be interesting to play his group, similar to it generally was.”
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Tuchel portrayed his comrade as “in every case overly entertaining and incredibly, intriguing” yet the two men will be focused at work nearby of meeting all requirements for next season’s Champions League by means of a best four completion.
“Seven days prior we were out now we’re around it once more,” said Klopp after Liverpool exploited dropped focuses by Chelsea and West Ham a weekend ago to return to winning ways at Sheffield United. “The test and occupation is clear. We need to dominate matches and whatever number as could be allowed to make it. We realize that.”

Top-4 Race: Champions League, Europa League Winners Impact
Tumblr media
England's top-four race is anything but straightforward as the Premier League season winds down. Four teams remain within touching distance of each other entering midweek slate of action after which all sides will have played 35 games and have just three matches to go. The muddled mess isn't limited to just table congestion, though. There's the matter of the outside factors still in play that could determine who is playing in European competition next season and who will either miss out entirely–or even have to drop down to the Europa League level. With the Champions League and Europa League winners automatically being guaranteed berths in next season's Champions League group stage and English teams remaining alive in both competitions' semifinals, chaos could reign supreme. Leagues can only place a maximum of five teams in a following season's Champions League–the top four finishers and any UCL or UEL winner that finishes fifth or lower. With Man City and Liverpool guaranteed top-two finishes and the other places in the top four set to go to two of Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, there are some intriguing possibilities down the line. There are three key scenarios that could play out and might alter calculus that is otherwise straightforward for next season's Champions League qualification: What if Liverpool or Tottenham win the Champions League? Liverpool will either win the Premier League or finish in second, so it's going to be in the Champions League next season no matter what. Since that's the case, the Reds potentially winning Champions League this season wouldn't increase the Premier League's number of entrants, under current UEFA rules. The extra berth (since Liverpool would double up on automatic bids through the league and UCL routes) would instead go to the winner of UEFA's 11th-ranked league–which would be Austria's Red Bull Salzburg, under the guidance of incoming American manager Jesse Marsch. If Tottenham finishes in the top four and wins the Champions League, it would result in the same scenario. However, if Tottenham finishes outside the top four and wins the Champions League, the Premier League would put five teams in next season's competition–Spurs, plus the top four. With the Premier League season finishing before the Champions League final, there's a situation in which Tottenham could find itself in a position of needing to win the Champions League just to secure a place in next season's competition. Liverpool is set to face Barcelona in the UCL semifinals, while Tottenham will go head-to-head with Ajax for places in the June 1 final in Madrid.
Tumblr media
What if Arsenal or Chelsea win the Europa League? For this question, presume that neither Liverpool nor Tottenham wins Champions League but one of Arsenal or Chelsea lifts the Europa League trophy. If that is the case and the winner also finishes in the top four in England, then the Premier League will not get an extra Champions League berth, with the added opening among the automatic group-stage qualifiers instead going to France's third-place finisher (with Ligue 1 being the fifth-ranked league in Europe), according to UEFA. That was the case last season, when Atletico Madrid finished in Spain's top four and won the UEL title. If either Arsenal or Chelsea wins the Europa League and does not finish in the top four in England, then the Premier League will get a fifth Champions League entrant. Arsenal will face Valencia in the UEL semifinals, while Chelsea goes up against Eintracht Frankfurt. What if Liverpool or Tottenham wins Champions League AND Arsenal or Chelsea wins Europa League? Here's where things can get a little crazy–and a top-four finisher in England could wind up missing out on the Champions League.  That wouldn't be the case of Liverpool wins the Champions League title, given it would keep the Premier League at its maximum of five UCL entrants. But say Tottenham wins Champions League and either Arsenal or Chelsea wins Europa League, yet both miss out on the top four in England–a scenario that remains in play. Since the Premier League can't exceed five teams in the Champions League, that would mean the fourth-placed finisher would be dealt the misfortune of being dumped into the Europa League. England's fourth-placed team has missed out on the Champions League before, albeit under different circumstances. When Chelsea won the Champions League title in 2012 but finished outside the top four in England, it was Tottenham that suffered the consequences, failing to reach the UCL the next season under UEFA's rules, which have since changed. Spurs would surely have no problem returning the favor, should the situation arise. Fifth-placed Arsenal can "recover" and secure a top-four finish in the Premier League despite losing their past two matches, says Gunners boss Unai Emery. Goals from Ruben Neves, Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota helped Wolves to a 3-1 win over Arsenal, who scored a late consolation via Sokratis' header. It was their second loss in four days after losing 3-2 to Crystal Palace. "We lost from our hands the opportunity for fourth, but we can also recover this opportunity," said the Spaniard. With three league games remaining, Arsenal are four points behind north London rivals Tottenham in third and have one point fewer than Chelsea in fourth. Emery's team are also in the semi-finals of the Europa League and will qualify for the Champions League if they win that tournament. However if they do not, they will have to finish in the top four in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence. "We have lost in the last two matches, to Crystal Palace and here, but the last three matches we play in the Premier League we have opportunities. "Generally we are disappointed but we need to look at all the season. We need to prepare as best as possible for Leicester. Again it is very difficult but hopefully we can take something." After playing at Leicester on 29 April, Arsenal are at home against Brighton on 4 May and end their season at Burnley. Read the full article

ARRL Announces “Happy 150!” Hiram Percy Maxim Birthday Celebration
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of ARRL’s first president and cofounder Hiram Percy Maxim (HPM), W1AW, born on September 2, 1869. ARRL will hold an operating event this summer to celebrate HPM’s legacy from 0000 UTC on August 31 and continue until 2359 UTC on September 8. It is open to all radio amateurs.
The event goal is straightforward: Contact as many participating stations as possible. W1AW and all ARRL members will append “/150” to their call signs during this event (DX operators who are ARRL members may operate as <call sign>/150, if permitted by their country of license.) Participating stations will exchange a signal report and their ARRL/RAC Section. DX stations will send a signal report and “DX.” Those taking part may use all Amateur Radio bands, excluding 60, 30, 17, and 12 meters.
The event will recognize three mode groups: CW, phone (any voice modes), and digital. Submit Cabrillo log files. ARRL will calculate all final scores based on participant uploads to the ARRL event web app (link not yet active).
There are 84 multipliers, which only count once. These include the 83 ARRL/RAC Sections (RAC sections include the Canadian Northern Territories, encompassing VE8, VY1, and VY0), and DX. The W1AW operating schedule during this period may be adjusted as necessary to accommodate on-air celebration operating activities. Contacts with W1AW/150 will earn 3 points apiece. Contacts with any ARRL member will earn 2 points each. These stations will also identify as <call sign>/150. Contacts with nonmembers will earn 1 point each.
Participants can earn 150 bonus points by:
Contacting W1AW/150 on each band and mode.
Uploading entries (ARRL members only).
Using social media to publicize this event and/or participation before, during, and/or after the event.
Operating with 5 W PEP output or less throughout the event.
Making at least 20 contacts while operating portable.
Completing at least 150 contacts.
Online certificates will be awarded, and available via download only. Updates and results will be publicized.
This event has no power or operator categories. Participating ARRL members who use Logbook of The World (LoTW) are encouraged to create a separate LoTW certificate for uploading <call sign>/150 contacts. Members should upload their logs for this event using their /150 certificate. This event requires online web app submissions. No email or paper submissions will be accepted.
