the hilarious thing about my mom is that she’s almost never disappointed in me. she’s not perfect, but she’s mostly always been more concerned with my happiness instead of my achievements. 

so imagine my surprise when i tell her i have not, in fact, ever watched the classic korean drama the coffee prince, and she makes the most disappointed, shocked sound, and goes, “YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE COFFEE PRINCE? THE CLASSIC OF KOREAN DRAMAS? MY OWN DAUGHTER?”

anyways, my homework is now to watch the coffee prince in the span of two weeks.

HOW??' #'MY OWN DAUGHTER???' #she was like 'YOUR AHJUSSHI LEE SUN KYUN FROM MY MISTER IS IN IT' #me: oh yeah and gong yoo #my mom: hush yeah i know about gong yoo but LEE SUN KYUN #and that's how i learned my mother developed a crush on lee sun kyun #because of coffee prince #she has a thing for the smart-looking guys i think #she also was like 'oh lee sun kyun .. . . . he always looks like he has a grey cloud over his face' #anyways! she's very insulted that i've never watched coffee prince #and i'm just like 'UMMA YOU MADE ME WATCH BOYS OVER FLOWERS' #and she goes 'yeah i don't know why i thought you would like that' #you think i'm kidding but when i was 8-10 years old #my mom would just. take her laptop. #sit me down in front of it #and go 'watch this kdrama' #and like a good little girl i would #and she'd be so disappointed whenever she'd find me watching american tv shows later #she'd be like 'aww :( are they more fun?' #and my clueless ass would be like 'sometimes! not all the time tho' #fast forward to literally. 10+ years later. #outside of succession i cannot remember the last time i actually watched a non-korean show
