Lack of political will and strategy
By H.L. Shishoo Kashmir has emotional significance for every Indian, almost generating infectious enthusiasm, even if it reminds him of India’s political, diplomatic and military incapacity. When the State acceded with Indian Union, the nation was recovering from the wounds of partition and for the great majority of people at that time Kashmir had literally no significance. During the last six…

ICMEI Tour to Kashmir Inspires Integration of Rich Cultural Experiences into AAFT’s Academic Curriculum
Tumblr media
Srinagar: The recent visit to Kashmir by members of ICMEI (International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry) has sparked a transformative decision to incorporate the enchanting destination into the academic curriculum of AAFT (Asian Academy of Film and Television). This strategic initiative is poised to offer students a comprehensive and immersive learning experience in the dynamic fields of hospitality, tourism, cinema, still photography, and mass communication, drawing upon the unparalleled beauty and cultural richness of Kashmir.
Under the leadership of Dr. Sandeep Marwah, President of AAFT University, the successful tour covered pivotal locations such as Srinagar, the capital of the state, Pahalgam, Chandanwari, and Gulmarg. Dr. Marwah conveyed his enthusiasm for the abundant learning opportunities that Kashmir presents to students, emphasizing the need for a curriculum that extends beyond the traditional classroom setting.
“The picturesque landscapes and diverse cultural experiences in Kashmir have uncovered a myriad of untapped narratives for our students,” expressed Dr. Sandeep Marwah. “Our educational journey to Kashmir is designed to be more than just a tour; it is a holistic experience that enriches our students and broadens their perspectives.”
Dr. Marwah underscored the potential for AAFT students of Mass Communication and Journalism to discover compelling stories through engaging with the local Kashmiri population. The untouched areas by filmmakers and still photographers present a unique canvas for creative exploration and storytelling, providing a valuable platform for students to hone their skills.
The tour also shed light on the burgeoning demand for skilled professionals in Kashmir’s thriving hospitality industry. Visits to renowned establishments such as Hotel Pahalgam, ITC Pike and Peak, and Lalit Hotel in Srinagar revealed a keen interest in recruiting well-trained manpower from educational institutions like AAFT.
As AAFT University expands its horizons to encompass the captivating allure of Kashmir in its academic syllabus, students can anticipate an educational journey that seamlessly integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiences. This initiative aims to mold students into not only proficient but also culturally sensitive professionals in the fields of hospitality, tourism, cinema, still photography, and mass communication.

Like all intimidating women, Begum Samru too was once branded a witch. In the 18th-century, it was one way to explain the power emanating from this slight, pale Kashmiri nautch girl who commanded an army of deadly mercenaries and ruled a kingdom in present-day Uttar Pradesh. Farzana Zeb un-Nissa was a teenager eking out a living in one of Delhi’s red-light districts in the late-1760s when she met Walter Reinhardt Sombre aka Samru. She made a quick study and soon rose in the esteem of her partner’s army of renegade fighters. When Samru died, his Begum became the supreme commander and under her leadership, the army won decisive victories against the British and Sikhs. She also took over as the ruler of Sardhana, a kingdom awarded to her partner by Shah Alam II. Begum Samru’s haveli in Chandni Chowk was once a pleasure palace complete with fountains, gardens, classical Greek columns and dramatic, sweeping stairways. It’s a sadly reduced spectacle today. After the Begum’s death, the haveli was bought by Lala Bhagirath Mal whose family lived there till the early 1970s. From there the structure slid steadily into a state of disrepair. Most modern Delhiites wouldn’t know that their go-to destination for cheap electronics, Bhagirath Market, was once the fantastical abode of a queen. Sarmaya

                      Jawaharlal Nehru
Jawaharlal Nehru, a prominent figure in Indian history, was a statesman, visionary leader, and the first Prime Minister of India. His legacy extends beyond his political career, encompassing his role in the struggle for India's independence and his commitment to building a modern, democratic, and secular nation. In around 600 words, we can explore his life, political contributions, and his lasting impact on India.
Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, into a wealthy and influential family. His father, Motilal Nehru, was a prominent lawyer, and his mother, Swarup Rani, came from a Kashmiri Brahmin family. Nehru's privileged upbringing exposed him to intellectual and political ideas from a young age. He was educated in prestigious institutions in India and later at Harrow and Cambridge in England.
Nehru's political awakening began in the early 20th century, when he was exposed to the nationalist fervor sweeping across India. Influenced by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, he joined the Indian National Congress and soon emerged as a prominent leader in the struggle for independence from British colonial rule. He was deeply committed to the principles of nonviolence and civil disobedience advocated by Gandhi.
One of Nehru's defining moments came during the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement, where he faced imprisonment alongside other leaders. His eloquence, commitment, and leadership skills made him a respected figure within the Congress party and earned him the moniker "Pandit Nehru."
As India moved closer to independence, the question of its political future became paramount. Nehru was a staunch advocate of a democratic and secular India. He played a crucial role in shaping the vision of an independent India as a sovereign republic. When India finally gained independence on August 15, 1947, Nehru became the nation's first Prime Minister.
Nehru's leadership in the early years of independent India was marked by a focus on nation-building. He believed in a mixed economy, combining elements of socialism and capitalism, to reduce poverty and inequality. He also initiated significant land reforms and invested in education, science, and technology, setting the stage for India's future economic development.
One of Nehru's most significant contributions was his role in drafting the Indian Constitution. As the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly's drafting committee, he played a pivotal role in creating a modern, democratic, and secular constitution that guaranteed fundamental rights and freedoms to all citizens, regardless of their background.
Nehru's foreign policy was characterized by a commitment to non-alignment during the Cold War. He aimed to keep India free from the entanglements of superpower politics. His diplomatic efforts helped India gain international recognition and build relationships with countries around the world.
However, Nehru faced many challenges during his tenure as Prime Minister. The partition of India in 1947 had led to the violent and traumatic separation of India and Pakistan, a deeply painful chapter in the subcontinent's history. He also grappled with issues related to border conflicts, particularly with China.
Nehru's approach to these challenges was often criticized, but he remained dedicated to his vision of a united, democratic, and secular India. He emphasized the importance of social justice, women's rights, and inclusive development. His policies contributed to the development of key institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
Jawaharlal Nehru's leadership and vision left an indelible mark on India. He was not just a political leader but also a prolific writer and thinker. His book "The Discovery of India" is a classic that explores the country's rich history and cultural diversity. His commitment to democracy and secularism set the tone for India's identity as a diverse and pluralistic nation.
Nehru's tenure as Prime Minister lasted until his death on May 27, 1964. His daughter, Indira Gandhi, would go on to become Prime Minister, continuing his family's legacy in Indian politics. The Nehru-Gandhi family remained influential in Indian politics for several decades.
In conclusion, Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy is deeply intertwined with India's modern history. His leadership during the struggle for independence, his commitment to democracy, and his role in shaping India's political, economic, and foreign policies have left an enduring impact. He is often remembered as the "architect of modern India," and his vision of a united, democratic, and inclusive nation continues to guide India's path in the 21st century

Odia Book By Krupasindhu Biswal Paika Bidroha 1817
The Britishers under Lord Clive laid the foundation stone of the British Raj in India in the month of April, 1757. Lord Clive's army of some four thousand and odd men overpowered the mighty force of 57000, led by Shiraj Ud-dawla, a young lad of 17. It was because, nature conspired against him along with his hostile general Mir Zafar. A sudden torrential rain had spoiled his explosives, on the eve of that war. Otherwise the 5000 strong loyal Kashmiri soldiers under General Shohanlal could have wrested victory from the hands of the Britishers notwithstanding Mir Zafar's non-co-operation.
The English took over Orissa from the Marhattas in 1803, although the foundation stone for British Rule was laid in 1757 in the neighboring province of Bengal. The Marhattas were no lesser blood-suckers under whose dominion, Orissa's economy crumbled. Plunder by the horse-trottingMarhattas, over and above the "chouth" - the practice of collecting a quarter of the possible income of the cultivable land (notwithstanding constant crop failures due to floods or droughts), crushed the Oriya soul to such an extent that his daily search for a hard-to-get morsel of rice made him to wear a permanent expression of sorrow and despair in his face. Passing of Orissa from the Marhattas to the hands of the English had no reaction in the public mind - who were the leas.
The armed revolt of the Paiks under the leadership of Bakshi Jagabandhu Vidyadhar Bhramarbara Ray Mahapatra in the last of march 1817 was a remarkable chapter in the history of modern Odisha. This movement of the Paiks of Khurda which gradually spread to some parts of the district of Puri and Cuttack was of great magnitude as it exposed the defective colonial pattern of administration in the first two decades of the 19 th century A.D. in Odisha. During two hundred years from the actual date of the revolt of the Paiks the historians of Odisha and beyond have evaluated its nature and progress from different persepectives. Hence it would be proper now to revisit the phase of Khurdha Paik movement and assess its significance through the trajectory of opinions on it.

Good Evening,The Muslim participants felt the pandits were in denil of the struggle of the Muslims in the valley, who were facing violence from the system. The Kashmiri Muslim was always portrayed as being misguided, aided and abetted by Pakistan. The protest in Kashmir was not aganist religion, but aganist structures of power and oppression, pandits were aggrieved that the Muslims did not protest the pandit killings ,nit even when the killers claimed them. That great responsibility lay with the muslims as they were the majority. This issue of "apology"was also discussed .one kasmir Muslim said the violence perpetrated on pandits was committed by people not chosen by him to represent the kashmiri case .why should he apologized for the crime of others?Other Muslim participants jumped in to say an apology was appropriate to acknowledge the failure of civil society to avert the exodus of the pandits from the valley. This failure was one of the most difficult conversations in the dialogue. And this question remains must relevant to the situation of the kasmir in 2022.One Muslim participants forcefully said civil society had failed them.aknowleged his personal failure in the matter, and said kashmiri had to pay a Hervey price for this subsequently. If some social organisations had acted quickly, the exodus could have been stoped .He also could have been stopped. He also reassured the pandits that hey we're not alone anymore. This had the effect of changing the atmosphere in the room immediately. A respected Kashmiri pandits public intellectual observed that the pandit community too had suffered from a lack of leadership. At the time , senior political and intellectual figure in the community shuld have met and taken stock of the situation, and reached out to leading figures in the Muslim community. If this had happened, the exodus could have been prevented.second ,even after migration,a good leadership might have prevailed upon members of the community not to sell their properties in the valley in a hurry.... countinue (at Mumbai, Maharastra) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkBem-Uy1tD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
