#I’m tired of ‘let people enjoy things’ it looks bad and how do you find anything #I feel myself entering my grumpy old bitch time of life but seriously the thought #of putting my red Agatha Christie book on the other end of my shelf from my blue Agatha Christie book makes my skin crawl #and for what?? it doesn’t even look good #bookshelves painstakingly put into rainbow order and then covered with fairy lights and funko pops? like do you read those books or what #I don’t want to get too deep here but there’s a connection between having ‘pretty’ bookshelves and reading books for ‘the vibes’ #or whatever the fuck booktok’s always on about #I cannot tell you how many videos I’ve seen hyping up books by just saying ‘this one has a dark academia aesthetic with enemies to lovers’ #and everyone in the comments goes ‘Omg adding to my tbr!!!’ uhhh and what is the book about? pls and thenk you? #I once saw a tiktok that said ‘I want to live in these movies/novels so bad’ #and one of them was Anna Karenina (w/ pics from the Kiera Knightley movie) #and I commented why tf would you want to live in Anna Karenina do you know what happens in that book #and the person responded ‘ummm obviously I was just talking about the aesthetic 🙄’ #the aesthetic of the inability to attain happiness within the confines of Imperial Russian society and marital infedelity?? #or did you just like the pretty dresses?? what is the draw here
