#On the Wings of Love - Casip
Text
The Rain, Rain, Rain Came Down, Down, Down
‘I don’t like the looks of that sky.’ Castiel grumbled as he pulled the collar of his trenchcoat up around his face. Black clouds loomed overhead, looking heavy and threatening. The branches at the very tops of the trees in the forest bent in the wind that was beginning to pick up.
Flip turned to smile at him over her shoulder as she fluttered just slightly ahead of him. ‘You worry too much, Poindexter. It isn’t much further now, and its the perfect spot for a picnic. You’ll see.’ The Fairy’s tone was full of affection, her light shimmering brightly in the gathering gloom as she led the Angel on to the destination she had in mind for their date.
Cas tried not to grumble as he trailed along behind his love, shifting the picnic basket she had packed from one hand to the other. He’d watched, fascinated, as she’d loaded it with warm, crusty bread, fragrant sharp cheddar, grapes, canapés, and a bottle of Malbec. All the ingredients for a romantic picnic in a forest glade where they could escape from the demands of their callings, if only for a little while. ‘Did you pack the vial?’ He meant the one that she gave him so that he could partake of the food and enjoy it, without tasting the individual molecules.
‘Don’t I always?’ She fluttered back to toss an acorn at his ear, laughing all the while.
He wasn’t trained in combat for nothing, so he was able to reach out and grab the projectile as a matter of reflex, without even giving it conscious thought. But when she wasn’t looking, he slipped it into an inner pocket of his coat where he kept all such little mementos: a napkin from the restaurant that they’d attended with their friends Jilomena and the Metatron that comprised their first date, the Valentine’s card she’d given him, and now a little souvenir from their picnic.
Heightened senses detected a drop of moisture falling from the sky, but he chose not to comment on it. ‘Are we much further?’ he asked instead.
‘Nope. We’re here.’ She led him through a gap in the trees. Suddenly, they were standing in a clearing perhaps only some twenty or thirty feet in diameter, completely surrounded by a ring of trees. A fairy ring, some might say, and they would be correct. The branches of the surrounding trees seemed to touch, forming a canopy at the edges, though the middle was completely open to the sky. A perfect place for a couple to have some privacy: to cuddle on a blanket and feed each other treats, to be outdoors in the fresh air and yet to be as excluded as to feel that they were the earth’s last inhabitants, and to get lost in each other’s eyes.
‘Good.’ He put the picnic basket down and looked at her, waiting for some indication as to how one should behave on a romantic outing.
Flip instantly grew up to her full size, so that their heights were matched. The better to kiss him with, of course. She stepped close, tilting her head and leaning towards him as if going in for such a kiss, but stopping just short. Instead, she walked around him slowly, trailing a fingertip along his chest and shoulders, skirting over the wings only she could see as she circled him teasingly.
Cas frowned with confusion - what was she doing?! His eyes followed her as best he could as she walked around him, turning his head this way and that to follow the path she was taking. It was clear as he watched her that he was pining, pining for the beautiful woman that was circling him as if he were a sort of prey. And just when he thought that he could stand it no more, she finally brought her lips to his.
The heavens opened.
He was so involved in the kiss that he forgot to say, I told you so. The deluge was such that they couldn’t ignore it for long, as within seconds they were both soaked to the skin.
‘Nuts,’ Flip muttered. ‘There goes our picnic. I suppose we’d better get home and change into something warm and dry, ne?’ Cas merely nodded, still slightly befuddled from the taste of her. She quickly summoned up a portal, and before the Angel could react, she pushed him through to the other side.
The sound of a tinkling giggle and the faint jingling of wings met his ears as he passed through to the other side.
Soon they were standing in the living room of Flip’s London hideaway. A twirl of her wrist summoned up some fresh, dry clothes and fluffy white towels. ‘Here you go. I’ll turn my back and won’t look.’ She chuckled as she threw one of the towels at him, then turned away to sort herself out. ‘Well. What do you suppose we should do now?’ she enquired as she dried her hair with the towel.
‘We could always...listen to some music,’ Cas suggested slowly as he thought. ‘Maybe we could...have a dance? Something romantic. It would be good practice for the party that will follow the Bonding of Jilomena and the Metatron, so that I don’t embarrass myself.’
‘You hopeless romantic, you. You’ve been spending too much time around Jil.’ Flip pretended to tut as she looked over her shoulder at him, but she was only teasing.
‘It was a mere suggestion. I thought it might be a nice thing to do. We don’t have to dance.’ Cas was barely audible as he replied.
‘Oh, come here, Casserole.’ He looked slightly hurt, which she couldn’t bear to see. She held out her hands to him, inviting him to step forward and lead. ‘It’s been a hot minute since I had a good twirl ‘round the dance floor.’
The corner of his lips twitched into a slight smile as he stepped forward and took her hands in his. The Wireless on the table coughed itself into life, and they were away, moving in circles around Flip’s living room.
It wasn’t exactly the waltz or a tango, which their blonde witchy friend would have considered more suitable for a date night dance, but the moderate jive they settled into suited them just fine.
The smile on Castiel’s face slowly grew as he watched Flip’s hair flow outwards as she spun under his arm, her face alight with laughter and delight. Daringly, he pulled her closer, their bodies touching as they moved together.
‘You’re getting bolshy in your old age,’ Flip teased as she looked into her lover’s eyes.
Cas nodded, never looking away from her. ‘I’m only just getting started....’

Recipe for Change 2017 Culinary Night Benefits FoodShare
By Lory Diaz
Recipe for Change 2017, FoodShare‘s 8th annual fundraiser presented by Tangerine, took place on February 23, 2017 at the St. Lawrence Market’s south tent. Torontonicity was lucky enough to be invited again to smell, taste, and experience the delicious mouthfuls created by 30 local chefs, vintners, and brewers. It was a packed event as guests filled their bellies in support of the many food literacy and community programs FoodShare assists across Toronto.
Barque: Pommery pulled pork 3-bite sliders: If you haven’t been to either of Barque’s Roncesvalles locations, read here about my last visit with Food Nook Tours . You can read all about my love of their delicious 299 dry rub wings.
Porcelana chocolates from SOMA Chocolatemaker
Cynthia Leung and David Castellan of SOMA Chocolatemakers: they had three featured chocolates available to guests, with each more flavourful and decadent than the last: pomegranate molasses meltaway, Southbrook vineyard truffle, and their award-winning Porcelana made with 70% dark chocolate from Venezuela, that could easily pass for a milk chocolate. SOMA is always decadent, flavourful, and they never disappoint!
Chef Liu of Dailo was back with a vegetarian pumpkin dumpling: soy brown butter sauce, white rabbit candy glaze, an pepita crumble.
Serrano Ham Pincho from Barsa Taberna
If you haven’t checked out Barsa Taberna on Market Street, you can read about my visit here! Chef Andres Salomon started in May of last year and has made some serious changes to their menu. He brought Pinchos three ways: serrano ham with figs and almonds, whipped goat cheese with cucumber and (absolutely delicious and refreshing) pickled raisins, and chicken liver pate with pomegranate and pistachio.
The sisters from Sweet Carnival Cakes baked Callebaut (Belgian) chocolate ganache brownies with salted caramel drizzle and caramel corn crunch.
Monforte waffles from Monforte Dairy at Recipe for Change 2017
The cutest garden-like display serving up Monforte Dairy sheep cheese, with waffle cone, compressed root cellar apple and basil oil, as well as a simple spoonful of sheep cheese accompanied by flavoured salt meant to elevate the tasting experiencing.
The Art Gallery of Ontario’s FRANK chef, Renee Bellefeuille, created a colourful vegetarian poke bowl with sticky soy bean, chia seeds, pickled vegetables, miso-yuzu dressing and fried taro. This was one of the top dishes of the night for me, because of how vibrant, refreshing, and clean the flavours were. It was also nice to know that there were delicious vegetarian options available for guests.
The crowd enjoys the wide variety of food offerings at Recipe for Change 2017
Head sponsor, Tangerine, made these lighting boxes available so guests could take the perfect picture of their perfect bites. Everyone enjoyed using them!
Pai Northern Thai Kitchen: spicy grilled pork jowl salad: nice burst of flavour, slightly sweet, with great spice. Only downfall to the lettuce wrap approach is that it tended to fall apart, but with a napkin in hand the messiness was manageable.
The Pizzeria Libretto chef Rocco Agostino brought shrimp cappelletti with celeriac (also known as knob celery) broth!
Silent Auction items at Recipe for Change 2017
Aside from drinking and eating ‘til your hearts content, there is a silent auction that takes place throughout the night. Guests can bid on fantastic dining experiences, kitchenware, cosmetics, perfumes, and family-fun packages, knowing that their bids are supporting food literacy in Toronto. My favourite bidding item of the night was the Good Food Machine vertical gardening hydroponic system. FoodShare is working to ensure that informative workshops and resources are made available to the ten schools in Toronto that now have their very own hydroponic towers.
Hydroponic Tower from Good Food Machine
Gushi Chicken from Shinji Yamaguchi at Recipe for Change 2017
Shinji Yamaguchi’s Gushi (fried) chicken had guests coming back for seconds.
Another delicious vegetarian option from Loka’s chef Dae Mottershall: pan roasted mushrooms, truffled potato, and deer lichen. So delicate, beautiful, and delicious!
Passion fruit cream filled chouquettes from The Tempered Room
Bertrand Alepee of The Tempered Room had the loveliest passion fruit cream-filled chouquettes! The pastry itself was light and airy, allowing the strong and juicy flavours of the passion fruit to delight your entire mouth. This was summer in pastry form!
Propeller was serving up some smooth cups of coffee for guests, and I went for a classic latte.
Duck heart tocilog from Hawthorne Food and Drink
I can say, without a single doubt, that my number one pick of the night was Hawthorne Food and Drink’s chef, Ricky Casipe’s duck heart tocilog: duck heart tocino (Spanish bacon), soy cured yolk, puffed wild rice, with garlic chips. The puffed wild rice had a wonderful texture, and created such a fantastic bed for the nuanced flavours of the hearts. I’m excited to visit the restaurant and see what else chef Casipe has created.
Salt Fish Fritters from Bendale Business & Technical Institute
The Bendale Business & Technical Institute students were back with salt fish fritters and ackee spinach ragout. I found out that the greens used for the ragout were grown in the school garden! I spoke to the culinary arts teacher, Darren Beer, about the value and support FoodShare brings to schools by allowing students the opportunity to learn technical and life skills by seeing through the entire garden-to-plating process. This is another reminder that not only is Recipe for Change fun, delicious, and exciting, but also a great fundraiser for a great cause making a real difference. Please don’t hesitate to attend next year, and put some support behind this important cause!

Lovey Dovey OC Development Prompts - Flip/Castiel: Casip
@ask-flip-frost
(I still can’t believe you sent me every question for multiple verses! Ha.)
♥ (01) Is your OC in love? If so, with whom, and for how long? - Yes. Flip is in love with Castiel. They’ve been in love for, hmm. Not certain, but probably a good six months at least. They’d deny it, of course, but it doesn’t make it any less true!

♥ (02) Does another OC love your OC? If so, whom, and does your OC know? - Yes. Castiel is truly, madly, deeply in love with Flip. She knows full damn well, although she might try to deny the depth of her feelings.

♥ (03) Are there any romantic gestures that your OC loves? - Although she might scoff, Flip loves any gesture from Cas, however small they might seem to an outsider. She loves it when he knows that she’s having a bad day, so he lets her nap in his pocket so they can still be close to one another.

♥ (04) Are there any romantic gestures that your OC hates? - Flip isn’t one for big, public, ostentatious gestures. She prefers things that are small and from the heart.

♥ (05) What is the most romantic thing your OC has done for someone else? - Taking him stargazing when he was homesick so he could feel that bit closer to home.

♥ (06) What is the most romantic thing that has been done for your OC? - Cas enlisting the help of their friends so he could make their first Valentine’s day together up to what he thought her expectations of the day might be, and to enlist their help to get her a present that she would love.

♥ (07) How successful is your OC at flirting with others? - Good question. Flip isn’t really the overly flirtatious type. But she was dead on successful at landing Cas. He’s completely and utterly smitten.

♥ (08) What is your OC’s dream marriage proposal? - Cas will propose to her in front of their friends when they’re celebrating their friend’s wedding in Vegas. He’ll get carried away with the atmosphere and the excitement. Yes, really. This is going to be a thing....

♥ (09) What is your OC’s favorite small way to show their love? - Baking. Flip loves to make cookies and cakes and pies for Cas, and she makes sure he takes the serum so he can enjoy them properly.

♥ (10) What is your OC’s favorite big way to show their love? - Flip isnt the ‘big gesture’ sort. For her, it would be letting herself be vulnerable and actually saying those three little words: ‘Lemme smash you.’ I mean, ‘I love you.’

♥ (11) What do others love most about your OC? - What’s not to love? Flip is warm and funny and there’s hardly ever a dull moment when she’s around. Plus she’s got a big heart and there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for the people she cares about.

♥ (12) What do you love most about your OC? - At a guess, I’d say that the mun loves Flip because Flip has been a part of her for so many years. Although I suspect that Flip is the mun’s alter ego.

♥ (13) How does your OC show their love to those that are not their partner(s)? - By bedevilling them with mischief. Nipping of ears, nuzzling necks, hugs. All in a platonic way. Come to think of it, she does this to her partner too. He’s probably the brunt of her mischief more than anyone.

♥ (14) Does your OC have any romantic traditions? - I think they may have established one this year: fort building.

♥ (15) What is your OC’s favorite type of Valentine’s Day candy? - Probably those sickly sweet little candy hearts with the sayings that make your teeth hurt just to look at them because they’re so full of sugar.

♥ (16) What is your OC’s ideal first date? - Hmm. What was their first date? Going out to dinner with Jil and Met I think. So yes, that was definitely ideal. What’s NOT ideal about spending time with Jil and Met? I won’t hear otherwise.

♥ (17) Could your OC fall in love with someone they’ve never met in person? - Probably not. Love isn’t something Flip takes lightly and its something very much developed over time. She had to spend lots of time with Cas and the feelings just sort of followed on. Fate. Destiny.

♥ (18) Does your OC have a “type”? - Tall, dark, and angelic. Big wingspan. *raises eyebrows suggestively* Baby blues to die for.

♥ (19) How highly does your OC value love (platonic, romantic, or otherwise)? - Incredibly highly. She loves her friends, she loves her Cas. Its not a cheap commodity to her, she could never just bestow her feelings on absolutely anyone and everyone. They have to be special and earn her love through dedication and friendship, but once she loves you, she loves you.

♥ (20) How does your OC feel about public displays of affection? - She doesn’t mind little displays like hand holding or the odd hug. She might sit in his lap just in front of their close friends, but she would never dream of doing anything in public that would make passers-by mumble ‘Get a room!’

♥ (21) Does your OC believe in love at first sight? - I would say yes and no. If she likes you, that’s a good start. But it takes time for her to give her heart to someone.

♥ (22) How often does your OC read romantic literature? - All the time. Just to read passages aloud and fluster Cas.

♥ (23) What is your OC’s favorite nice thing to do for themselves? - A luxurious bubble bath that lasts for hours.

♥ (24) How does your OC determine that they’re attracted to someone? - Wings. No, I kid. I think its something in their soul that speaks to something in hers. Nice eyes and a good murder-look are just bonuses, really.

♥ (25) Does your OC believe in soulmates? - Absolutely, whether she admits it or not. Some things are meant to be.

♥ (26) Is your OC ever the first to say “I love you”? - Yes. Cas is about as observant as a brick when it comes to being flirted with or wiles of the erotic sort. This is meant in the nicest possible way, bless his innocent and oblivious little heart. He might THINK she has feelings for him, but he wouldn’t have known unless she spells it out and says ‘I love you’ first.

♥ (27) How does your OC typically spend their Valentine’s Day? - Shagging in a blanket fort, apparently.

♥ (28) What is something unconventional that your OC thinks is romantic? - Shagging in a blanket fort. No, I kid. I’m going to go with whatever it is that Cas wrote in her Valentine’s Day card. It probably was unique as far as love sentiments go.

♥ (29) What is your OC’s favorite love song? - ‘Let’s Get It On.’ No, ‘I Just Wanna Make Love to You.’ No, in all seriousness, I reckon its ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love.’

♥ (30) What is your OC’s favorite romantic movie? - The Exorcist. Yes, really, because when Cas is freaking out its a good excuse to cuddle close and that leads to Exorcist and Chill.
