I start to drift off, finally getting some sleep
And then
I have one singular thought:
“Charlie and Quackities characters are always doomed to fall, and when one goes the other is close behind”
My eyes shoot open
I am once again awake, tortured by the knowledge I hold.

VERY out of nowhere type of thought™️ but sometimes I'll just think of "Cobalt needs a pep talk" scenes and will just think up what a character would say to Cobalt if they were giving him advice
Even though it's meant to be a part of Cobalt's recovery arc, it's given me some insight over what type of person some characters are
Even though Ruby's the one who brought "The Paladins" together, she's honestly the most emotionally close to Cobalt. She'd really know how to cheer him up, because they've bonded so much that Ruby could really read him well.
Jacinthe and Cobalt are both the same yet opposite. Jay keeps all their emotions within them, but Cobalt is very obviously an emotional person. Because Jay's not used to emotions, I feel like they'd repeat inspirational quotes they've used to cope with themselves, too. Even though I just sort of laugh at "Lmao Jay quotes The Scarlet Letter", I used to cope with quotes from any place, really. From Welcome to the Black Parade's "Do or die, you'll never make me, because the world will never take my heart" to The Scarlet Letter's "There is happiness yet to be enjoyed!" or even Mask's "I've been caring so much for so long; it's real". Jay really wouldn't know how to comfort Cobalt like Ruby can, because they're really closed off and can barely handle their own emotions. I think eventually, them and Cobalt would bond over their similar situations; Jay's an aspiring tournament fighter who doesn’t know what to do next, while Cobalt's a washed-up tournament fighter who doesn't have a backup plan and panics from it. It'd probably be more like "Jay vents to Cobalt and accidentally makes him feel like he's not alone for once", but it's interesting to think of what Jay's thought process would be
This is a liiiittle cheat-y since Alizarin is
1.) My newest OC
2.) Not even from DOTS
3.) ...Also inspired by other OCs
4.) Is a blatant side character
But when I pitched Alizarin (or Jack) to myself, I imagined him as a quote I typically envisioned for Ventus (VENTUS IS MY OC. HE'S FROM AUAG.)
"Scars are a sign you've survived hell, love."
I don't know how spoilery it is to talk about Alizarin, but seeing someone go through the same pain that Cobalt has gone through but /being proud of it and able to adapt and also admit it's tough to do/ would really make Cobalt realize he's not alone in his struggles
Ig it's just personal fanservice since Alizarin acts a lot like Ventus (since J:MON Jack has his own "doesn’t know how to cope and recover" arc), but it'd be sweet to imagine if Alizarin is the one who [SPOILERS] somewhat helps Cobalt come out of his shell a little
I also want to say that Blaze also doesn’t know how to comfort Cobalt as well as Ruby can; they've never been really close and it probably doesn't help that they're literal complementary colors. But I think Blaze being the Paladin of Optimism could really rub off on Cobalt; she really tries to look at the positive side of things and would probably help remind Cobalt of the good times while also giving a healthy dose of distracting him from his issues
Either this ramble shows how much of a literature nerd I am
Or
None of my characters pass the Bechdel test,
