Everyone has a Name (Drabble)
A bit of backstory on Garry (my Eclipse OC).
I'm not sure yet what he's doing currently lore-wise. But I did think of him as a custom-made Eclipse. A made-to-order animatronic for a rich family's daughter with ties to Fazbear Co. or something like that.
Drabble below the cut
“Don't you have a name?”
The midnight gold animatronic looks down at the small child to whom he was assigned to watch over. Shifting their four arms to place regally behind their back, he lifts his chin up to give a standard greeting.
“Good morning, Young Miss. I am your E-Clipse, your personal friend and guardian. Is there something you need?”
The child frowns. Despite the lack of a heart, the eclipse animatronic felt himself deflate a little.
“No, silly! A name!” the child repeats again.
Mechanical brows furrowed in confusion but relaxed just as quickly.
“I'm not sure… I understand your request.” The animatronic admits dejectedly with a troubled frown, shoulders slumping slightly. “I am sorry.”
Waving away the apology, the little girl asks, “What's my name?”
Oh, that was an easy one! “You are Marcee K. Platt, the human I am assigned to look after.” the eclipse recites proudly, his posture improving.
“And what about this one?” said Marcee, holding up a little pink elephant plush toy.
“That would be Elizabeth the Elephant… Though I think you had named it Stephan three weeks ago…“ the Eclipse answered again, allowing himself to chuckle a little.
The child nods, “Everyone has a name! I know grandfather calls robots like you “Eclipse” all the time. If I called you what you are… Wouldn't that be like if every human walked around being named “human” because that's what they are? Seems silly doesn't it?”
The eclipse watched the little miss huff as she sets her elephant toy down on the tiny tea table. The child had a point, but it cannot be helped.
“You are very smart, Young Miss. I do think you have a point,“ the animatronic contemplates, feeling his non-existent heart melt when he sees the child smile expectantly. “But I'm afraid I did not come with a name, so there's not much to be done about that.”
And Marcee frowned again at that, oh what was an eclipse to do with a face like that.
“W..what if you gave me one then?” he offered, unable to say no to his beloved charge.
“Could I really give you one?” Marcee asked, eyes shining with hope.
“Of course! Shall we visit your grandfather's library to look for references?” the eclipse offered, already picking up the little child in his arms to begin the short trek to the family library.

A single volume of names and their meanings later, the child huffs and points among the names at the top of the list in alphabetical order.
“There's too many names on here but this one seems to fit!” she exclaims.
The eclipse, patiently waiting this whole time, looks over the little miss' shoulder.
“Alexander?” He reads the name aloud, his eyes scanning the meaning of the name next to it. “Defender… Warrior?” the animatronic laughs.
“What's so funny?” Marcee pouts, gently poking the animatronic in the hip with her elbow.
“You really think of me as a warrior, Little Miss?”
“I'm pretty sure you wouldn't let anything happen to me, grandfather said you were made to protect me.” Marcee huffs, crossing her arms.
This was correct. The eclipse nods. “This is true, I suppose I am your warrior.” he finally relents.
“Will you be calling me Alexander now, Little Miss?” he asks.
The child furrows her tiny brows, lips pursed in serious thought.
“I don't know… It fits but it sounds too serious. Like papa's colleges.”
“Colleagues.”
“Like papa's colleagues.” Marcee amends.
“Hmmm… I understand. Perhaps I can help? What other words would you describe me?”
“Mmm… Gentle!” was the child's quick reply. Surprised, the eclipse could only smile softly.
“I see… A moment, please,” he replies while his four eyes scan pages for names with meanings similar to gentle or gentleness. He started with names starting with "A", reading them aloud to the young miss until he reached "G"…
“Garreth!”
“Does that one strike a chord with you, Little Miss?”
“It sounds funny~”
A fond sigh escapes the animatronic's lips. “I suppose it sounds less intimidating than Alexander…”
“I like it. Garreth should be the first name, and then Alexander comes in second!” Marcee decrees with utmost conviction.
Garreth, as he is now called, chuckles. Amused.
“Is there a reason for this order?” he asks.
“You don't look very scary, and you're very patient! But if anyone tries to hurt me that's when your warrior-ness comes out! So, funny name first, serious name second.”
“I could be very scary if I have to be,” Garreth comments. Earning him a soft boop to the faceplate.
“I know, but you'd never scare me~! Because I know you'll only ever be scary to bad guys.” Marcee asserts, and Garreth smiles.
“Of course, you're correct once again, Little Miss. Thank you for giving me a name.”
