I hope this doesn't sound too mean or anything, but I'm just genuinely curious. Tau is a very timid and anxious lion who fears fighting and aggression. Ekene is a very aggressive lioness who would rather fight than talk and gets excited at the idea of killing a hyena. So...why does Tau love her and vice versa?

Because Ekene isn't hyper aggressive, slaughtering hyenas that aren't there, and kicking over strangers sand castles on a constant basis. She also isn't the only lion in this comic who gets thrills out of killing hyenas simply for fun. Keep in mind that Ekene currently is being aggressive because she is a mother to a very young cub confronting a stranger on their territory after letting him off with a warning at first, a warning that in her mind Silver blatantly ignored, and that he could potentially harm her mate and try to kill the cubs. And if he is willing to ignore that warning, then he should die. And just because Ekene wants to turn Silver and Sahara into chalk outlines, doesn't mean she treats Tau like shit or intentionally tries to make him uncomfortable- or was even always this way before becoming a mom. He's a soft boy, she is a muscle woman- He respects her and likes her and the feeling is mutual.
