am i really writing out my thoughts and reactions to Arin’s s2 premiere set almost a week after the fact? ...y...es......
episode 1
lots of worldbuilding in this episode. it makes sense that various schools of thought would arise regarding the connection between worlds, and explains why the number 1 priority for Guardians is to conceal their identities from outsiders. that said... a society of evil writers? it’s like that meme, which philosopher should you fist-fight? only instead of philosophers it’s writers.
so The Brothers Grimm are a secret society of time-manipulating immortals—seems like LS is obsessed with the concept. secret societies was the subject of one of the books on Arin’s shelf that were mentioned in Jo’s special. do the others foreshadow what we can expect in Arin’s route? will beekeeping, tarot, quantum mechanics, and/or number stations factor into this storyline at some point?? probably not, but oh no now i want to see it
i really liked the line “writing and sharing stories has always been its own kind of magic”, because it’s true. i’ve said before that Darla and Arin, as a theater buff and librarian respectively, are characters who’d be great for exploring the importance and meaning of stories, so i’m glad we seem to be headed in that direction.
i’m really hoping that, since we’ll obviously be seeing how terrible TBG are, we’ll also explore the other side: how writers and stories have the capability to heal and transform lives. books not as weapons, but as a way to store something beautiful and take it home with you to share and connect with people. (if not for stories, none of us in this fandom would be here.) storytelling is a most human thing after all, and like most things, it is a tool that can hurt or help depending on how you use it, and choice is paramount.
...
anyway, long digression aside: i’m guessing the “old friend” who the note is from is James? after all, the rest of the triad is out of commission. or it’s a new character we haven’t met yet. hmm.
“the Guardian appears weak” :((( god, it kills me every time Arin feels like they’re failing as a Guardian (apprentice). the tree rot isn’t even something they can help (yet). baby.
and i admit, i was wrong: FMC is actually not a creepy-crawlie squisher. good on her.
does anyone else find it a little unsettling that Arin has probably read every one of the fairytale friends' books and knows their deepest, most intimate secrets? i don't know how to feel about it
Tumblr media
i really like this scene. the coziness and physicality of it. also everything from FMC falling asleep to jolting awake into Arin's lap and putting her foot in her mouth. very nice, girly. very smooth.
still loving how FMC remembers the moon whenever she needs to calm down. i like to think that those moments, those long walks on the beach, were their time to decompress from all the magic shenanigans. because as much as they both love magic and the other realm, they’re still of this world, and they still feel the pressure to do what they needed to do as part of the triad. but on those nights, they could simply be together, not as the Pathfinder and the Guardian, but as just FMC and just Arin. no titles, no roles, no responsibilities. just the beauty of the world around them and their best friend.
