weird wizard racism aside, ismelda in hogwarts mystery is actually Extremely Good because she's a perfect portrayal of a neurodivergent 14yo who leans really hard into being an edgy ~weird kid~ because it's just so much easier to deal with people when you know what they expect you to be, & sure it's still devastatingly lonely to push people away by choice, but at least you can convince yourself you want it this way, instead of trying to make friends & getting rejected for it

#merula hits some similar notes but ismelda for sure #I hope I get to befriend her eventually #the weird wizard racism doesn't really count against her because she's 13 & has a bad family environment #& also because like most of the world building of hp #it starts falling apart when you think about it for 2 minutes or from a non-english perspective #there are canonically only 28 'true' pureblood families in wizard england as of 1930 #a number which can only continue to decrease #so either slytherin should only be a fraction of the size of other houses #or the weird racism that gets written into most slytherin characters isn't even loosely justified by canon #it's obv analogous to the declining english peerage but like. #in a world where the peerage has also managed to convince normal people to give a shit #& it just doesn't make any sense #anyway love you ismelda keep saying you're going to eat magical creatures' food
