hello! this is your excuse to ramble/talk about something your really into = )
HI GHOSTIE imnt ?//? i have like myabe 2 personality traits and theyre all dsmp and mcu rn so like idek what to fr sayy III WATCHED a really good video essay on the homecoming trilogy recently and like im not a comic book dude i find graphic novels hard to read / connect with but itsss rlly good nonetheless. it felt validating <3 like this peter parkers journey is very much a story in 3 parts? ive seen a lot of people say uncle ben doesnt exist in the mcu but i disagree bc the peter we see introduced in ca:cw already grasps the fundamentals of uncle ben's traditional message. "if you have the powers to stop people from doing bad things and you dont, thats on you" (or something i havent watched it in forever). its literally just rephrased. the homecoming trilogy just throws peter in situations that destabilize him to genuinely test him on those values and see if he sticks to them. its a dissection of what this message means to this peter.
homecoming directly challenges him on it.. like "if you're nothing without that suit, you shouldn't have it" is a clear lesson of responsibility when it comes to having power. quentin beck's betrayal in far from home teaches peter how not to use power when having responsibility—he's learned his lesson from hoco, he wants to stay low to the ground, but he fucks up big time trying to chase that, not understanding that responsibility and levelheadedness doesnt mean passivity. and nwh just kinda kicks him to the ground over it? n it pulls him by the ear and kinda forces him to Get It. like mcu's peter has always been a Kid fundamentally (hes 14 when he gets bit so LOL) n all of his movies w screentime are a process of maturation for him. like watch hoco -> iw/eg -> ffh -> nwh, he grows up big time.
i think mcu peter was never absent of the famous "great power great responsibility" stuff, it just took longer for it to become so blatant that the quote itself shows up, which like.. works? and imo it wouldve worked if the quote Never showed up at all? in the setting the homecoming trilogy takes place in its better than the alternative i think. all the other spidey live action material has peter as the sole NY hero but the avengers were already doing shit locally far before that spider bit him so a more classic story wouldn't have worked much anyways? the people saying aunt may was this peters uncle ben are kinda missing the point imo. the entire trilogy is an origin story, not just nwh. gotta look beyond the Big 4 Words guys (guys please)
N E ways yeah this video essay is good and it made me think
also like on another note tfatws is pretty good i just think its rlly obvious they a) had to powerscale bucky who beat steves ass in ca:tws and ca:cw and now hes kinda getting smeared by teenagers and johnathan over here which is a bit underwhelming, n b) are trying really hard to get me to sympathize w karli morgenthau and like i get her motives and even agree (n also am a bit tired of the stereotypical "violence is nawt the answer guys :(" mcu posturing) but i just do not care that much about her as a character. however zemo n his dynamic w sambucky is very very very fun and the show was enjoyable overall so i dont mind those aspects enough to whinge over them.
