it’s so fucking wild how OFTEN I see stuff subtly (or even unsubtly!) positing that femininity is not well represented in media nowadays. i feel like that’s been A Take for most of my life but it’s wild how many self-proclaimed progressives are saying shit like that in the last two years? do you have brains. have you ever watched literally any mainstream piece of media in your life.

and all of this ALWAYS seems to culminate in positing butches as the enemy of all things feminine or whatever, doesn’t it? it’s crazy how often I’ve seen that recently too. there’s a prevailing myth that butches are overrepresented particularly in sapphic media and i’ve seen people EXPLICITLY hailing (insert feminine sapphic character) as more progressive than that Backwards Shit That’s Just Gotta Include Butches.

like i don’t mind liking over the top femininity in media! i genuinely don’t! but when people start to engage in fervent hype around Femininity In Fiction, it ALWAYS ends up with people being aggressive towards butches. it’s exhausting. it feels like both the right wing and the “inclusive” lgbt spaces lately have been increasingly hostile to butch existence and nobody ever gives a shit.
