somewhere in joe iconis' track-by-track breakdown of bmc, he mentions that recorders = christine BUT in listening to the obcr, it sounds more as if recorders = jeremy seeing christine, and not just christine herself (mainly because i can't hear any recorder during her part in upgrade w jake but it's audible in mts when he sings her name). they're there in ilpr, and agtikbi + the reprise, AND iirc it's also in the scene before the play when jeremy offers her a squip and she refuses. it's essentially all of the times when christine is present at her most christine-esque. the only other time it's NOT there is during the play and like we already know that part of jeremy realizing that christine is squipped/isnt herself during the play is the fact that she rhymes 'into' with 'you' despite having never rhymed the final lines before, but there's also.... no recorder.... hence, both lyrically and musically, it's lacking the thing that kind of. distinguishes christine in jeremy's mind.
