The last name Stachler comes from the name “Stach” which in turn comes from the SLAVIC surname “Stas”
Stas (and all it’s variations) come from four countries: Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia (back then Czechoslovakia)
Whatever Stas family immigrated from whatever Slavic country to Germany, the last name “Stas” became “Stach”
NOW. Stach is an occupational surname that has to do with shipbuilding (specifically the rope that secures a ships masts), meaning that Stas family was a family of shipbuilders or was associated with shipbuilding and the name then became associated with that job title
Like I said before, Stachler comes from Stach, so there’s a very high chance that the Stachler family in Kazeki was a family of shipbuilders.
BUT! Kurt doesn’t live in Germany or in a Slavic country, he lives in France. In the 1800s there were many different French ports, but the closest ports to where Lacombrade would’ve been was in Bordeaux, France, that is most likely where Kurt and his family is from. Dyle et Bacalan (1879–1936) or Forges et Chantiers de la Gironde (1800s–1948) were the two yards that fall into the time period Kazeki takes place so his father most likely worked at one of these two places while his son attended school at Lacombrade
IN CONCLUSION!!!! Kurt has at least ONE Slavic ancestor.
