Day 17: In your mind, what is Hotaru’s role in Crystal Tokyo (if she has any)?

Hotaru’s role is to live her best life and not become swept up in any evil entities’ schemes to destroy the galaxy. And also to become a nurse or a lamp reviewer on YouTube.

She probably retains her role as a Sailor Guardian, but because my mishmash smorshborg headcanon world of Sailor Moon includes the Saturn Fukkatsu musical as part of its timeline, I think at times the other Guardians are a bit hesitant about letting her get too involved in that sort of thing. It’s not that she can’t handle herself, it’s more that she’s already died like twice, and one of those times, she was captured and tortured to create nightmares, and none of them really wants her to have to go through anything like that again even if it’s only a very slim chance that anything exactly like that will happen.

On some level, she might retain her role as a kill-switch in case Crystal Tokyo somehow becomes too corrupt to save, but this is only as a last resort and certainly not her main role.

Which is to live her best life, potentially become a nurse, and review lamps on YouTube.
