ill be honest as much as i love to criticise the use of fatphobia for comedy ill never be able to hold the fatphobic jokes in kung fu panda against it

like yea those movies are guilty of dipping into The Usual Tropes for a cheap laugh but not only is the character writing for the fat characters the strongest and most sympathetic ive Ever seen literally just the character designs of the pandas in the 3rd movie get me choked up sometimes. theyre all so appealing and clearly treated with the same care and attention as everyone else without copping out and making them Barely Fat. po is already a size that doesnt exist in film protags and hes still the thinnest person in that whole village and that meant a lot to me

#i havent seen the movies in ages but the design of the ribbon dancer is sooo . Just did a KFP marathon and heres some headcanons

Tigress will only allow Po to hug her. No one knows why. There has been money thrown around and bets made. Its been years and still no one has figured out the answer

(Its because her relationship with Po is much different (built more on vulnerability) than her relationship with the 5 (built more on shared experiences))

Po and Tigress are aspec

Monkey and Mantis are determined to find out the secret ingredient to Po's dad's Secret Ingredient Soup. Po told them but they thought he was lying. It drives them mad watching him cook so closely and still not seeing when he slips the secret ingredient in.

Crane had a small crush on Mei Ling

As much as i like to make jokes about Shifu being Tigress' dad the truth is i believe Shifu sees Tai Lung as his son and Tigress as a student he has watched grow up

Viper and Tigress do do "girly things" together

Viper and Mantis can have a hard time getting around in a world built for larger, four limbed people

Eating contests are a normal thing in the Jade Palace. Shifu occasionally participates

Everyone's relationships: Viper is closest to Tigress but hangs out the most with Crane, Crane has a deeper friendship with Mantis, Mantis is closest with Monkey, Monkey is besties with Po, Tigress is closest to Viper but has a more emotionally-deep relationship with Po, and Po is besties with Monkey but has a more emotionally-deep friendship with Viper

Viper can fall asleep anywhere. Everyone assume's that it would be Po but Po actually has trouble turning his brain off in unfamiliar places

Po occasionally sleep-eats. Sometimes they lock the kitchen up to stop Po and Monkey from midnight snacking but sleep-walking sleep-eating Po busts right through it

Tigress is nearly incapable of sleeping in. 20-30 years of waking up at dawn will do that to your body. Po is a chronic sleeping in-er. Doesnt matter how long he has morning practice he's always showing up at the last second or even several minutes late.

Crane and Tigress are light sleepers, everyone else is a deep sleeper

Po is the youngest. Before he came the youngest was either Tigress or Viper (either way those two are only a few years apart in age)

Crane is the oldest, with Mantis a year or two younger

I like to think either Viper's dad/parents come to visit or everyone/a couple went with Viper to her hometown to visit her parents. Either way their reunions are always very sweet

Sorta canon: Tigress always looks away when she sees someone receiving love or pride from their parents. It doesnt make her uncomfortable it makes her sad.

Mantis 100% wants to get married and have kids (sorta canon). So does Viper. Crane would like to but he's kinda accepted that its either not happening or not happening any time soon (he has reflected/meditated on this quite a lot). Monkey wouldnt mind being married or being a dad he just doesnt think a lot about it. Tigress doesnt want to get married but she thinks she might want kid(s) someday. Mr. Ping wants grandkids but Po's focused on becoming a kung fu master (which takes years) right now. Po's never really given much thought to his future.

I refuse to believe Tai Lung was not on Kai's list of masters to defeat. Tai Lung was the only person to master all 1,000 scrolls of kung fu and he was dead so you're telling me Kai never came upon him????? I think those chances are super slim. So yeah jade zombie Tai Lung was there but he was fighting over in the opposite direction of our main characters and thats why we never saw him

Saw someone's headcanon that both Po and Tigress have depression and i am adopting that
