kaito (??) lived in kiyoteru’s house before kiyoteru (27) moved in, and died by falling down the stairs. he gets nervous now whenever kiyoteru uses them

gakupo (??) was a lone swordsman who died in a fight on what would become the school grounds.

kiyoteru has worked at the school for nine years, kaai yuki is his favourite student so far

everyone has a ghost they’re “in tune” with, meaning that they can see that ghost- very rare for people to be in tune with two, cases of more than two are almost non-existant

ghosts can also choose not to show themseves

the school is very small, it’s like the one in higurashi where it’s such a small town that there’s only a few classes and the grades tend to mix a lot

other teachers are meiko (38) and haku (22)

haku always comes in hungover, she’s likely only allowed to stay because there isn’t anyone else in the town who can teach and she’s nice enough, the kids like her

meiko knew kaito when he was alive- they were childhood friends and kaito supposedly died right after they graduated from college together

kiyoteru doesn’t tell meiko that he’s in tune with kaito because he’s pretty certain she would straight up kill him

she could body him literally

yuuma (27) is kiyoteru’s human friend who works at a cafe, and makes music under the name “VY2” in his off-time. yuuma is also crushing on kiyoteru hardcore and kiyoteru is completely oblivious

yuuma is a medium who can see ANY ghost, but he doesn't talk about it because he's worried people will think he's a freak (they will.) this does mean that he and kiyoteru can talk about these things when yuuma can't talk about them with anyone else

mizki (27) is yuuma’s twin sister- she is NOT a medium but knows yuuma is one bc it's a bloodline thing

gakupo has like. eternal beef with mediums forever he hates them all literally. will not say why but every single medium is evil to him

kiyoteru teaches younger kids, meiko teaches older kids, and haku teaches kids who either 1: need different learning conditions, 2: have japanese as a second language, or 3: missed the sign-up date for classes

kaai yuki (9) is being haunted by nekomura iroha (??), though she treats iroha like an imaginary friend

len (14) is being haunted by sukone tei (15ish) and it’s actively ruining his life

luka (18) is being haunted by lily (17ish) who died quite recently- she and luka were dating beforehand (they might still be dating, other ghosts don’t ask)

generally, if ghosts haunt a location, they can only go so far before they start disappearing (ie. gakupo and kaito) but ghosts can also haunt objects and people (lily haunts luka herself, tei haunts len himself, iroha haunts yuki’s bracelet [a family heirloom])

in that case, they need to stay within a certain distance of the object/person at all times, or they’ll start disappearing

all ghosts can see each other, and while it’s possible for someone to be in tune with more than one ghost, they’ll never gain the ability to see a ghost they aren’t naturally in tune with- ie. kiyoteru will never see iroha or lily

luka actually got lucky that she was in tune with lily- there’s no certain chance that just cause you love someone, you’ll end up in tune with them (ie. meiko not being able to see kaito despite them being very very close)

ghosts don’t pick what they haunt but it generally ends up being something that was important to them in life, they know what they haunt though none are sure how they figured it out, they just sort of Knew

ghosts generally have a steady undercurrent of one emotion (ie. kaito is always a little sad, gakupo is always a little frustrated) but they can express other emotions on top of that. the emotion they carry generally relates to how they felt when they died

haku is being haunted by neru (19ish?) and literally none of the ghosts know why because neru will NOT say whether she’s haunting haku herself or haunting something haku owns- haku never talks about being haunted

ghosts can’t eat human food, nor do they need to. they also don’t need to sleep but some choose to anyway

despite not needing to eat, kaito will usually ask kiyoteru to make extra dinner for him (which kiyoteru always does- nothing wrong with having leftovers)

most ghosts are peaceful, but some are destructive and can cause more visual/tangible disturbances (tei being a prime example)

gakupo CAN be destructive, but he’s been dead long enough that he just usually isn’t anymore- eternally bitter

kiyoteru tries to avoid talking about being haunted cause he doesn’t think anyone will believe him, especially since he’s in tune with two instead of one

big al (29) is yuuma’s friend, they do music together frequently

there are a lot of other characters involved they just generally are not as important to the story
