Honestly I think it depends on the author. Like I'd never ask say, Naoki Urasawa about anything sexual related to Johan, or Horikoshi about if Spinner has two cocks.

Now if I were on a room with Hirohiko Araki however, I would have no issues asking about if Stands have genitals or if Rohan has ever fucked solely for manga research purposes.
