prepping for a dnd game later this week and i noted to myself that i want to go over some possible house rules, namely where dropping to 0 does not knock you out, it just incapacitates you (mechanically this is exactly the same as you still can't take actions or reactions and you still roll death saves, it just allows for things like last words and lets players still be somewhat involved in combat after dropping to 0). however, at the end of last session, they drew the attention of a displacer beast and spotted 2 more, so i'm worried talking about death saves right before making them roll initiative is going to be interpreted as a threat on their PCs lives

#good idea generator #i cannot discuss further details because two of the players follow me on here #but like. i don't want them to be genuinely upset over the possibility of losing a PC #(i always think of when MY dm for a diff campaign messaged us all after a session #where many of us almost died to be like 'hey its rough out there but just fyi #if you really really don't want to lose your PC tell me and we will work in reviving them' #which i thought was very nice like ik some people are really in the weeds about Realism and Drama #in dnd games. and iirc i was like 'if reef dies he dies cowabunga' LMAO #but i liked having the option to mssg her and be like 'im not ready to give up this PC' if i wanted to #dnd is about having fun!!! and ofc you want the risk of death but sometimes that PCs story is not over) #this is also something i wanna talk abt with my players but too much death talk at the front of a session #is probably not the bestest idea ever. so ill save it for another day probs #kas plays dnd
