Macaque Origins Headcanon

When I'm playing Macaque, where he comes from might come up now and again so this is a headcanon ramble on my personal theory about edgy the hedgy- I mean monkey.

Macaque was born at the exact same time as Sun Wukong, but he wasn't conscious of his own existence for a good, long time. When Wukong's stone egg hatched, so too did the shadow of the rock cast against the mountain.

Macaque was there when Wukong learned the secret to the 72 Transformations, and he learned them alongside Wukong.

Macaque was there when Wukong ate all the immortal peaches, drank all the heavenly booze and stole the immortal pills.

Macaque was there, even as the hero's light grew. As so too did his shadow. No matter where the Monkey King went, his shadow followed him. Always at his heels, or at his back, no matter what. The shadow was a sixth-ear to everything the Monkey King ever learned.

And then one day the shadow decided he didn't want to be Monkey King's shadow any more. He wanted to be his own person. He wanted to be in the light with the hero he'd always been attached to since the very beginning.

And his wish came true.

Alas, like his reflection, he was also born with a Monkey's Paw.

His lips twitched, delight filling his chest from the look sent his way. The warrior giggled, not yet shifting from a silhouette to the physical world. "A grumpy one, I see," he hummed, the shadow across the wall stretching its arms over its head. "That's not too bad I suppose." The occupant inside his chest was slumbering for now, sated.

Joy, now he could have fun.

"I go by many names, you can select either Macaque or Lugu if you'd like."

He shifted up the wall, visage stretching across horizontally. "But that's not important for the moment. Are you lost, Spitfire?" He lifted a claw to tap at his chin, head tilting. "I mean, of course you are, you smell quite different than a normal occupant."

ANYWAY, this is old as heck...and I was going to wait till I had a Sun Wukong one to go along with it as well, since you know I shamelessly ship the three >w>;;; But, since I am too lazy right now to do that right now, you just get a solo Xiuying and Macaque being absolutely precious...’sides shadow monkey needs some love too UwU

Just got to help the beau dress an injury even if they got it covered themselves...the kiss is just a bonus~

I’ll have some more art later, since I do have a LOT of LMK doodles that I promised I would share on here. This one is the first I felt like posting tho, since I again I am a shipping whore and also self indulgent af.
