Onegin is an opera where nothing happens (Tchaikovsky's words. In fact, he insisted on it not being an opera, but lyrical scenes). And that is true - there is no action in the plot. It's all about feelings! And those feelings are intense as conveyed by the music. That's why I get hangups about Onegin being done 'wrong', because it's so easy to undermine what the music is telling by doing something else.
