Round of Randoms #2 - Sports
Tumblr media
The one with an oval ball, an orange ball, and a green ball.
So the first round of randoms has really flopped, at least till the moment where I'm writing this, but guess what? I'm not gonna stop them because I really need to watch different things. SUE ME. XD
This one came sooner than I thought and for this time it's all about sports anime! In real life, I don't mess with sports, I could care less about them. But for some weird reason, I like watching some sports anime here and there. This post will be kinda weird because all of these shows with the exception of one are still airing, so I guess this is less than a review and more like a first impressions thing. It's confusing, I know, but I needed an excuse to watch these shows so here I am.
Tsurune OVA
The first show I'm gonna talk about isn't actually a show, but an OVA/special of an anime I really liked. Tsurune was probably the last anime I saw (excluding precure, aikatsu, and prichan) before I started this blog and I really felt in love with it. It's a beautiful show, both visually and plot-wise and I really recommend everyone to check it out. This OVA wasn't on my radars because I rarely check OVAs of shows I've watched, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to see it and revisit the characters I liked so much without having to rewatch the whole show because that's something I don't have the time to do just now. XD

And I gotta say, I'm quite disappointed with this episode. Like, I wasn't expecting much, I just wanted a wholesome filler. What I got was a dude being the worst type of idol fan ever trying to be played as comedy, but all that it accomplished was letting me uncomfortable. I wish I had something positive to say about this whole thing, but I was really bored. I also don't understand why Masa-san was okay with training their rivals because this is one of the dumbest things ever. The analogy of being in love also doesn't work with me, and I think it didn't work with the other boys as well.
Yeah, this was a failure, but I don't regret seeing it, I'm glad I could get back to this world even if it was just for 24 minutes.

Try Knights
I've put Try Knights on my "to watch list" back in July when the Summer season was about to start, but I didn't really touch on it ever since. Back then I was interested in watching it because I know nothing about rugby and I was wanting to try something new.
When I saw the very low ratings on Crunchyroll I was both skeptical and scared, but I still came to this with an open mind, and I was enjoying it until the first half of the first episode. Though I think the majority of the low ratings are because the show is very poor in the technical department, they have some very ugly shots and the CGI is horrendous, I can't say that I disagree with the scores that were given because this show is very bad. The main characters are terrible, both of them are so arrogant it's not even fun to watch, the side characters have no life to them, and the story overall is just kinda weak. Maybe things get better after episode 5, that was where I decided to drop, but until the point where I watched, it wasn't that compelling.
Tumblr media
The first three episodes are dreadful, the constant bickering between the main characters is very bad, and they're completely noneffective while trying to pass their message. Like, in episode 2 Riku is trying to show Akira that strategy is important, but when they make the "face-off" that was supposed to give Akira a slap on his face he wins solely on his body strength anyway so there's no point being made here. I was thinking about dropping on Episode 3, that was the point where Riku and Akira's arrogance really made me angry, but they had a nice cliffhanger that made me want to continue watching, at least to see what would come out of that.
I had in mind that there were two possibilities for episode 4 (and 5), they would win and make the show completely boring, or they would lose badly and that would make a shift in their mindsets and make this show grow. Sadly they gave us the middle ground of that where they lost, but they were very good through-out the game so their spirits weren't shaken by the lost, which was very anticlimactic and it was the point where I said: "okay, I'm done, this show has nothing to me".

Ahiru no Sora
Ahiru no Sora is one of the new anime of this season, and while I was trying my best to stay away from the new stuff since I don't have time to follow any other weekly show I couldn't resist when I saw it because basketball is one of the few sports I'm genuinely interested in and that I could see myself being into IRL if I wasn't so lazy.
Tumblr media
And I don't regret picking this one up because I really liked it! The story didn't seem like anything special at first, after all a guy who's interested in a sport but technically couldn't play it because of his physics and has to come with something different to compensate for it isn't anything new, heck even Try Knights had that. But as simple as the premise is, the characters are captivating and the way the story progressed on these two episodes got me hooked instantly and already rooting for the main character, which is something very rare to happen with me. I was really invested in these and I barely saw the time passing, again it wasn't doing anything that was specifically new to me, but it was so well executed that I couldn't help but love it.
I do have a problem with Chiaki being a creep and this whole thing with him being a pervert, I know that is played as comedy but having peeping holes to look at the girls' locker room and trying to steal bras doesn't add anything to the story, at least to me, and it just grosses me out and this is a huge negative of the show to me. Thankfully this is flat out the only bad side of the show and for now, I think I can give it a pass so I'll definitely continue watching it.

Hoshiai no Sora
Last but not least, is Hoshiai no Sora. This is another show of this season and I thought it was very curious that they had two different shows with such similar names airing at the same time so I decided to pick it up just out of curiosity.
I didn't have any expectations coming to this one, but somehow I still came out of it very disappointed? XD It was very uninteresting, the characters were boring, and I couldn't really connect with anything during the 24 minutes of episode that felt more like 3 hours. There was a moment with a cute cat that I thought would make me stick with this show, but then they came up with this thing that because of the protagonists parents being divorced and he living with his working mom that he is poor and this is one of the reasons why he doesn't want to join the tennis club and it just got me rolling my eyes. And to add a cherry on top they've added an abusive father at the end that felt very out of place and VERY forced to make us sympathize with the protagonist and that was the moment when i draw the line and said "nope. not gonna do this anymore" and deleted the episode from my hard drive quicker than anything I've done before.
Tumblr media
And this concludes the second Round of Randoms, the balance for this one was a little worse than the last but I still had fun doing it. Because I'm not original I'm gonna repeat myself and ask, What did you think of it? Have you watched any of these shows? What are your opinions about it? Is there any show you have to recommend? Once again, thank you so so much for sticking with me until the end, and I’ll see you guys at another time.
