just saw someone really mad about the existence of dragons in vrandtic folklore as described by the fae gwiber's journal entry, something which I have already thought extensively about and can posit multiple explanations for, and pointed to it as an example of shadowbringers destroying continuity (????). anyways lmao

#a fucking. one-off line in the MOUNT JOURNAL. of all things. #mount journals which are like. very minor sources of lore but also written from in-universe perspectives #my personal theory is that the word meaning ''dragon'' was probably taken from something pre sundering #to mean anything rather large scaly and magical #and then adapted into the post sundering worlds and languages to indicate something in their folklore #namely something big scaly and magical #and when dragons came to the source from the dragonstar people living there were like oh! dragons! #of course their name on the source may have also been adapted from the dragonspeak word dra[n] #considering the influence of dragonspeak on eorzean #either way it's an insane thing to nitpick because the vrandtic word for dragon is probably not. dragon. #they just have a folkloric concept of something similar to dragons #which is then described to the player as a dragon because we fucking know what dragons are #and we don't need the mount journal to say ''a scaly winged creature that wields magics like a dragon of the source'' #especially because I think it's written from the perspective of someone from norvrandt #anyways. lmao #considering how many things irl the word dragon refers to. you'd think a fantasy game in a fantasy world gets a pass
