It’s not unusual for Claire to remain awake in times like these. If you need to sleep more, you can.”

( On principle, Claire almost lacks respect for others in the profession, because there’s no respect at all in killing. But it’s more complicated in times like these, when the killing isn’t a factor at all. Good or bad, he thinks, people are people. If he can’t find times like this to appreciate the needs of even people like himself and Konstantin, then he’s got no right to call the world his. )

He smiles, the sort of devil-may-care smile that’s always made people dislike him so much. “After all, there’s no way anything’ll happen. I don’t want it to.”
