Vina Alberdi Rioja Reserva ~ Wine of the Day
From high elevations vineyards in Spain’s Rioja Alta, Vina Alberdi Rioja Reserva shines as a well-made, well-balanced wine from the region. Produced from 100% Tempranillo fruit grown in moisture holding calcerous-clay soils, the medium bodied, 14.5% alchol wine is ideal with anything from chicken and sausage paella to a roasted tenderloin of beef as there is enough acidity in the wine to balance…

2015 La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva is such a great wine for the money. Red cherry and boysenberry and dill pickle (from the American Oak) give this 100% Tempranillo a 1980s Silver Oak Napa vibe even though it is clearly not as lush and far more acidic. Some Vanilla on the finish is the punctuation to the quite lengthy finish. About $17 after case discounts from @theaustinwinemerchant makes this a silly good value. And I believe this will cellar nicely for well over a decade if you so desire. Case purchase material for sure. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKK2BrxFC2q/?igshid=1l7dh6lggc50n

Need a hand finding high quality-to-price ratio (QPR) wines? Here are four summertime suggestions. . La Rioja Alta, an iconic Spanish winery, produces the first two selections: (1) 2010 Gran Reserva 904 ($45€/$59 US); and (2) the La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva Tinto ($20). La Rioja Alta is a traditional producer whose wines consistently offer high QPR. While the 2010 Gran Reserva 904 is a bit over the $50 US range, it is well worth it! 2010 was one of the best vintages ever for this wine and it is really outstanding! This Tempranillo and Graciano blend has a rare combination of finesse and power! . For those who prefer a lower-cost wine, the La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva Tinto is a great choice at around $20 US! While this wine lacks the acclaim of the Gran Reserva 904, you can get 3 of these very enjoyable wines for the price of one 904! This wine is 100% Tempranillo and ready to enjoy immediately! . The Patricia Green Reserve Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon is also an excellent choice for a lighter-bodied red wine. The 2017 bottling is a great effort at this price point. I'm a huge fan of Willamette Pinot Noir and think very highly of this producer. It is a rare treat to be able to obtain a Pinot Noir of this quality for less than $25! . The Poggio al Tesoro Solosole Vermentino ($20) is an excellent white wine for summer! This delightful wine is dry, with tropical and citrus fruit aromatics and nice acidity. A very food friendly wine! While this wine will age well, it is so tasty now that I doubt you will have any left by the time that summer is over! . I very much enjoyed hearing from those of you who tried some of last month's suggestions! If you try any of my suggestions, please either tag me in the post or DM me to let me know your thoughts! . . . . #lariojaalta #tempranillo #patriciagreen #pinotnoir #pinot #willamettevalley #willamette #vermentino #poggioaltesoro #vino #vinotinto #winereview #winereviews #tastingnotes #valuewine #dallasblogger #wineblogger #attorneysomm #winetips #winelover (at Danang Golden Hand Bridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_QBpP4pV-K/?igshid=43s9arw0mywb

Today’s wine post is La Rioja Alta’s Vina Alberdi Reserva Tinto 2011 made from 100% Tempranillo. Vina Alberdi is a classic, tightly wound Rioja which males it a great food wine. It’s not a heavy wine and wakes up the palate due it’s racy acidity. Medium-bodied, cherry red, in color. Intense jammy notes of wild red berries, raspberries, red currants and herbs combined with vanilla, caramel and coffee notes. Vibrant with soft tannins and a strawberry finish. Always evolving quality, elegance, innovation, evolution, these are the pillars on which La Rioja Alta’s five founding families erected their winery in 1890. They believe in the pursuit of making wines of the highest quality which continue to slowly evolve and improve over time. Oak is at the core of the ageing process for La Rioja Alta and they manufacture their own barrels managing their cooperage using artisanal methods. La Rioja Alta continúes to draw from the best aspects of their winemaking traditions and combine it with the most modern winemaking technology. They make some incredible and distinct wines that have become part of the fabric of Spanish wine history and tradition. Highly regarded for distinctive and age-worthy red wines, Rioja is Spain’s most celebrated wine region. Made up of three different sub-regions of varying elevation: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. Rioja wines are typically a blend of grapes from all three areas but single-zone and single vineyard wines are becoming more popular. Rioja Alta is at the highest elevation and considered to have the best and most elegant fruit. Grapes from warmer and drier Rioja Baja produce wines that are deeper and richer with higher alcohol levels, which can add great body and richness to a blend. The Spanish take their oak aging requirements very seriously, especially in Rioja. Fresh and fruity Riojas labeled, Joven, (meaning young) see minimal aging before release, but more serious Rioja wines undergo many years in oak. Crianza and Reserva styles are aged 6 months to 1 year in oak. Gran Reserva wines are aged at least 2 years in oak and an additional 3 years in bottle but the aging process in bottle period is often significantly more.
