I’m breaking up the ones people sent me into groups ghdklfjd...this is part 1 of 2 for the ones King sent me good god.

Under a cut bc this is lengthy

hc + healing

Shadow, being originally intended to be a cure to help with not only Maria’s NIDS but other people with other chronic/fatal/etc. illnesses, was supposed to learn how to control the output of Chaos Energy to help heal people. This sort of training requires a high amount of concentration and finesse and, traditionally, was only something the ancient echidna tribes could achieve...and even then, generally only with the M.E. in close proximity. Shadow never got to this point. The raid happened.

Shadow still tries to learn how to control this power. For balancing purposes he’s never gonna be that good at it but he’s trying and you’ll see some marginal improvement. It’s how he got close to Tikal.

memories

Shadow has regained a good portion of his memories but a lot of them feel...faded for him now. He still forgets things and still has holes that are never gonna be refilled entirely. He’s (mostly) come to terms with it by now. On occasion, Shadow continues to forget things that he SHOULD remember; details like Maria’s face, the ARK 50 years ago, and his fight with Finalhazard seem to be details that are the most fuzzy for him.

music

Shadow enjoys music a lot but is quite behind on it and doesn’t really actively seek it out. He’s not particularly picky but enjoys music with an experimental rock / industrial / dark-synthwave bend (Eurythmics, Muse, Julien-K, Radiohead). I could see him being into some grunge like Soundgarden. But he doesn’t really seek it out. Shadow could also be really good at an instrument if he felt inclined to pick it up; he’s good at watching and learning...but he doesn’t bother.

weird quirks and habits

Shadow has relatively good control over his body language and is especially good at noticing the nuance in other people’s body language. Honestly tho? Him constantly crossing his arms is kind of a weird quirk haha. It’s also a self-defense mechanism. People do that when they feel uncomfortable...and let’s be real Shadow is uncomfortable 99% of the time.

Other weird quirks and habits: Like Sonic, Shadow can tap his foot when impatient. His ears flick...a lot, despite his stoicism. Sometimes he tugs at tufts of his chest fur when REALLY uncomfortable.

fashion

Kind of stereotypical but Shadow enjoys more alternative fashion styles like leather jackets and ripped jeans. He doesn’t tend to dress differently all that often, however. He DOES own some different pair of shoes, but doesn’t really wear them that often because he has the jet boots and frankly he likes them too much...he likes that semi-hovering capability they give him. Feels good on the joints. When Shadow does opt to wear clothing, it’s fair to see him in either a leather jacket or an oversized zip-up hoodie with a logo on it. He also owns a few pair of shades that he flaunts more often (think Sonic Riders).

dr. eggman

Most people that write with me probably noticed that my Shadow has never referred to Eggman as, well, Eggman. Shadow calls him Robotnik or the Doctor. Shadow’s relationship with him is….complicated. On one hand he absolutely despises him and since my Gerald never had the redemption he’s given in ShTH on account of that not being a thing for my Shadow, Shadow is growing increasingly distrustful of the entire Robotnik line (sans Maria). On the other hand he feels almost indebted to him for waking him up and there’s a part of Shadow that misses that familial connection he had with the Robotniks from 50 years ago.

Shadow thinks Eggman is completely and utterly not worth saving, and while my Shadow generally operates under the pretense of not killing people and instead putting them out of commission, I think he’d break that rule for Eggman.

I think back to SA2 and Shadow was also clearly acting condescending towards Eggman that entire time so I keep some of that in my portrayal as well.
