how gay is hanging at picnic rock? like on the scale of heterosexual to black sails, just how gay is it?

it’s…pretty gay?! 🤔 much like black sails it has those ~two layers of gayness~, the first being that there are actual characters in the show who are explicitly not straight, and the second being the overarching Gay Storytelling™. neither of these things are explored in PaHR with the same depth and nuance as they are in BS, so the characterizations and relationships don’t feel as rich, but that’s mostly because the show is far far shorter. there is more that’s simply left in between the lines than there is in BS, but it’s certainly there.

if you go into it with super high expectations I think you might be disappointed. but I went in just expecting some sapphic vibes and was pleasantly surprised by what they actually delivered! it’s no black sails, as few shows are fjdslkfjksdlf but it gave me that similar feeling of “hey! this was written with me in mind! this show knows I exist!” which is always nice >:) if you do watch it, I hope you enjoy 💕
