PENACONY AND HOW THEY TACKLE NIHILITY. ngl i was gonna make my own post about it so i will simply gush about it here. i fucking LOVE the ending of 2.1 because of how acheron (and kinda aventurine) follow the path of nihility. before this, ix and the nihility path were of the stereotypical 'i should die because nothing matters.' okay, fair that's how nihilism is portrayed by most media.
but oh my god the ending?? when aventurine asks why live when death is always at the end?? acheron's answer, to me, is the true meaning of nihility. the idea that death is at the end but are not ready to die yet, we are not ready to end. fighting our fate is meaningless but that should allow us to break free from the shackles of fear and simply live our lives.
but before the end, there are many things that humans can do while on their journey. and because of this, the "end" will reveal a completely different meaning.
we are always moving towards the future and it is up to us to decide what we do on our journey to the end. i find stories like these so incredibly beautiful. they are about hope, about finding light in the darkness. the cherry on top is aventurine realizing this with the player and eventually choosing to live and continue his journey until the end when he can finally meet his family.
this is really the part that resonated with me the most about hsr. while i love the lore and the aeons and the different planets, i think the greatest thing a piece of media can do is carry a message. i think that's why belobog is loved by many because it also carries a strong message of fighting oppression and the status quo. for me, that moment was the story of aventurine in penacony.
