ELECTRICIAN NEAR ME- What is an Electrician?
An electrician is a tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings, transmission lines, stationary machines, and related equipment. Electricians may be employed in the installation of new electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure. Electricians may also specialize in wiring ships, airplanes, and other mobile platforms, as well as data and cable lines.
When we refer to, “electricians,” we’re talking about tradespeople that install and repair wiring found in buildings and the various electrical systems found within them, including HVAC, security, lighting and computer network systems.
Tumblr media
Today’s electricians can be divided into four main categories:
Residential Electricians – These electricians work in home dwellings that can range from single-family houses to large apartment complexes.
Commercial Electricians – Work sites can include office buildings, retail outlets, schools, hospitals, and industrial facilities that do not involve high-voltage. These electricians install and repair electrical systems found in existing commercial buildings, new construction, and renovation projects.
Industrial Electricians – These electricians perform maintenance and installation of electrical components and machinery found in industrial settings. This may include working with high-voltage electricity at industrial manufacturing locations.
Low Voltage Electricians – As their name implies, these electricians are involved with low-voltage systems that primarily include voice, data, and video (VDV) networks and systems. Inside the industry you may hear these professionals referred to as VDV electricians or Voice-Data-Video electricians. Their work typically focuses on phone lines and fiber optic cable repair and installation in any setting where these materials are used.
You will find that some states combine some of these classifications. For example, some states may combine residential and low voltage into one category. Others may combine commercial and industrial electricians into one category.
In addition to classifying electricians by role, they can be further subdivided into three additional categories based on experience and training:
Apprentice – These electricians-in-training work under the supervision of an experienced professional for a number of years before they reach the journeyman level
Journeyman – This status is awarded once an electrician completes their apprenticeship and is judged by a state-approved authority as being competent in their trade
Master – Master electricians are defined as those with years of experience as journeymen who have demonstrated high-level competence through a state-approved exam
As you might have guessed, each state’s electrician licensing regulatory agency defines the parameters and scope of duties for each of these levels.
A Historical Perspective on Electricians
Even though man didn’t master electricity until the 1880s – the time that saw the first central power stations – we’ve certainly understood its brute force since prehistoric times. In fact, many of the most important gods of mythology were those with the power to wield electricity in the form of lightning. While there may have been some close calls along the road to discovering how to make electricity work for humankind, it wasn’t until around 1600 that significant steps towards understanding electromagnetism were made. It was then that the English astronomer William Gilbert made the first recorded in-depth study of static electricity. At that time he found the best way of creating static electricity was by rubbing a cloth against amber, introducing the word “electro” to the English language, which is Greek for amber.
Finally, during a thunderstorm in 1752, Benjamin Franklin did his key-on-the-kite experiment that we all learned about in grade school, and with several other important figures of the day, major inroads were made towards mastering electricity. By 1875, the first electricians installed the first municipal street lighting system in Los Angeles, followed by Paris three years later. Even then those electricians still had somewhat of a divine nature.
Also of interest to note, up until about 1884 there was vigorous competition between the widespread adoption of alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). Had it not been for the invention of the first transformer that year perhaps all of our houses today would be powered by direct current?
Fast-forward to the present and you find that most people take electricity for granted. However that doesn’t diminish the importance of electrician’s one iota.

Coronavirus Outbreak in India Latest Update
India very far from peak, says ICMR
Even as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 1,98,706  and the death count rose to 5,598, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that the country was "very far away" from the peak of the infection and was better positioned than most other countries.
However, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal, during a briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country, said it is wrong to just look at the total number of cases and state that India has the seventh-highest number of cases as the population of countries also should be taken into account.
About 14 most affected countries with a cumulative population almost equal to that of India have reported 55.2 times more COVID-19 deaths and 22.5 times more cases, he said.
Coronavirus Outbreak LATEST Updates: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a video address on Tuesday had told that he would be deferring the 'Unlock 1' reopening of the state from 3 June to 5 June in view of the Cyclone Nisarga, which is expected to make landfall in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
Even as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 1,98,706  and the death count rose to 5,598, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that the country was "very far away" from the peak of the infection and was better positioned than most other countries.
8,171 new cases, 204 deaths reported in 24 hours
In the 24 hours since 8 am on Monday, the country reported 8,171 cases, taking the number of confirmed cases to 1,98,706 while the toll climbed to 5,598 as 204 more deaths were recorded across the country, said the health ministry in its morning update.
As many as 95,526 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, and the number of active cases now stands at 97,581, according to the health ministry data.
Around 48.07 percent patients have recovered so far, a ministry official said.
Out of the 204 more deaths since Monday morning, 76 were in Maharashtra, 50 in Delhi, 25 in Gujarat and 11 in Tamil Nadu. Eight people each died of COVID-19 in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, followed by six in Telangana, and four each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
With 2,362 deaths, Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of fatalities out of the total 5,598 deaths, followed by 1,063 in Gujarat, 523 in Delhi, 358 in Madhya Pradesh and 335 in West Bengal.
There have been 217 coronavirus deaths so far in Uttar Pradesh, while 198 succumbed to the infection in Rajasthan, 184 in Tamil Nadu, 88 in Telangana and 64 in Andhra Pradesh.
The highest number of confirmed cases is 70,013 from Maharashtra, followed 23,495 in by Tamil Nadu, 20,834 in Delhi, and 17,200 in Gujarat. There are 8,980 cases of the viral infection in Rajasthan, 8,283 in Madhya Pradesh and 8,075 in Uttar Pradesh. The number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 5,772 in West Bengal, 3,926 in Bihar and 3,783 in Andhra Pradesh.
The ministry said 6,414 COVID-19 cases were being reassigned to states, adding that the figures were being reconciled with the ICMR.
With a total of 1,98,706 cases, India is now seventh among the worst-hit nations by the COVID-19 pandemic after the US, Brazil, Russia, the UK, Spain and Italy.
Country very far away from peak, says ICMR
However, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal, during a briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country, said it is wrong to just look at the total number of cases and state that India has the seventh-highest number of cases as the population of countries also should be taken into account.
About 14 most affected countries with a cumulative population almost equal to that of India have reported 55.2 times more COVID-19 deaths and 22.5 times more cases, he said.
"Our COVID-19 fatality rate is 2.82 percent as against 6.13 percent globally. Our COVID-19 fatality rate is amongst the lowest in the world," he said and attributed it to timely identification of cases and proper clinical management.
Presenting an age profile analysis of COVID-19 deaths, Agarwal said one in every two COVID-19 deaths in India has been of senior citizens who constitute 10 percent of the total population. This ten percent of India's population accounts for 50 percent of India's COVID-19 linked deaths, he said,  while 73 percent of COVID-19 deaths in the country are of people with comorbidities.
ICMR scientist Nivedita Gupta said that the country was far from approaching the peak of the infection.
"We are very far away from the peak. Our preventive measures to curtail the disease are very effective and we are better positioned in comparison with other countries. You will get to see the data in a week."
The medical research body is conducting a sero-survey to assess the extent of spread of COVID-19 and almost 34,000 people are being tested as a part of it, she said, adding that its results will be out in the public domain by the end of this week or early next week.
When asked about the prevalence of community transmission in the country, Gupta said that instead of focusing on the term "community transmission", it was important to understand the extent of spread of the contagion and where India stood in comparison with other countries.
Responding to a question on whether there is some amount of under-reporting of COVID-19 deaths with several states not testing bodies for the infection, Gupta said there was no under-reporting of COVID-19 deaths in India and states were doing causality assessment and attributing cause of death accordingly.
"None of us thinks that there is gross under-reporting of COVID-19 deaths. If you look at the figures, India has been very good with reduction in mortality, as compared with other nations," she said. "A patient who comes to hospital and dies can be COVID-19 positive or negative and there are lot of factors which are responsible for a death. It is not fair to attribute every death to COVID-19," Gupta said at a press conference.
In terms of the number of deaths getting reported in the country and also even in different mortuaries, Agarwal said "there was no abnormal increase in numbers rather they have gone down".
"Let us feel reassured that the country is in safe hands and continued efforts are being done in the direction in terms of management of COVID-19," he said at the briefing.
The health ministry also stressed on the importance of taking adequate precautions even as the country has begun to open up offices, shops and commercial activity under the 'Unlock' plan announced by the Centre.
"As we are in 'Unlock-1' situation, the challenge before us is how to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, be it in terms of travel or office functioning. We have to think in terms of a new normal on how to live with the virus by taking adequate precautions so as to protect ourselves from it," he said.
Many states have eased restrictions since Monday to revive the economy and achieve a semblance of normalcy, after a two-month-long coronavirus-induced lockdown. Domestic flights and trains have also begun to operate to a limited extent.
State-wise cases
Meanwhile, the number of cases and deaths has continued to rise in many states, especially among those coming from other states and abroad. A PTI tally based on the numbers reported by states and Union Territories till 10.05 pm put the total number of infections found in the country at 2,00,321 and deaths at 5,739. It also showed a higher count of recoveries at 99,613, leaving nearly 95,000 active cases across the country.
Gujarat on Tuesday reported 415 new COVID-19 cases and 29 deaths, taking the overall case count to 17,632 and fatalities to 1,092, the state Health department said. In Ahmedabad itself, 279 new cases and 24 deaths were recorded taking the total to 12,773 and toll to 888.
In neighbouring Maharashtra, the case count surged to 72,300 with  2,287 and 103 deaths recorded. With this, the death count in the state rose to 2,465. The number of active cases in the state stands at 38,493, said the state health department.
Karnataka recorded the biggest single-day spike of 388 COVID-19 cases, with returnees from neighbouring Maharashtra continuing to add to the state's case count, taking the total number of infections to 3,796, according to the state health department. With 367 out of 388 new cases being returnees from other states, mostly from neighboring Maharashtra (357), the Karnataka government said it was mulling over increasing institutional quarantine for those returning from the western state.
Kerala also recorded a spurt in cases, with 86 testing positive in a single day and pushing the state's total to 1,412. A 77-year-old Christian priest died at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, taking the toll in the state to 11.
Tamil Nadu reported more than 1,000 cases for the third straight day, pushing the infection count past the 24,000 mark. The toll has risen to 197 with 13 more deaths while the number of confirmed cases surged to 24,586.
In Telangana, twelve post-graduate students of a state-run medical college tested positive for COVID-19 while the fresh cases in Himachal Pradesh included a Delhi Police personnel, a SpiceJet passenger and a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) employee. The confirmed cases in the hilly state climbed to 346.
In Delhi, five police personnel from Anand Parbat area, taking the total number of those infected among the Delhi Police to over 500, reported ANI. Thirteen employees of Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal's office and six other government officials have also tested positive for COVID-19, sources told PTI. They said junior assistants, drivers, peons are among the 13 people working at the Lt Governor Secretariat who have tested positive for the virus, leading to fear among other employees.
Deeply concerned about health of officials of my secretariat who tested positive for COVID-19 Health of all officials is stable & is being closely monitored
All of these officials were working tirelessly in these difficult times shoulder to shoulder with other frontline workers

Ever since Scott Forstall took the stage at the iPhone launch event in 2011 to introduce Siri to the world, the rise of virtual assistants has been swift. With so many intelligent assistants out there, it is hard to decide which one to use on a day to day basis. While Microsoft’s Cortana ships on all Windows devices, it’s safe to say that Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google Assistant are the most prominent and popular virtual assistants out there right now. While all three of them offer much of the same basic functionality, each assistant has its own set of strengths, weaknesses, and quirks. We pit the three of them against each other to find out which one is the smartest virtual assistant.
While Siri is locked to Apple’s ecosystem, Google Assistant can be used on both Android and iOS devices. The experience is slightly watered down on iOS as the platform does not allow users to change the default assistant. Alexa can only be used on an Android smartphone as of now and the Alexa app in iOS is only used to connect to Echo devices. In some countries, Alexa can be used on an iOS device via the Amazon shopping application but that feature is not present in India.
youtube
We used Alexa on a Moto Z2 Force (Review) and to evaluate Siri we used an iPhone 7 Plus (Review). As Google Assistant supports both iOS and Android, we tried it out on both smartphones. Alexa’s voice sounds more natural than Google Assistant’s Indian accent, which comes across as a bit forced and robotic. Siri allows users to choose between American, Australian, and British accents, though an Indian accent is conspicuous by its absence.
The basic experience is very similar across all three virtual assistants, though all of them work best within their own ecosystem. Google Assistant plays well with Google applications, Google Home, and Chromecast. Similarly, you need a Fire TV stick and an Echo smart speaker to extract the most out of Alexa. Siri, thanks to Apple’s closed ecosystem can only be used on Apple devices like iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, and the HomePod smart speaker, the latter not officially available in India.
Simple everyday tasks All three assistants handle basic tasks like setting reminders and alarms, computing maths problems, and providing weather forecasts with relative ease. While Google Assistant and Siri can call and send text messages to anyone in your contact list, Alexa can only contact people who have signed up for Alexa calling/ messaging.
Siri can place calls as well as send text messages via WhatsApp. Google Assistant can send text messages and voice messages via WhatsApp but only when used on an Android smartphone. Alexa in comparison cannot integrate with WhatsApp in any way.
When it comes to changing device settings, Google Assistant and Siri are ahead of Alexa. On both iOS and Android, Google Assistant successfully turned on the flashlight but failed to switch on mobile data. Siri managed to do the exact opposite and Alexa in comparison stated “You don’t have any smart home devices to get started” in both cases.
Trivia questions We subjected all three assistants to a battery of questions such as ‘How far away is the moon’ and ‘Who is Steve Wozniak’. Given how Google Assistant has Google’s powerful search technology at its disposal, it was not surprising to see it answer the most questions accurately. No matter which platform we used it on, Assistant provided the most accurate and in-depth information. It also provided additional links as well as a source website for the information provided.
We were really impressed to see Google Assistant successfully answer niche questions like “What kind of fish is Dory in Finding Dory?” And “How often should I water my Chrysanthemums?”. Siri, in comparison, just kicked us to a Web search in both cases. Alexa simply stated she does not know the answer in the latter and decided to give us details about Pixar’s animated movie in the former.
When asked when is Ant Man and the Wasp, a movie hitting theatres on the 5th of July, releasing, Siri told us it was released on the 1st of January, 2018. Both Alexa and Google Assistant answered the question correctly. All three assistants are more than capable of answering queries related to Football and Cricket but only Google Assistant and Alexa can service fans of niche sports like Formula 1. When we asked Siri “Who won the Bahrain Grand Prix”, it simply stated “Sorry, I don’t have all the details about Bahrain Grand Prix”.
Complex tasks All three assistants are capable of suggesting restaurants based on cuisine as well as location. While all three were easily able to suggest good Chinese restaurants around our office, only Google Assistant managed to find places serving lasagna nearby. Google Assistant also offers to book a table at a nearby restaurant when you tell it that you’re’ hungry. It even gives an option to place an order via Swiggy and view directions via Google Maps.

Both Siri and Alexa utilise Zomato’s database to showcase a restaurant’s address, operational hours, and user reviews. All three assistants also allow you to call restaurants from within the search result.
Virtual Assistants can come in really handy in the kitchen when searching for recipes. When we asked all three assistants ‘How to make Ratatouille’, Google Assistant offered a few recipe videos as well as step-by-step directions for popular recipes. Siri just presented a Web search, and Alexa gave up and admitted it didn’t know how to do that.
When it comes to offering directions, Google Assistant gives solid time estimates and was able to direct us towards every landmark we threw at it. Siri in comparison is unable to provide directions in India and Alexa constantly gave us directions to Rohini West metro station instead of Hauz Khas metro station.
‘Skills’ allow third-party applications to add a ton of functionality to Alexa. Amazon has put in place a robust ecosystem of these skills, tying up with players across multiple categories like Uber, Ola, Cleartrip, GoIbibo, and UrbanClap. This allows Alexa to perform many tasks the other two assistants cannot, such as book flights, hotels, cabs, and even call electricians. Skills also allow you to plug in gaps in Alexa’s core functionality. For example, enabling the ‘Allrecipes’ skill allows Alexa to talk you through over 60,00 recipes, a feature Alexa lacks by default. Alexa can also read your Kindle books aloud, which is quite nifty.
Google’s Assistants functionality can also be extended via ‘Actions’. Tapping the icon at the upper-right corner of the Assistant home screen takes you to the ‘Explore’ page where you can peruse through all the actions on offer. Examples of actions include asking Assistant to ‘Play Riddle Room’, ‘Talk to IPL Quiz’, and ‘Ask Milkbasket to add bread’.
The ecosystem is pretty limited at the moment and the quality of actions on offer pales in comparison to Alexa’s skills. As of January 2018, Google Assistant has around 1,800 actions. Alexa in comparison boasts of 30,000 plus skills. These numbers pertain to the U.S and in India, the amount of skills and actions might be lower. At WWDC 2018, Apple announced that with iOS 12, developers will be able to extend Siri’s capabilities using Siri Shortcuts.
At the moment, Siri cannot look for movie showtimes in India, a feature supported by both Alexa and Google Assistant. All three assistants are also capable of playing music based on genre, mood and album/artist name. Each offering uses its default music service by default, but Google Assistant and Alexa can also integrate with other music streaming services like Gaana and Saavn. In iOS though, Assistant has to make do with Apple’s default music service due to platform restrictions.
Context awareness Google Assistant is far more conversational and context-aware than the other two. Asking Google Assistant “Who is their coach?” after asking who are the English Premier League champions yielded the name of Manchester City’s coach.
You can then take things up a notch and ask “How tall is he” or “Where is he from”, and Google Assistant understands that you’re referring to the same person and responds accordingly. Alexa in comparison stated the name of the coach successfully but struggled to answer any further questions. Siri failed after just one question, fetching the name of the head coach of University of Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team instead of Manchester City’s coach.
Verdict Google Assistant is undoubtedly the most well-rounded virtual assistant. It might have less flair than the other two (It cannot sing songs like Alexa, for example) but it is the most useful at the moment, especially in the India context. Not only does Google Assistant answer the most questions correctly, it is also more conversational and context-aware. With Alexa and Siri, it is very important to get the command just right in order to invoke the required response. Google Assistant in comparison, is very good at understanding natural language.
Alexa is the most customisable assistant of the bunch. Skills allow third-party applications to add a lot of functionality to Alexa. While Assistant offers similar feature expansion via actions, the quality and quantity of skills offered by Alexa is superior. That said, Alexa’s core capabilities need spit and polish at the moment and it cannot be triggered by voice when set as the default assistant, something Microsoft’s Cortana can do despite not being native to Google’s mobile platform.
Siri has definitely improved over the years but still lags behind Alexa and Google Assistant in terms of capabilities. In our testing, Siri struggled with restaurant suggestions, location-specific queries, and pop culture questions. It also failed to understand context. That said, Siri’s interface is easy to use and it does a great job with day to day tasks.

8,171 new cases, 204 deaths reported in 24 hours In the 24 hours since 8 am on Monday, the country reported 8,171 cases, taking the number of confirmed cases to 1,98,706 while the toll climbed to 5,598 as 204 more deaths were recorded across the country, said the health ministry in its morning update. Country very far away from peak, says ICMR However, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal, during a briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country, said it is wrong to just look at the total number of cases and state that India has the seventh-highest number of cases as the population of countries also should be taken into account. You will get to see the data in a week." The medical research body is conducting a sero-survey to assess the extent of spread of COVID-19 and almost 34,000 people are being tested as a part of it, she said, adding that its results will be out in the public domain by the end of this week or early next week. State-wise cases Meanwhile, the number of cases and deaths has continued to rise in many states, especially among those coming from other states and abroad. In neighbouring Maharashtra, the case count surged to 72,300 with  2,287 and 103 deaths recorded.
