Blog #7  Women Becoming Self Sufficient
Tumblr media
All Across Africa (AAA) is an organization that produces income for women to send their children to school and provides the ability for them to support their families.  This organization is a member of Fair Trade Federation.  These women have gone from poverty and depending on hand outs to survive to finding a trade and feeling empowered to support themselves and their children. The organization went to rural areas to find communities where jobs were very scarce to train them to have a trade in making baskets, vases, trivets, and jewelry.
The impact of the organization has been remarkable with 94% of the artisans purchasing livestock and land as an investment after working with AAA. According to their website 96% of their children have attended primary school and 88% of the artisans have savings accounts.  KAZI, an AAA brand is determined to restore dignity and self-sufficiency to Africa and uses its profits to expand artisan development and training.  They also have teams that will train the artisans in finance, business management, and leadership.
Each item purchased has a profiled weavers tag attached that tells about the person that wove each item.  All of the artisans have different stories.  Some of them were single mothers that began weaving to support their families. Another woman was empowered and grateful that AAA provided every woman a chance to succeed. Others became leaders in their communities because of the opportunities AAA had given them.  Another women credits AAA for giving her the strength to be an independent woman and for surrounding her with amazing women in the cooperative. These are just a few of the many stories that come with every item you receive when you purchase one of the items these women weave.
