On a sunny day in Münster, the Christopher Street Day Pride parade began. Amidst the melodies and festivities, a young man named Malte, embracing his identity as a trans man, was partying with friends.
As fate would have it, a fatal moment unfolded when Malte overheard the distressing echoes of homophobic slurs directed towards a lesbian couple. Driven by an unwavering commitment to justice, he courageously stepped forward to defend and protect them. The assailant possessed formidable skills as a former boxer, unleashing a relentless torrent of violence that left Malte battered and unconscious.
Urgently sent away to undergo a series of operations, the severity of his injuries plunged Malte into a coma, a cruel consequence of a devastating brain hemorrhage. Despite the tireless efforts of the medical staff, his life was over. Malte’s glasses were left behind on a cafe table and never picked up.
In the wake of this heart-rending loss, the collective spirit of 6,500 souls converged upon the streets of Münster, harmonizing in mournful yet defiant unity. Their voices intertwined in cathartic song, soaring through the city's cobblestoned alleys, fighting for safe havens of acceptance and relentlessly demanding justice. United through Malte's beloved melodies, they embarked upon a quest to transform grief into a catalyst for societal change.
Malte died 25 years old.
