help me afford to correct the spelling of my legal name?
this isnt nearly as urgent as many posts on here so please please ignore this if you dont have much money yourself, but my name was misspelled when i was born and i want to correct it.
My name is Réka (pronounced ray-kuh), but when whoever at the hospital does these things entered my name they ignored the accent (which my mom definitely wrote) so my legal name is Reka (pronounced reh-kuh according to Hungarian rules, but ree-kuh is also a common one I get.) I know it seems like a small thing, but my name is incredibly important to me as I've never been able to learn Hungarian so my name is my biggest connection to that half of my heritage - and é and e are different letters in Hungarian so Reka is NOT my goddamn name. Plus, people almost always pronounce it CORRECTLY the first time when they see it with the accent but I can count the number of times theyve said it right the first time after only seeing my legal name on one hand, and im so. fucking. tired. of having to correct every goddamn person who sees my name before they hear it.
it costs $248 to change my name, not including the fees to put the Intent To Change Name forms in the newspaper which I haven't found out yet. I'm very lucky to have access to employment where I can set my own hours, but school takes so much of my spoons that I can almost never work so any help is appreciated.
Again this isn't super urgent - given enough time I can raise the money on my own - but god, I want to change my name so bad and the process takes like 8 weeks at least even after it gets started so if you can help at all, I would love it so much. I know it'll make things inconvenient as many systems arent set up for accents, but its my *name* and it's incredibly important to me. Please message me for details because iirc my PayPal has my full name so I don't want to post it publicly. Thank you, reblogs are appreciated as well
