I was tagged by the wonderful @bloodlnthemoonlight to share part of a WIP fic, and since I have...many...I thought I’d throw a curveball and pick something from one of my most obscure niche pairings, which is Lin Beifong/Kya from The Legend of Korra :D

“So what did Bumi say?”

“He doesn’t know,” said Kya wearily.

“Really? You didn’t tell him?”

“Tenzin, we’re not twelve years old anymore, it’s not like we constantly trade secrets behind your back. Much. Anyway, you know he’s probably gonna be insufferable and claim he saw it coming all along.”

“So only I know?”

“You and Korra and Ikki. I’d guess Asami. Oh, and the rest of your family now, after that little scene, so probably the entire of air temple island by tomorrow. So enjoy that sense of superiority while you can.” Kya yawned widely. “You know, I really didn’t think everyone would be that interested.”

“And here I thought you waterbenders were supposed to be intuitive,” smiled Tenzin. “I’m sure Ikki is picking out your wedding dress already.”

“She did seem pretty thrilled about it,” admitted Kya. “Even Korra said she thought we make a cute couple. You should have seen Lin’s face; I don’t think she’s been called cute in her entire life.”

Tenzin let out a half stifled snort of laughter, and Kya grinned.

“For what it’s worth,” she said, “I’m glad you know. And I’m glad you had your total freak out while Lin wasn’t here, because she would have kicked your ass up and down the island.”

“I don’t doubt she would have tied,” said Tenzin. “And for what it’s worth, I’m glad that you’ve finally chosen someone who I can at least approve of in principle. Not—” he added hastily “—that it’s any of my business to approve or not, I’m sure. But Lin is a dear friend and an admirable woman, and if she can persuade you to stay here in Republic City then that can only be a good thing. I know we’d all like to see you more often.”

Kya shrugged. “Well I can’t promise that, but Lin can be very persuasive when she wants to be.”

Tenzin made a face, visible even in the lamplight. “I’d really rather not hear about that.”

“She does this thing with her—”

“Kya!”

They were both laughing now, and Kya impulsively threw one arm around her brother’s waist and gave him a friendly squeeze. “I missed you,” she said.

“I missed you too,” said Tenzin.

What colour lightsaber would you have? Either red or orange

What is your aesthetic? I’m not sure but here’s sort of what I would like: a comfortable apartment in an urban area with a park or trees nearby, raining. Inside the apartment is books everywhere and various posters and pieces of art. It’s eclectic and a little messy but still organized. There’s a fully stocked kitchen and fridge and the bedroom(s) are welcoming. There are dogs and signs that people live there and have fun. Money isn’t a concern. There’s an electric kettle always waiting for tea and a liquor cabinet and wet bar. Diet Coke is always in stock. The color scheme was a beige/grey but there’s colorful stuff everywhere found in shops and picked up on trips.

Hogwarts house? Slytherin.

Which one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse do you think you could totally be/want to be? Death, probably

Aliens or ghosts? Aliens.

If you could live in any past era, what one would it be? Oh, this is hard...either Regency England, the 1920s, or...hmm...I’ll stick with these for now

Would you ever swim with sharks? Maybe. I wouldn’t want there to be any multi-legged creatures though.

What’s your favourite word? Payment. Impeachment. Aspiration. Persistence.

Favourite band? I like all kinds.

Have you ever wondered, even for a moment, what another human tastes like? Yes.

Fire or ice? Ice.

Light or dark? Dark.

What’s your favourite romantic trope? I will always fall for the enemies to friends to lovers schtick. Also, when two intelligent people crack wit and snark and spar with each other and they get turned on by their own wit and by the response from the other party and they keep escalating and keep going at it until they are going at it. @thecrownedgoddess had an excellent description of this, apart from the technical term “belligerent sexual tension”. There’s also the “wow, my love interest is so amazing at (x)”.

What’s your favourite quote of all time? I have quite a few, but I think the one I relate to the most is from the 2009 BBC drama “Margaret”, about the end of Thatcher’s premiership, where she’s at one of her final audiences with the Queen talking about her recent travails and the Queen says “And so you fight on.” Thatcher responds “One must always fight, ma’am. What else is there?”

What’s your favourite holiday? Christmas and probably Thanksgiving.

How far would you go to keep the person or thing you love the most? As far as I would need to go.

Who or what are you most loyal to? The people I love, like friends, and the things I believe in.

What’s your favourite flower? Roses and/or lillies

Favourite amusement park ride? The centrifuge

Favourite board game? Clue, monopoly (especially when I’m just the bank), um...I don’t play that many board games

What’s your favourite meme? The spongebob mocking, and the man looking at another woman with his girlfriend next to him
